Chapter 91: siblings

Grace’s pov

When I saw them I couldn’t believe my eyes.

I felt this huge sense of relief, I thought that Derek wouldn’t come after I told him to.

He asked me if I wanted him by my side through all of this and my answer was no.

and yet he is here, I am so happy that he didn’t listen to me and as for Harper I am happy he is as stubborn and resilient.

I thought that I would go through all of this alone and I dreaded the idea.

The idea of coming here and staying with his family filled me with this loneliness I couldn’t understand.

I felt this sadness fill me inside and it scared the shit out of me if I am being honest.

I looked at both of them smiled, I couldn’t even hide how happy I was to see them.

Derek gave him his usual smile followed by a wink while Harper just looked at me confused.

“you are not angry?” he blurted out and I just shrugged.

“why would I be angry?” I asked him and he looked at Derek.

“we are both here and obviously for you” he said, and I nodded.

“I know that, but why should that make me angry?” I asked him and he opened a closed his mouth like a fish under water.

He looked at Derek as if trying to find the answers to all the questions he has.

As for Derek he could see right through me, I guess its because he knows the full story.

I think that if Harper knew the entire truth then he wouldn’t have so many questions right now.

“welcome to our home Grace” my father who doesn’t know he is my father said.

I looked around and his entire family has now joined in with smiles on their faces.

“this is my wife Samantha, my son Jason and my two beautiful daughters Mira and Mary” he said introducing me to them.

Jason is about 13 to 14 years old from the way he looked and was busy looking at his phone.

But at the mention of his name, he looked up and gave me a small smile with a shy wave.

“our little brother is a little shy, I am Mary and I hope we get along very well” Mary said with a big smile.

“Mary talks a lot, and I am Mira” the other one said introducing themselves properly.

Mira seemed to be around 18 or 19 years while Mary is about 16 or 17 years old from the way they look.

What took me by surprise was how brightly they smiled at me.

I have been a loner all my life and have seen a lot of fake smile.

From all the babysitters I had, the private tutors who used to come to my house all this time.

Not to forget that I have lived with a lot of people in the past few months, and I know that feeling.

I know what it feels like when they give you a fake smile, it makes me feel uncomfortable.

It makes me put my guard up but looking at them I instantly relaxed even if I didn’t plan on it.

I planned on keeping my guard up, but nothing happened, and I just relaxed.

Its like when you think you aren’t tired, but a warm bed can make you fall asleep instantly.

One moment you are awake and the next thing you have drifted into this deep sleep, and you don’t even know how.

“come on in, I will show you your bedroom. Its next to mine and Mira’s” Mary said jumping to my side and taking my bags.

Derek winked at me as I walked away with my half siblings.

Jason also joined us as they took me to what will be my next room in the next few days.

“we tried decorating it but we didn’t know what style you would like… so we went for a little elegant” Mira explained as we were walking upstairs.

“ohhh Grace how do you do it? you will give me some tips right?” Mary asked holding my hand.

She did it so casually as if we were best friends who have known each other for years.

“do what?” I asked her and she stopped while Mira rolled her eyes.

“she is talking about how you got two of the most powerful eligible bachelors to fall in love with you” Mira said and stopped.

She looked at me and all that maturity act she was trying to do fell out of the window.

“come on tell us, I am 19 years old and still single. I would like to attract two hot guys as well” she said with a wink.

I looked at them and how playful and how they weirdly seemed to open up to me so quickly.

“fix your faces first” Jason said to them with a smile.

They all glared at him at the same time and he quickly ran to my side.

He used me as shield laughing as his sisters chased him and him using me a shield.

“I will destroy you” Mary said and Jason looked at me with the cutest smile in the world.

“you will protect me, right Grace?” he asked me and I nodded.

I nodded so fast like I couldn’t wait to say yes to what he just asked me.

why would I want to protect this little boy that I just met?

He is a stranger to me but oddly I want to protect him, not from his sisters but from any real danger.

After their little fight we went upstairs where they showed me my room and I just smiled looking at it.

its how I designed my apartment when I was going to college and it had a little bit of my mother’s style.

My mother liked rustic things, think rustic and a few beautiful flowers that don’t stand out that much.

That can blend in to the colour, this room and everything in it reminded me of her.

But as I saw this I didn’t feel that ping of pain I always felt when I thought about her.

I just smiled, when I looked around I found the girls already going through my clothes.

“omg I love this, can I have this? Your clothes are so cool and you look so cool. I mean you have that bad girl vibe” Mary said getting closer.

She then put away a strand of my hair and smiled.

“you look really nice with short hair, maybe I should cut mine to be shoulder length like yours” she said.

she then made me turn around and we both looked at the mirror and she smiled.

“if you take aside the hair and eye colour we could be mistaken as sisters” Mary said with a big smile.

She then went back to looking at my clothes which is good because she didn’t get to see my reaction.

We could be sisters huh?

I just met these kids so why?

Why do I feel the temptation to tell them that we are sisters?

I didn’t even have the idea of telling anyone when I came here.

I just wanted to learn all the skills and try to find out who my father truly is.

“girls stop bothering Grace” their mother said as she came in and her eyes landed on me.

there was no hatred in them, absolutely nothing but kindness and love.

I honestly didn’t think that such people still exist in our world,

I always thought it was all a façade.

I wonder if she will treat me the same way if she knew the truth??

Will she smile at her husband’s daughter with a another woman?

Did he ever even tell her about my mother?

Or did he just move on with life like nothing ever happened?

I just want those answers and after that I will be fine and can walk away.

I want to know if he knew that I existed and why he chose this life over us.

I want to know if he is happy with the choice he made?

Maybe deep down I want to watch him being happy so it can break me even more.

Its anger and hatred that make me inhumane isn’t?

I came here because I knew for a certain that being here would be bad for my returning humanity.

It will be a rude awakening to why I did what I did and these whole thing could stop.

I could go about my original plan instead of trying to find all the reasons to save my enemy.

I keep looking for reason to help him with everything and also to forgive him.

“please come downstairs for dinner” Samantha said to me, but I just shook my head.

“I am honestly really tired; all I want to do now is rest” I replied, and she nodded.

“I will ask them to bring you’re a fruit tray just in case you happen to feel hungry” she said, and I nodded.

“thank you” I replied, and the girls and Jason left my room waving bye.

I looked around the room that was clean a few minutes and now it was a mess.

The bed was full of all my clothes while Jason just saw all the couch pillows to the ground when he sat down.

Is this what having siblings mean?

A constantly dirty room with everything scattered around.

What did I just say?

Did I just say siblings?

Did I just regard those three total strangers as my siblings?

What is wrong with me?

this isn’t something that I would do so this is surprising to me.

I don’t open up to people so easily, I don’t accept people very easily.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t have enough practise to be able to do that.

I never had people knocking at my door wanting to be let in.

siblings huh.

How can one word fill me with so much fear?

Its just a word, I guess it is true that words have some kind of power.

That explains why they even scare me; the word siblings terrifies me.
