Chapter 172: Crumbling down
“What plans?” Beth asked eagerly,
“She wanted to get rid of us by burning us alive.”
Carina’s mother and sister gasped, “She’s evil!” Claudia cried.
“I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Harry, I owe him my life,” Carina said.
Again they all went silent,
“I have to go and thank Harry he’s done so much for us…”
“You don’t have to, I already thanked him. Nobody has to talk to him again.” Carina said cutting Beth mid-sentence. She was angry but she couldn’t explain what she was angry about but she was starting to get angry. Maybe she was mad at herself or maybe she was mad at Sara, she didn’t know. All she knew was that she was just angry.
“Should we leave you alone?” Claudia asked when she noticed a change in her mood.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. I just don’t know.” she replied and wiped her tears again.
Back at the police station, Nancy had been set free after being held for two days, she was told that Carina had been found and she had named another person as her kidnapper,
Nancy should have been relieved but now she was afraid that Carina would be informed about the fake page she created for her and Deon. Carina had
Confronted her about it yet she denied being the one behind it. She feared that Carina would press charges against her this time.
But she wanted to face Deon and fight him for betraying her the way he did, it was hurtful, to say the least, and she wasn’t going to forgive him till she got her lick back. She called Lola the day of her release and told her that she was planning on seeing her but Lola didn’t sound concerned for her.
“Am I speaking to Lola?” she asked when she noticed the lack of concern in Lola’s voice.
“Yes, you are.”
“Erm, you seem so… uninterested.”
“Uninterested? Well, I was hoping you would say, disappointed but yes I’m uninterested in talking to the likes of you.” Lola said spitefully.
“What? You sound so unprofessional, what's going on?” she asked.
“Nancy, I thought you and Carina were great friends?” Lola remarked.
“Yes? and?”
“So why did you create an account in her name and go around asking people for money? That’s so unlike you Nancy, I’m so disappointed. Did Carina ever give you permission to do that and don’t you lie and say yes because Deon told me that you created that page without his or Carina’s consent and you only did that to destroy Carina’s marriage.”
Nancy gasped as her eyes went glassy with tears, Deon was not only an idiot but a traitor too, this was painful, more painful than when he ignored her at the police station, she could have forgiven him for that but not this.
“You shouldn't listen to what Deon says…”
“So why were you picked up by the police?” Lola asked.
“It… it. Look, Lola, these are private matters.”
“No they are not, Carina’s sister plans to sue you and if things go left you could have a criminal record and you could lose your job because of that, nobody likes to work with snakes like you,” Lola replied.
“Are you firing me or something?” Nancy exclaimed.
“You would have to come over to the office and explain why we shouldn’t kick you out because we have every right to,” Lola replied.
Nancy was annoyed, she clicked the line dead, who did they think they were to fire her? It’s not like she had been taken to court and proven guilty or anything so Lola had no right to talk to her like that. And Deon, that godforsaken excuse of a man, he was responsible for all of this but this was not the end, she was going to teach him a big lesson.
Luckily, she still had her job at Nathan’s and Harry’s startup company. All she had to do was dedicate her time to them; she had a brighter future with them than this company anyway. All she had to do was get them a client. She didn’t even wait to get home before writing her resignation email and sending it to her company.
She would rather jump than be pushed so the resignation felt right to her, she got home and turned on her TV and the first thing she sees is that Carina had been found, there was a shot on the bruises and injuries she had sustained during the ordeal and the news also said that the suspect had been arrested.
Now Nancy was eager to know who the suspect was but she didn’t want to call Carina because of what she had done, she felt Claudia would have told her about it by now and Carina would never forgive her for that.
Also, she had mentioned Sara as a culprit and she was going to be in big trouble if it turned out that she wasn’t behind it.
So the next best person she could call was Nathan, he might know something.
After two rings he answered,
“Nancy?”
“Nathan!”
“You’ve been missing for days, do you have a client for us?” Nathan pretended he didn’t know what was going on.
“I promise to bring you a client as soon as possible, I just found out that Carina got abducted…”
“Yes, but she’s home now,”
“Who abducted her? Did they find the culprit?”
“It was Sara, you are familiar with who she is right?”
“Of course,” Nancy replied with a huge sigh of relief.
“I’m happy she’s back and safe,” she remarked. “Talk to you later…”
“Not so fast, so when were you going to tell me you went to prison for impersonating someone online?” Nathan asked as his voice got stern.
Nancy could feel a lump form in her throat and her heart rate increased,
“Erm, I wasn’t… I was just invited…”
“Stop lying, you are not even good at it, I just want to know why you thought I wouldn’t find out. Did you think you were that slick?” Nathan laughed.
“I can explain please.” she pleaded.
