Chapter 174: Broken Beyond repairs

The evening was full of chaos. Argument about who was right or wrong.

Vera was the victim here.

Between Toby and Isla, Alec's supposed fiancee, Vera didn't know which of them was right.

Vera stood there, just speechless, and confused.

Isla went from pitying Toby to exposing the affairs they have been having together in the secret.

Right now, she seeks revenge—nothing but revenge.

Meanwhile, Toby remained speechless from all  Isla accusations. From his  actions, Vera now believes all that Isla said.

But Toby, with a slyness, tried to twist Vera’s reality, planting doubt where trust once stood.

“You want to believe this manipulator? Go ahead” He scoffed, gaslighting Vera.

Vera’s eyes flickered.

One minute, she was meant to believe Isla; the next minute, Toby is twisting it all.

“You’re a damn liar” Isla snapped, facing Toby. “Swear we've not been in a serious relationship for eight years now. Sicko”

A cold sneer escaped Toby's lips. “ You've been in a relationship with Alec those years. How come you were with me for those eight also? Does it mean you've been cheating on him and he didn't find out?”

Toby’s knack for twisting the story left Isla, the ever-dramatic queen, questioning everything truth she knew.

At the same time, the twist got Vera confused and she decided to vanish back inside.

“Why are you suddenly denying everything? Why not tell her truth?” Isla screamed at Toby but just at that point, something struck her mind.

Before Toby could speak any more words, Isla stood up running out of the premises.

“Homewrecher! Arrg!” Toby gritted his teeth, puffing in anger.

“Isla, consider yourself dead so” he threatened.

By the time Toby would arrive inside, he saw Vera picking up her things to leave.

It is clear that her dad, and kids were right about Toby all along.

“Where do you think you're going? Don't tell me you believe all that homewrecker said” Toby said with a defensive voice, showing no remorse.

Vera's head spun.

She let go of the things she was packing, turning a burning gaze at him.

She wanted to yell, to scream her frustrations out. But she swallowed her grievance, acting more mature and polished.

“How long have you been destroying Alec's happiness?”Vera calmly said, with a polished charm.

“Excuse me?” Toby's eyes wrinkled.“ What's Alec's business in this?” He demanded aggressively.

She gave a confident smile, masking her pain.  “So, how long have you and Isla been seeing each other? Isn’t she the same woman I spotted at your place a few months back? And yet you still say you have nothing to do with her? Hilarious.”

Toby sighed, playing his card smartly.  “You want to end our relationship because of that cheap thing?” he made an irritating face.

“ Of course I should. “ Vera answered, and continued packing.

“ It's fine” Toby gave up. “ Do whatever pleases you”

Toby said, stepping out of the room.

Vera exhaled, pouring out all the suffocating air in lungs  out.

Without thinking for a second time, she picked up her bag and slammed the door.

Toby sat on the bare floor in the living room with head slightly lower. As soon as Vera stepped in, he pulled himself up a little.

Vera didn't care about him anymore. She hurried to the door but Toby immediately went after her, grabbing her waist from behind.

“ You can't just leave, baby, I'm begging you” he said, broken this time around.

“How long are you going to keep doing this? You slept with the woman that was supposed to be your step brother's wife? And does Alec know you two are brothers?”

Chills ran down his spin. He looked like a monster before Vera.

“Isn’t this conversation supposed to be between us? Why do you keep involving him, Alec?”

“Because you keep trying to have everything he has ever had. Don't tell me you're also the reason they had broken up” She said again, unapologetically.

Toby’s voice lowered as he tried to explain. “ Isla lied to Alec for goodness sake! She also stole from his company. This is the reason for their Separation. Besides, Alec is no saint either.”

She gave a tired shrug, her shoulders sagged in exhaustion. “Listen, I think I need a break from this. Maybe… one Month… two..  I don't know”

“ What are you saying, honey, our wedding is in one month's time?”

“I don’t care,” she murmured, the words slipping out under the weight of exhaustion. “I don’t need this drama right now. Isn’t this the same Isla from weeks ago? How much longer am I supposed to keep holding on?”

Silence flushed.

“And this is final? You're leaving me for good? I thought love is patient?” Toby's eyes flickered with pain.

She didn't reply.

The decision was tough. What If Isla is just doing all of this to ruin her happiness, relationship and career?

Investigating this silently would be the right decision. This would save her from all costly mistakes.

“Talk to me, honey? Are you putting an end to us?” Toby continued with, his voice cracking.

Vera slowly veered around, her eyes fixed at the door.

“I’m ending this right here and now…” Her voice steadied.

“Are you for real? You're going back to Alec?” He sniffed his nose, a sign of remorse.

“Have a good day” She muttered, and walked to the door. Her mind was made up. She's putting an end to the confusion in her life.

“Wait” his voice struck, cutting through the silence. “Alec has a new project he's currently working on, costing him billions of dollars. He's fighting for a spot in heart just so he could use you to establish his project. Isla is still carrying his child also. Alec won't be stupid enough to dump a woman carrying his child. Stop being deluded”

A certain numbness gripped a part of Vera's body, after Toby revealed those things about Alec.

Hurriedly, she opened the door and left. Humming her car, she drove out of Toby's compound,  determined never to return.
