Chapter 172: The Watch

A

Vera has been slowly observing Toby, watching him secretly as the   mother then  watches over her chicks.

She's taking her father's warning and has spent days tailing Toby, searching for any misstep hint or dangers  that could possibly cause her to change her  mind from continuing the relationship.

But Toby proved her wrong. There were no stains or errors about him.

Instead, his love for Vera rekindled, contrasting the evil spoken about him.

With all these that Vera has seen so far, she concluded he  loves her dearly and would never hurt her for any reason.

He has become more loving, sweet and open with everything he does.

Toby kept convincing her that he would never hurt her feelings anymore. And of course, he has kept and acted on every word.

The little challenge Vera had was her kids accepting Toby as their dad.

Despite Toby's effort, the boys still acted cold towards him—especially Elon. The kid was something else. Imagine making decisions as a child and standing by it.

Aish!

Those kids were Vera's only issue right now. Forcing into accepting a complete stranger as a father seems tougher.

Elon even huffed, saying Vera was manipulating him and his brother into accepting her will.

Richard had begged Vera to give the kids time. They are probably not used to being around strangers since Vera monitors them all the time.

The morning sun cast a warm glow in the city.

Vera and passed the night in Toby's place.

It was her first night ever in his place.

Toby wanted her presence in his life  more often but he understood the kind of woman she is. Respecting her decision was very crucial. She should make her decision without him acting up. He  once did that at first—to control her time and money but it didn't work out.

Now that Vera had given him a second chance, he was ready to use it wisely, to avoid making some repeated past mistakes.

That morning, Toby had woken up very early to make Vera her favorite pancakes although his chef assisted him, assuring the taste came out great.

Vera was still fast asleep when Toby returned to the room, beaming from ear to ear. Her presence had changed so many things.

Walking to the side of the bed, he kissed her forehead gently and she curled herself more on the bed as the sensation of the kiss burned down.

The smiles on Toby's face brightened more. No doubt, Vera was as beautiful as ten ladies put together.

Those beautiful heart-shaped lips, her neatly carved brows, those long natural lashes framing her eyelids, the pixie hair, the smooth skin and her bright spotless face. Everything put together makes her a goddess of beauty.

Toby couldn't stop glaring at her while she slept. He reached for her hair, patting it gently.

She yawned and faintly opened her eyes to meet his  gaze.

“ Hey, good morning,”  She said, stretching from a peaceful sleep. “ How long have you been staring?”

“Ten minutes…” he replied and sat on the bed.” Did you sleep well?”

“ More than a child growing in the womb” She said and Toby chuckled.

“I’m glad you did. I made your favorite dish” he smiled.

“ You did?” She raised her brows.

“Yes… I did”

“I better go eat. I'm starving already”

She pulled the blanket off her body, getting out of bed but Toby grabbed her waist.

“Not so fast, Angel”  he pulled her close and brushed his lips against hers, kissing her.

They started gently, lips brushing in quiet longing, until the kiss grew wild and consuming, rooted in depth and passion.

Gentle touch on different parts of the body; very tender yet blazing.  Moans  escape the lips of the lovers, the rhythm filling the room.

Seems Vera was the woman of the moment while Toby relaxed, moaning as Vera's hands electrocuted every organ of his body.

However, the  moment didn't end up with sex. Just a deep, intense romance alone.

Toby did know why Vera constantly kept refusing deeper Intimacy. For the few months they've been together, he had only gotten the chance to squeeze her boob and never saw the sizes or even her nipples.

She wasn't ready for sex. That had been her replies each time Toby had demanded it.

But what more can he do? He can't disrespect Vera so or even force his will on her.

So, he resolved to wait till she was ready.  After the romantic moment, Vera headed to the shower to take a fresh bath before going to have breakfast.

“I'll be waiting for you, baby” Toby's voice echoed.

“I’ll join you soon,” she shouted back from the shower.

A few moments later after showering, she dressed up wearing a black shirt and blue shorts.

Vera wasn't used to spending a day without seeing her kid. The desire to see them was so much on but she had promised to spend two nights with Toby.

Both of them  will be getting married soon. They should spend some time together.

Yet, the idea of spending two whole days without seeing her children weighed heavily on her heart, leaving her emotionally undone.

While on the table together, Toby decided to find out a few things from her.

He cleared his throat and raised his face from this meal.

“Honey,” he called.

“ Yes , dear,” she replied softly with anticipation.

Toby pushed the meal aside, his voice low.

“Now that Alec knows you’re Vanessa, do you think he could stand there and watch you marry me?”

Vera put the cutteries down and took a deep breath.

“Alec is not a bad person, honey. I mean, he used to but not now anymore. I have made this very clear to him and he welcomed my decisions, wishing us well. We don't have anything to worry about”  She said very plainly and Toby nodded silently.

“It’s alright.” he said and continued with his food.

Silence flushed the dining room.

By the time Vera lifted her gaze from her meal, her eyes caught with Toby's sharp eyes and he quickly looked away.

This time, those glances  held neither affection nor admiration.

Toby's eyes were red and scary like that of a predator waiting to feast on his prey.

Those unblinking, Sharp eyes were full of warnings, a possible danger that left Vera frozen and  questioning his kind of  person.
