Chapter 317 Whose Child Is Alex

Chapter 317 Whose Child Is Alex

"What did you say?"

At nine in the morning, with the sun just rising, Celine, dressed in new clothes with a gentle smilewas stopped by the old butler at the entrance of the Windsor Mansion.

"Ms. Lawson, I'm sorry, but Mrs. Windsor is taking a nap and won't be up for a while. Plus, she said she's not seeing any visitors for the next few days. Please go back."

The old butler spoke in a businesslike manner.

She knew that the previous incidents had angered Frederick and made Elizabeth dislike her, but she didn't come all this way to give up so easily.

"Can I just go in and take one look at Alex? Don't worry, I won't reveal myself to Alex until Frederick agrees. I promise!"

Celine said with a sincere expression.

" I really can't help you."

The old butler spread his hands calmly. "Alex went out to have fun. I don't know when he'll be back. Aren't you his wife, and didn't you rush back for his birthday? You must have his phone number, right? I'm definitely not telling you!"

Ignoring how Celine's expression kept changing, the old butler turned and walked away.

Just as the door was about to close, the old butler poked his head out again.

Celine's face lit up.

Then she heard the old butler say, "Stop knocking on the door! If you knock again, I'll call the police. If this ends up at the station, it won't look good!"

Celine's face darkened, she could barely contain the anger in her eyes.

After staring at the door for a long while, Celine took a deep breath and made a phone call as she walked away. "It's Celine. I'm back..."

At a coffee shop in the city center, when Donna arrived, Celine was leisurely sipping her coffee.

Three years had passed, and the haggard, lackluster Celine had transformed back into a graceful and dignified socialite.

If you weren't observant, you could barely tell she'd had a child.

"Celine, when you were with the Windsor family, I was the nicest person to you in the whole family, right?"

Donna got straight to the point. "Tell me the truth is Alex your child with Jasper, or your child with Frederick?"

Everyone in Empire City, including most of the Windsor family, knew that Alex was Jasper's posthumous child, with an unknown birth mother.

But only Jared and Donna had received a cryptic remark from Celine back then.

Because of that one sentence, over these years, whenever there was any news about the Windsor family, Celine would know about it immediately, even while abroad.

However, as part of the very few people in the know, both Jared and Donna felt uneasy, worried they might have misunderstood.

Or worse, that Celine had played them.

A flicker of awareness flashed through her lowered eyes, and when she looked up again, it had all turned into unspeakable pain. Celine said softly, "Would I lie about my own reputation?"

"I know that if I say it like that, you won't believe me. But I don't believe you haven't checked. Since you did check, you should know I'm not lying."

Donna's face flushed with embarrassment.

She and Jared had indeed checked.

The date Celine mentioned was the Windsor Group's celebration party.

Both Jasper and Frederick were at that hotel, in rooms right across from each other.

The security cameras didn't catch when Celine followed Frederick into his hotel room because there was a power outage on that floor.

But the next morning, Celine definitely came out of Frederick's room.

In the surveillance footage, Celine walked out of the room with tears streaming down her face and went straight to the elevator.

Not long after, the room door opened, and Frederick walked out.

And Jasper was staying in the adjacent room.

Frederick returned to the Windsor Group.

Jasper headed straight to the airport to handle the Windsor Group's overseas project.

Two months later, Jasper died in a car accident on his way to the airport to fly back home.

When the tragic news reached home, Celine fainted.

When she woke up, she learned she was two months pregnant.

Then came the incident of Jasper's parents tearfully begging Celine to have the child.

The entire timeline, including the hotel surveillance, had been checked and analyzed by Donna and Jared countless times.

Not to mention, Alex's face looked almost identical to Frederick's childhood photos.

At this moment, even though Celine hadn't given her a clear and definite confirmation, Donna's heart seemed to settle back into place, and she let out a gentle breath while drinking her coffee.

Her eyes flickered slightly, as Celine breathed a sigh of relief. "What's the deal with Rebecca? Isn't she Dennis's fiancée? How did she suddenly marry Frederick?"

"Who knows..."

Thinking of Rebecca reminded Donna of being talked back to at the Windsor family last time, and how Frederick had protected her and coldly put Donna in her place.

She'd originally thought that with so many family members around, Rebecca would show more respect to the Windsor family elders. Donna had gone there with some resentment.

Unexpectedly, they only saw each other briefly at the dinner table, didn't even get to exchange words, and then Rebecca left.

On one hand, she felt Frederick was using Rebecca to warn everyone not to cause trouble on good days.

On the other hand, she felt he genuinely cared about Rebecca.

But Frederick had been deep and inscrutable since childhood—no one could figure out what he was thinking.

Eventually, people stopped trying to guess.

After all, everyone's hopes rested on Frederick. As long as Frederick was doing well and continued to make good money next year, so they could get nice dividends at year-end, that was enough.

Whether he truly loved and doted on Rebecca, or it was just for show, only he could say which it was.

"Whether he likes her or not, only he knows. But from what we outsiders can see, he does seem to protect Rebecca quite a bit."

Donna said irritably.

"But is she really as good to Alex as you said?"

Celine asked with disbelief.

On this point, even Donna had to admit it. "Whether she genuinely cares about the child or is just putting on a show for Frederick, anyway, in the middle of winter, into an icy lake—they say she didn't hesitate for a second before jumping in. Celine..."

As if thinking of something, Donna lowered her voice. "Not many people in the Windsor family know about this, so don't say I told you."

Celine's gaze paused.

If it was really as everyone saw it, and Rebecca jumped into the icy lake to save Alex...

Then this was a good thing—why keep it from everyone?

Or was it all an act from the beginning, something Rebecca staged for Frederick?

In her mind, images of the lively, cheerful young woman who used to follow Dennis around as a devoted bird overlapped with the cold, distant, stunning face in the Maybach's passenger seat last night.

Celine looked out the window at the gathering darkness, her eyes growing colder bit by bit.
