Chapter 40
"What do you mean Rue is dead?" Octavia asked, sitting up on the bed properly. She wasn't exactly shocked by the news, but what did June mean by that? How could Rue be dead? Well, she had not seen Keir for the past two weeks now, but she was sure he was doing alright, and Rue was fine as well.
She even saw a photo of her recently on a magazine cover; it seemed her modeling career was kicking off, and she wasn't wasting her time trying to get Keir's attention.
"Apparently she died some days ago, but they have been keeping it low," June explained. She had overheard someone discussing it in the office; her sister worked as a cook in the Hydra's mansion, so she knew everything that went on in the house. They said they had just found Rue dead in her room this morning.
"That doesn't make any sense," Octavia said. She watched Atlas stand up from the bed, signaling her to take her time while he went to the bathroom to get himself clean as he was stained with his own cum.
"Same thing I said: I think you should call Keir and find out what is really going on," June suggested. She wasn't one to gossip, but if truly Rue was dead, then there was more to the whole story because why were they hiding something as serious as this?
Octavia remained silent over the phone, trying to process everything. She couldn't just call Keir and tell him that she heard Rue was dead. The last time they had spoken, he had made her feel like she was crazy for poking her nose into his business, and now he was going to certainly conclude that she was obsessed with him and was keeping tabs on his house.
If truly Rue was dead, why didn't he just call her to inform her about it, out of all the people he should be calling? She was his best friend, or was she no longer his best friend because of the little misunderstanding they had?
"I will; thanks for telling me, but it will be best if you don't go around gossiping about it, even though I know you are not that kind of person," Octavia advised.
"Sure," June said, disconnecting the call.
"Who died?" Atlas asked, waking up naked. He walked to the wardrobe to get himself a new pair of clothes to wear as Octavia watched him. He wasn't so bad naked; he was good-looking, a well-groomed man with firm buttocks. "I am sure it is not my butt that died," Atlas teased, noticing that Octavia was looking at his butt and not answering his question.
Maybe he should start getting more naked around her; it seemed she was turned on by things like that.
"Rue," Octavia said. "It's not yet confirmed, but it's best I call Keir to find out.
"Yeah, you should do that; news spreads fast. Atlas smiled, wearing his brief and getting dressed.
Ring!
Speaking of the devil, it was Keir who was calling her, and if her guess was right, it was because of Rue, so he could call her because of Rue but not because of their argument.
"Sorry," she apologized again, showing Atlas her phone screen that someone was calling her.
"Take your time," Atlas reassured her. They had all day to do as they pleased.
"Hello."
"Where are you, Octavia? Keir asked angrily.
Why did he sound angry? And what was his business with her whereabouts? When did he suddenly care about her whereabouts?
"What is the matter?"
"Where are you?"
"What do you mean, where am I? I heard Rue is dead; is that true?"
"Yes, she is dead. I came to your office to see you but was informed you were home, but I know you are not home, so where are you?" Keir asked.
"You came all the way to tell me about Rue's death; seriously, Keir, fine, so she is dead; thank you for informing me," Octavia replied, rolling her eyes. She had totally forgotten about Atlas's presence and the fact that he was secretly looking at her while he dressed and getting an idea of what they were talking about.
"The burial ceremony is tomorrow, and it's a private burial," Keir explained.
"You could have just called me on the phone to inform me about it; you did not need to come all the way to my office to tell me something like that when clearly it was obvious you didn't even want to tell me in the first place," Octavia said. "I suppose your mom forced you to tell me."
"She committed suicide, okay, and we just had to be sure. Look, when you get here with June, I will explain everything to you. Keir sighed.
"June?"
"You are allowed to bring someone, and I suppose you would be coming with June.
Was he mocking her? Was he trying to say that she would never be able to bring a date to any event because she couldn't be in a relationship?
"I will be coming with Atlas," Octavia informed Keir as Atlas threw a glance at her.
"Wait, are you with Atlas right now?"
NEXT DAY BURIAL CEREMONY ~
~ HYDRA'S MANSION ~
"Seems like they really weren't joking about being private," Atlas said, opening the door for Octavia as she came out holding his hand.
There was only a small crowd of people when they got into the living room. Octavia didn't understand why they were having Rue's burial at Keir's house and not at Rue's; was her family even here to mourn her?
She and Atlas had gotten here late and missed the main event. Right now, people were just drinking wine and consoling each other on Rue's death. Was this how burial ceremonies were like? so boring and gloomy.
"Watermelon," she heard as she looked in the direction of the voice to see Keir and Sandy approaching them. She noticed Keir's eyes falling on her hand in Atlas and then back at her. Since he was calling her watermelon today and not by her name, did that mean they were back to being friends?
He didn't look like he had been crying—not that she expected him to be crying over the death of Rue, but she expected him to look sad; instead, he seemed angry. She was guessing it was because of Atlas; he had told her not to bring him, but she still brought him anyway. Why the hell was she going to bring June when clearly he was going to bring Sandy?
From what she even heard, Sandy was going to be moving in soon. Their relationship was moving too fast for normal, and if she wasn't so observant, she would have missed the ring on Sandy's hand. Was that an engagement ring? It seemed she was acting silly by letting Keir be and figure things out.
Wasn't it yet obvious to him that this lady was shady?
