Chapter 85: What should I do, Lyyana?
"Because... because your father is the one who ruined my father's career. But I only found out when we were close, and Jessica revealed everything. Initially, I wanted to tell you, but because of the resentment and heartache towards your father, I kept it to myself and followed all the orders given by Renaldi and his wife."
Berli bowed her head. "I'm the one who leaked your whereabouts, I spread the news that you caused the accident, I made Garret traumatized and suffer from the delayed treatment, I replaced Garret's medicine, I also prevented Garret from getting therapy. I did all of that because of Renaldi's orders and the grudge I held against my family's departure and destruction," Berli said hoarsely.
Lyyana rubbed Petra's back and held his hand tightly. "What evidence can you provide?"
"I still have all the evidence of the messages they sent, records of their phone conversations, and the names of their henchmen," Berli replied as she took out another phone. "All the evidence is here. I intentionally used two phones, just in case they try to pin this on me."
Petra took the phone Berli placed on the table, she opened it and was shocked by everything inside. "Aura is not their child. And Aura's presence made it difficult for them to inherit, because Aura's grandmother adored her and left her entire fortune to Aura and Garret. That's why Renaldi and his wife wanted to get rid of both of them. And as for Mr. Colton, I don't know what his motive was for killing them too."
Petra fell silent, she never expected that the culprit was someone so close who even seemed kind and caring towards Garret and Aura. "Actually, Aura could have survived that day. However, Renaldi refused the surgery to save Aura because his goal was to get rid of her. He also refused to announce the true events and made it seem like you were the culprit. There must be a reason, he wanted you to be devastated and go crazy so that he wouldn't have any business rivals and could easily get rid of Garret."
Petra shook her head in disbelief at the cruelty of her in-laws who were willing to take someone's life. "I think that's all I can say. I hope you and Lyyana can forgive us. After this, if you want to report me to the police, I accept it. However, before that happens, allow me to marry Denzel first. The man I love."
Petra didn't say anything, she just left the living room without a word. Lyyana let Petra calm herself down. She smiled and looked at Berli's foster family and the others. "I'm sorry, perhaps Petra needs time to accept everything. I'll try to persuade her not to take you to the police. Thank you for providing this information, as we really need it."
"Lyyana, what is your heart made of?" Berli said hoarsely, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Lyyana just smiled. "Forgive all my actions and words toward you before. I... regret it."
Lyyana smiled and shook her head. "It's okay. Let's forget about it and start a new life."
"Miss Lyyana, you are truly beautiful inside and out. Your heart and your appearance are equally beautiful. May your marriage and Petra always be peaceful and happy until old age," Berli said.
"Aamiin, thank you so much for your prayers, Auntie."
They chatted for a while, and after 10 minutes, Berli's foster father said, "It seems like Petra needs you, so we'll take our leave now, Miss. Until we meet again, it's been a pleasure getting to know you."
"Thank you for the visit and the information, Uncle, Auntie. May your day be pleasant," Lyyana said with a smile on her face. She then escorted Berli and her family to the porch and waited until their car disappeared from sight.
After that, Lyyana turned around and was about to go inside. She hurried to the kitchen to return the glasses and make green tea for Petra. After preparing the green tea, Lyyana immediately took it to Petra's workspace. She knocked a few times, but there was no response. She entered and saw Petra lost in thought by the corner window, gazing at the blue sky and rooftops of other buildings.
"Hey," Lyyana greeted, placing the green tea on the table and walking over to Petra.
Lyyana's slender fingers reached out to touch Petra's shoulder. "Everything will be okay," she said softly, giving a gentle pat on Petra's shoulder.
Petra turned around, her eyes brimming with tears. She lunged into Lyyana's arms, almost causing the petite woman to stagger backward. Petra cried within Lyyana's embrace, holding her tightly.
"Why does it have to be like this? Why is this happening?" Petra whispered into Lyyana's shoulder, her voice choked with emotion.
Lyyana remained silent, stroking Petra's back and trying to calm her down.
"Why does it have to be her, why does it have to be my parents and my family‼ What should I do, Lyyana?"
Lyyana remained silent, not uttering a word. Petra still cried in Lyyana's embrace; this was the first time Petra had cried in front of someone else. Even when her family passed away, she didn't cry in public; she only stayed silent and observed their lined-up bodies.
Lyyana released her embrace and touched Petra's arm. "Let's take it slow. You have the accurate evidence now, we just need to report it to the police and let them handle the investigation."
Petra cupped Lyyana's face and looked at her with teary eyes. "Should I report Berli?"
"No, you shouldn't. I see him here as a victim. He did it reluctantly. Hopefully, he won't get into trouble with the law."
Petra nodded, embracing Lyyana again and resting her chin on Lyyana's head. They hugged for quite some time until Berli's phone, which he had given earlier, rang briefly. Petra and Lyyana frowned and Petra turned on her phone. Petra read the text message from Jessica, asking about the poison and the progress of her relationship with Petra. She also asked if Berli had succeeded in breaking Garret and Petra mentally.
Petra's heart raced; she immediately grabbed her phone and called her lawyer to discuss the accident. While waiting for her lawyer to arrive, Lyyana stayed with Petra. She seemed so patient, occasionally massaging Petra's shoulders and calming the man down.
Elsewhere, Berli had just arrived at Denzel's new home, where they would live after getting married. Berli's parents decided to return to their office in their own car after dropping off Berli and Denzel at Denzel's house.
"Darling," Denzel called out, hugging Berli from behind and gently stroking her stomach.
Berli leaned back into Denzel's chest and nuzzled the crook of Denzel's neck. "I'm sorry I disappointed you," she whispered, holding Denzel's hand on her stomach.
"No, darling, you haven't disappointed me. I had a worse past than yours. You were trapped, while I did it consciously."
Berli sighed as Denzel's fingers started to move to her front. "But I'm not special anymore, Denzel."
