Chapter 69: The prom 2
Elara
Prom Night…
“You look so beautiful.” Landon smiled. I wore the dress he got me, with the shoes. My hair was perfect, and I had the most beautiful smile on my face when I headed into the car with him.
“Landon can we afford this?” I whispered, it was a limousine, and there was wine, cake that says congratulations, I felt like it was a bit too much, he stared at me with a smile on his face, his eyes were gazing up to mine. “It’s-“
“Perfect, we only have one prom, we are going to enjoy every part of it.” He smiled. “Tomorrow we will begin our new life.”
Our new life, fuck, I wanted to tell him but I knew better than to ruin his night, I knew that Landon had been preparing for this for a long time, I didn’t want it to end badly, I wanted this last night to be the most memorable night of our lives.
The prom was not at school. We contributed, and our parents did. We would be having him at the hotel in town. They have a beautiful, gorgeous hall that we would be using. The whole room was covered in beautiful flowers.
It was something straight out of a fantasy, our theme is nature, that’s why I wore red, with pastels of flowers on it, as a red rose and Landon wore a suit, there was a red rose on his pocket, to match my dress.
I had a smile on my face as we walked further into the room, he held my hand softly.
“Come on.”
“Dancing already” I asked, the music played loudly, it sounded perfect against my ears, my shoe clicking against the ground as I danced, we looked weird dancing big neither of us cared
“This may be the last time I see any of these assholes,” Landon yelled.
He twirled me around the dance floor and my back rested perfectly against his chest, and his hand brushed against my waist, and he placed a kiss on my nape.
“Who do you think will win prom queen and king, I doubt they will give it to a junior.”
“We will see.”
That meant something, what did he do? Did he pay them off? If I win, I would be happy, I never imagined I would, even when it would be any real prom, I always imagined someone like Clara would win and for the king, it has to be one of the players.
“Landon what did you do?”
“Nothing, if we win, best believe it’s based on merit, because we are worth it.” He said and I smiled.
The music stopped, Landon and I settled on our table, there were other students beside us when I heard the host speak, I could barely pay attention with the thoughts in my mind, it was starting to eat me up.
“What’s wrong?”
“I need we need to talk,” I yelled into his ear, my eyes covered with seriousness, I don’t want to ruin our night yet I can’t help it, it’s starting to make me lose my mind.
Landon and I stood up when the lights shone on him.
“Landon Hayes, and his team.” The host yelled, fuck, I forgot we had to honor them for the win, Landon mumbled an apology before heading to the stage.
I need to get out of here.
——
“Leaving your date already.” A voice called as I made my way through the hallway, it was Dylan; he stood beside the door, a drink in his hand. “Landon would be so disappointed.”
“I’m going to the bathroom asshole.”
“Sure.” He mumbled,
“Congratulations, by the way, I heard about your little competition, you got a scholarship and you would be leaving for, where? How would this perfect relationship work?”
A wave of irritation washed over me, and I felt a wave of anger boiling through my skin.
“It’s our last night, you don’t have to be an asshole about anything and don’t worry about Landon and I, we are nothing like you, he is not stupid, he is not dumb and he is sure as hell will understand things unlike you ever will, our relationship will continue to be perfect, and guess what in a couple of years, you will be shocked to find us together again.”
Fuck the bathroom.
I don’t need Dylan telling him anything.
I turned my heels around in anger.
“Good luck, I would love to see that happen, you know why, because I know you Elara, no matter how much you want to pretend, we did spend a lot to time together and I know the type of person you are, this relationship is only going to work as long as you continue to place your dream first, if something threatens your dream. It will come to an end, you will leave Landon.”
His words caused an ache in my heart, I looked away briefly, he was right, I decided to tell Landon I can’t come to Vermont, I planned on telling him that if this is not going to work, then maybe this relationship would not have a chance, I hate that Dylan figured that out even before I could say it to Landon.
“Word of advice, when you break his heart, you do it gently, baby boy can’t take much.” He chuckled. “You already chose your dreams over your parents, I am sure Landon will not be surprised by what will hit him.”
Fuck.
“I hate you Dylan Reid, I wish I had never had to see you again, and try not to be an asshole in college,” I mumbled against my breath. “I still won at the end, Landon and I are happy, and guess what, we are leaving for Vermont, that’s where we will be, I’m not choosing anyone over anything, you are wrong, you don’t know me.” I breathed out.
“Yet my words seem to get to you somehow.” He smiled.
