Chapter 72: Panic Attack

Elyse’s P.O.V

The drive to Kyle's house felt like the longest trip of my life. Every minute that passed, my mind churned, replaying the conversation I just had with Cam. The silence in the car was deafening. I could barely breathe, my heart hammering in my chest as the image of his face lingered in my mind.

I had to get away. I had to talk to someone. I didn't want to think about it anymore, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stop the overwhelming sense of panic creeping in. What had I just done? Why had I let things go so far? Was it too late to fix it?

The streets blurred past, my hands gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles turned white. I needed answers. I needed someone who would listen without judging. Someone who could help me make sense of all the chaos in my head. And that someone, I knew, was Kyle.

As I pulled up to his mansion, the familiar dread settled in my stomach. I hadn’t been to Kyle’s place in weeks, but the drive was so automatic that my body just knew where to go. The mansion loomed before me, an imposing, quiet structure with dark windows like it was watching me. I parked the car and stared at the door for a moment, taking a deep breath. I had no idea what I was going to say, but I knew I had to say something.

I knocked on the door, a bit frantically, trying to steady myself. The door opened slowly, and there was Kyle, standing there in a thick robe, his hair disheveled and his eyes half-closed like I’d woken him from the deepest sleep. His eyebrows shot up in surprise when he saw me standing there.

“What the hell, man?” Kyle asked, his voice thick with sleep. “What’s going on?”

I could tell by the way he squinted at me that I wasn’t the person he expected to show up at this hour. He had no idea how badly I needed to talk.

“I... I need to talk,” I said, my voice hoarse. “It’s urgent.”

Kyle’s expression shifted. The groggy look faded, replaced by something more serious. He stepped back, motioning for me to come inside.

“Alright, come in,” he said, his tone now softening. “Let’s sit down.”

I stepped into Kyle’s house, and I couldn’t help but notice how massive and intricately designed it was. The high ceilings, the expensive artwork on the walls, the polished floors—it all should’ve impressed me. But nothing about the house registered in my mind. Not right now. Not with what I was about to say hanging on the tip of my tongue.

I followed him into the dimly lit hallway. The air was heavy, thick with the silence of a house that was still, save for the occasional hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen. Kyle led me to the dining room, where the large wooden table sat under the glow of a single overhead light. He gestured for me to sit, and I did, though my body felt too stiff to relax.

Kyle poured us both some orange juice, the glass clinking softly as he set it down in front of me. I didn’t even pick it up at first. My mind was elsewhere, tangled in a web of thoughts I couldn’t escape.

“Talk to me, Elyse,” Kyle said, taking a seat across from me. His voice was steady now, calm, but I could tell he was trying to gauge my mood. He knew something was off, but I wasn’t sure how to explain it.

I didn’t hesitate. “I made a grave mistake, Kyle.”

His brows furrowed, clearly caught off guard by my bluntness. “What do you mean?”

I swallowed hard, my throat dry, the words catching in my chest like they didn’t want to come out. But I pushed them forward. “I... I had sex with Cam during my rut, and I might’ve knotted inside him. That means Cam could get…pregnant now.”

The silence that followed felt like it stretched out forever. I could almost hear my heart pounding in my ears. Kyle’s eyes widened, his shock mirrored in his face. He opened his mouth as if to say something but closed it again. It was like he couldn’t process what I’d just said. I couldn’t blame him.

“You—what?” Kyle finally managed, his voice shaky with confusion.

“I know it’s a lot to take in,” I said, struggling to find the right words, but I needed him to hear me. “But it’s true. And now we’re in a situation where Cam might be pregnant, and I don’t think I’m  ready for that. Hell, I’m not even sure I want that.”

Kyle leaned back in his seat, his expression turning pensive. He ran a hand through his hair, the gravity of what I was saying settling on him like a weight.

“Do you want that? A life and a family with Cam?” he asked, his voice quieter now, almost as if he was probing, trying to understand what I was feeling.

I shook my head quickly, the words finally coming together. “No. I don’t want that. I don’t want a future with Cam. When I picture a future, the only person I see in it... it’s you, Kyle. It’s always been you.”

The words tumbled out faster than I’d meant them to, but once they were out, I felt a strange sense of clarity. My chest felt a little lighter like I’d finally spoken the truth, the one I’d been avoiding. The one I hadn’t even fully allowed myself to acknowledge.

Kyle sat there in silence, staring at me. His face softened, but there was a certain wariness in his eyes as if he was trying to process everything all at once. “You mean... like, you see me as more than just a friend? Are you finally admitting the truth, Elyse?”

I nodded, the heaviness in my chest finally starting to dissipate. “Yeah. I’ve been seeing you like that for a while now. But I didn’t know how to say it, how to tell you, because I didn’t want to ruin what we had. But now... with everything going on with Cam, I can’t pretend like I don’t know what I want anymore.”

As the words hung in the air between us, my mind started to spiral again, the weight of everything crashing down on me once more. The truth was out now—there was no going back. What I felt for Kyle, what I’d known for so long but had been too afraid to admit, had finally been spoken aloud. And now we had to figure out what to do with it all.

But I couldn't deny that the situation with Cam was still hanging over us like a dark cloud. I had no idea what would happen if he really got pregnant. The mess of it all seemed almost too overwhelming to even consider, and I could feel the old panic creeping up inside me again. I couldn’t handle this. I couldn’t even begin to wrap my head around it.

Kyle leaned back slightly in his chair, a thoughtful look on his face. “But what if there’s more to this than we think?” His voice was calm and controlled, as if he was carefully weighing something in his mind before speaking it aloud.

I furrowed my brow. “What do you mean?”

He looked at me, his gaze intense yet measured. “What if I told you…that even if Cam does get pregnant, there’s a chance that the baby might not even be yours?” Kyle asked, his voice soft but firm.

Hey guys...I know it's been a long while, but I only recently gained some inspiration to write this story again. Updates won't be regular, but I'll try my best to give it my all and provide a steady update.

As for the pregnancy thing, a lot of you guys were confused, so let me clarify a few things.

The book takes place in the "omegaverse" an alternate universe which is ruled by the ABO system.

A- Alphas- They are masculine and dominating, and yes, always the top. They produce strong pheromones that attract omegas and betas to them. They occupy most powerful positions and are the head of the power structure, taking on the more labourous tasks and being the 'top of the food chain'. They can also impregnate Betas and Omegas. And finally...the female Alphas also have dicks! Yes, you heard that right. And they too can impregnate Betas and Omegas. But except special case, no one can impregnate an Alpha, not even a female Alpha. In some cases, they do have powers. They also go through a heat/mating cycle called Rut.

B- Betas- They are often a mix of Alphas and Omegas, and thus have no pheromones and mostly refered to as 'human'. They are usually midway between Alpha's and omegas, but are generally ignored. Betas usually tend to mate with other Betas, but they can't always impregante other Betas, only omegas.

O- Omegas- Usually delicate in features and takes on more nurturing roles and considered the bottom of the chain and weaker. They too have a captivating pheromone that attracts Alpha's towards them. They work normal jobs and mostly healthcare and caregiving roles. Soft features and slender figures. They also have a womb just behind their prostrate, which allows them to get pregnant via an Alpha or a Beta. But since there is no...err...opening...omegas always give birth via c-section. They go through a mating cycle called heat, and during this time, an Alpha nearby can start their Rut, so it's basically a mating call.

And finally...the best of the best...

Enigma- Enigmas are the rarest of the rare, and are considered to be even more powerful than an Alpha. Enigmas don't usually go through heat cycles and mostly their phermones are the same as a strong Alpha, but they sometimes have special abilities beyond comprehension, and most importantly...they are the only ones who can imperegnate an Alpha, and turn them into an Omega.

So...there you have it...a sneek peek into the world of the Omegaverse! Hope this helped clear your doubts about Cam getting pregnant.
