Chapter 16: The substance

Evelyn’s POV

“Mrs. Rachel, I'm sorry but you need to follow me to the police station for some questioning “

“What!? You all think I killed Christopher because you saw some stupid substance on me? Do you know what the substance is or what it does?”

“Oh shut up your mouth Martha, if you don't go with him to the station I will personally drag you there”

Walt said to Martha with so much anger in his eyes, he looked so angry and scary at the same time I flinched a bit.

“I swear Walt that substance is not what you all think it is please, believe me”

“Ok, what exactly is the substance?”

Chloe stood up and asked her.

“OK, so Chris told me to get him something that could make him energetic like something to boost his energy because he wanted to have a good time with his wife but he didn't have the energy to do that because he had been so busy, so I went outside and there was this man outside across the hotel that I saw selling drugs to people so I told him what I wanted and he told me it was the best, so I bought it for Chris and as we all know Mrs. Evelyn’s hotel doesn't accept contraband so that's the reason why I hid the drugs inside my clothe”

“You got the drugs from outside from a man?”

“Yes, Evelyn didn't you hear me the first time I said it?”

“You brought drugs inside my hotel, that's a big offense on its own”

“Ok, ok, calm down Mrs. CEO lets focus on the matter at hand first”

I looked at her and rolled my eyes, Matthew sat on a chair with Rachel, he held her shoulders, and patted her back.

“Do you know the man? Would you recognize him when you see him?

“He wore a mask”

“Oh my God Martha, you crazy….”

Matthew stood up with so much anger Ready to tear Martha’s head from her body but the officer quickly pushed him back. He looked at Martha with so much disappointment, he was disappointed in his wife if he could be would kill her at that point.

“You bought drugs from a man that wore a mask on his face! How dumb can you be?”

“Matthew that's enough, you have been throwing all sorts of insults at me since we got here without trying to understand or hear me out”

“I should hear you out? I should listen to you? You know that have endured enough from you, you do different things every single day and I don't even complain why? Because I try to see situations from your perspective, I forgive all of your shortcomings because of how much I loved you, but you never learn, you keep doing more and more things to offend me. And now you stand here to tell me about understanding you? You must be very crazy to say that “

“Well Mrs. Martha we will get Mr. Christopher's body examined and undergo autopsy and find what that substance was until then you must not leave this country and whenever we need you in the station you must respond and come immediately or else you will be reported as a runaway suspect for a murder case”

“What?”

“You heard me, madam”

“We should have just stayed back home I told you Matthew that I had a bad feeling about this wedding but of course, you never listened to me anyway “

“There's no bad feeling Martha, someone was killed and you are the prime suspect, you don't get it do you, Martha?”

“Hold it right there Chloe and stop showing attitudes okay”

“Oh, really I will show you some attitudes then “

Chloe tried to walk to meet Martha but I held her, Having known Chloe for a long time, I knew exactly what she could do.

“Mrs. Evelyn, I will be in touch please ensure no one leaves the country till I am done with the investigation”

“I will try my best officer”

“Thank you, I will be on my way now”

He left then we all went to my house where Walt’s mum and my aunt were. We explained everything to them and told them they could both leave and go back to their houses, that we could handle everything so they didn't have to worry.

I took Angel inside my room to ask her about what she wanted to tell me.

“Angel I'm so sorry I haven't had your time ok? So what was it you wanted to say to me?”

“Aunty I saw an unknown man at the wedding and he was with someone else but I was unable to see the person, he handed some things to the person like hard drugs which is contraband and I know your hotel forbids drugs so that's why I rushed to tell you but you were busy”

“An unknown man?”

“His face was covered with a mask so I didn't see his face clearly, and also the person he was with I only saw the person's hand but I'm sure it was a lady”

“A lady? That crazy bitch Martha, it must have been her”

“I don't think it was her aunty”

“What? Why?”

“Aunty Martha was inside staring at Uncle Walt when I left, and when I went outside she was still inside so if it was a lady then it was not Aunty Martha “

“Angel hold on let me call Uncle Walt okay”

I carried my phone and called him to come upstairs when he came, I told Angel to repeat everything she told me to him, and she did, he was as shocked as me.

“Angel, don't tell anybody else about this okay please, and thank you so much for telling your aunt and me okay”

“Yes Uncle Walt “

Angel was only 15 but she had always been very smart, she would always top her class and collect lots of gifts during her school's prize-giving day.

“Now go and join everyone downstairs to eat okay “

“Okay Uncle Walt, see you later Aunt”
