Chapter 109: 109. From Passion to Parenthood
The sharp knock shattered the intimate cocoon. Hazel's eyes flew wide open, her body instantly tensing beneath Michele's still-hard length. The heat of their passion, the building rhythm, the desperate hunger, all of it evaporated in an instant, replaced by a surge of pure, unadulterated panic.
"George!" she gasped, her hands shoving against Michele's chest. "Oh God… It must be him. George…"
Michele grunted as she pushed him off her. He landed on his back, his eyes dazed with the abrupt transition from ecstasy to chaos. "Hazel, wait…"
"No, no, no," Hazel muttered, scrambling off the bed, her body still slick with sweat and arousal.
She grabbed the nearest piece of clothing, Michele's discarded dress shirt from the night before and yanked it over her head. The fabric fell to her mid-thigh, but she barely noticed. Her heart was pounding, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
"Hazel..." Michele's voice was calm, steady, a stark contrast to her spiraling panic.
He rose from the bed in one fluid motion, crossing to her in two strides. His hands found her shoulders, his grip firm but gentle, grounding her.
"Look at me. Breathe," he commanded, his voice low and soothing.
Hazel's wild blue eyes met his and she forced herself to take a shaky breath. "Michele, I…"
"It's fine. Whatever it is, I'll take care of it. Go freshen up. I'll handle whoever's at the door," he said, his thumb stroking her collarbone.
"But George…"
"Is probably just hungry," Michele interrupted, his lips curving into a wry smile. "Or he wants to show us his latest toy car arrangement. Either way, I'll handle it. You go shower. Take your time."
Hazel's panic began to subside, replaced by a warmth that spread through her chest. She reached up, her hand cupping his cheek, her thumb tracing his jawline.
"I love you," she whispered.
"I love you too, baby. Now go. Before you start panicking again," he replied, pressing a kiss to her forehead.
Hazel laughed, the sound weak but genuine and disappeared into the bathroom, the sound of running water soon filling the silence. Michele watched her go. Then he turned toward the door. He pulled on his trousers and grabbed a plain white t-shirt from the dresser. He opened the door, his expression carefully neutral and found Maya standing with Nathan cradled in her arms.
"Oh, thank God! I was starting to think you two had died in there," Maya said, her voice a mix of relief and exasperation.
Michele's lips twitched. "Not quite. What's wrong?"
Maya shifted Nathan in her arms and the baby's face came into view, tear-streaked, his tiny mouth open in a wail that had clearly been going on for some time. His hair was damp with sweat and his little fists were clenched in frustration.
"He's been like this for the past hour. We tried everything, but it seems he just wants his mommy. I think he needs his feed," Maya explained, her voice raised over Nathan's cries.
Michele reached out, his large hands careful as he took Nathan from Maya's arms. The baby's cries immediately softened, his blue eyes so like his mother's, blinking up at his father with recognition.
"Hey, little kid, what's all this fuss about, huh? You're giving Auntie Maya a hard time," Michele murmured, his voice dropping to that low, soothing register he reserved for his sons.
Nathan's wails subsided into hiccupping sobs, his tiny fist reaching up to grab at Michele's t-shirt. Michele pressed a kiss to his son's forehead, breathing in the familiar scent of baby powder and innocence.
"Thank you for bringing him up. We were just... getting ready," Michele said, his eyes meeting Maya's.
Maya's grin was knowing. "I bet you were."
Michele's expression remained impassive. "Where's George?"
"With Derek. They're making breakfast in the kitchen. George is on cloud nine," Maya replied.
"Of course he is. He is really fond of Derek," Michele smiled.
"He’s been asking for both of you. But Derek's got him completely under control," Maya added.
Michele nodded, his gaze dropping back to Nathan, who had finally stopped crying.
"We'll be down soon. I need to get Hazel and then we'll join you," Michele said.
Maya's smile was knowing. "Take your time. We've got everything under control. Derek's handling George and I've got Nathan for now."
She turned and disappeared down the hallway.
"Your mother's going to kill me for this. But I have a feeling she'll forgive me," he murmured to the baby.
The bathroom door opened and Hazel emerged in a cloud of steam, her hair damp and clinging to her shoulders. She'd wrapped herself in a silk robe, her eyes immediately finding Michele and Nathan.
"Is he okay? What happened?" she breathed, crossing the room in quick strides.
"He missed you. Maya said he was cranky for an hour. Wouldn't settle for anything," Michele said, his voice soft.
Hazel reached out, taking Nathan into her arms. The baby's eyes fluttered open and the moment he saw his mother, his face transformed into a gummy smile.
"Hey, my little love. Did you miss Mommy? I missed you too. So, so much," Hazel cooed, pressing kisses to his cheeks, his forehead, the tip of his nose.
Nathan's tiny hand reached up, his fingers wrapping around her thumb with surprising strength.
"He was looking for you. He knows his mother's scent," Michele said, his voice thick.
Hazel's smile was radiant as Nathan latched on. "He's a mama's boy unlike his brother."
"Of course he's a mama's boy, George too. You're impossible to resist," Michele corrected, his hand finding her shoulder, his thumb stroking her skin.."
Hazel laughed. "Go shower. I've got him. We'll be ready by the time you're done."
Michele pressed a kiss to her forehead, then to Nathan's downy head.
The kitchen was a symphony of warmth and chaos.
George sat at the island, his small face smeared with syrup, his chubby hands clutching a half-eaten pancake. His eyes lit up the moment he saw Hazel descend the stairs, Nathan cradled in her arms.
"Mommy! Mommy, George made pancakes!" George shrieked, scrambling off his stool.
Hazel laughed. "I can see that, baby. You've got syrup everywhere."
"I helped! Uncle Derek let George flip!" George announced proudly, gesturing toward Derek, who was standing by the stove with a spatula in hand.
Derek's smile was warm. "He's a natural. Future chef in the making."
Michele descended the stairs behind Hazel. He crossed to George, scooping the boy into his arms and pressing kisses to his syrup-covered cheeks.
"Did you save any pancakes for Daddy?" Michele asked, his voice a low rumble.
George giggled, his small hands patting Michele's face. "Yes! George saved pancakes!"
"Good boy," Michele murmured, pressing a kiss to George's forehead.
The morning unfolded in a blur of laughter and love. They gathered around the kitchen table. Nathan slept peacefully in Hazel's arms. George regaled them with a detailed account of his pancake-flipping adventures, his small hands gesturing wildly as he described each toss and catch. Derek listened with patient amusement, his eyes warm with affection.
"He's something else. You two are lucky," Derek observed, his gaze on George.
"Sure we are," Michele said, his hand finding Hazel's beneath the table.
Maya joined them. "Nathan's asleep? He was so cranky earlier. I thought he'd never calm down."
"He just needed his mother. Thank you for handling both of them," Hazel said, her voice soft.
"Anytime. That's what best friends are for," Maya replied.
Soon it was time for Maya and Derek to leave.
George was the most upset, his lower lip jutting out in a pout that made all of them laugh. "No go! George wants Maya to stay! Maya play!"
Maya knelt down, her hands cupping George's face. "I'll come back soon, sweetheart. I promise. And next time, I'll bring you a new toy car. Okay?"
George's pout softened, his eyes brightening. "New car?"
"Brand new. The fastest one I can find," Maya confirmed.
George's grin was immediate. "Okay. Maya come back soon. George wait."
Hazel crossed to Maya, pulling her friend into a tight embrace. "Thank you for everything."
Maya hugged her back. "You deserve it all, Hazel. You and Michele. You've built something beautiful. I'm so proud of you."
Derek shook Michele's hand. "Let's do this again soon. Maybe without the six-month gap."
Michele's laugh was warm. "We'll see. With two kids, it's hard to predict anything."
"I know," Derek replied, his grin knowing. "But it's worth it. Every chaotic minute."
They waved from the doorway, Maya and Derek disappearing down the drive. George pressed his face against the glass, his small hand waving frantically.
"Bye, Maya! Bye, Derek! Come back soon!" he called, his voice high and earnest.
Hazel watched him, her heart full to bursting. She felt Michele's arms wrap around her from behind, his lips pressing to her head.
