Chapter 58
Alyssia
~ 2 Weeks Later ~
“Calm down baby. Everything’s going to be just fine. I promise” assures Zac as we continued to sit within his car. My heart racing as the butterflies dance within me. A piece of me nervous about today’s doctor appointment.
“But… What if Dr. Harper finds something else completely wrong with the baby aside from telling us the gender?”
“Then we’ll handle it together. Your not alone in this remember, I’m here for you always. Always will.”
His words warming me like a small comfort that only Zac knew how to do.
Zac gentle when taking his hand before laying it across my lap. Our appointment in 10 minutes and I couldn’t afford to freak out. My eyes closing as I slowly began taking deep breaths. Zac only speaking once sure I was fine.
“You good now baby?”
“Yes. Thanks to you.”
“Anytime. Now then, let’s go. Time to see our child again and finally know the gender. Then, once we know, we’ll celebrate. How’s that sound? Does that sound like fun?”
“Yes. Very much.”
Zac then quick to climb from the car. His body quick in rounding the vehicle and towards the passenger side in which he opens. His hand waiting for mine in which I take. Zac careful when helping me out. The two of us then heading inside.
~ Hospital Room ~
“Hello Alyssia, so good to see you again.”
“So good to see you too, Dr. Harper.”
“Your sweet. Now then, hop up here and we’ll begin the appointment. Zac if you’d like, you can stand here, that way you’ll be able to see the baby too.”
“Okay.”
Dr. Harper simply smiling while Zac and I both move to where she asked. Me laying upon the bed near the ultrasound machine, while Zac stood against my right, his hand holding mine. Dr. Harper quick to approach once we’re both settled.
“Now then, I’m going to have you start by lifting up your shirt. Once you do, your free to relax. Just remember that the procedure is completely normal, like always, so no need to worry, okay.”
Her words always reassuring, even as she goes about adding the gel. The gel cold as she then glides the wand along my belly. Zac and I both silent as the doctor works her magic. Her other hand clicking a few buttons upon finding the baby before explaining on what she saw. Her voice assuring us that the baby was healthy and perfectly fine.
“Okay… the moment of truth.”
At the mention of that does my breath catch against my chest. My throat tightening. My eyes locked upon the screen as Dr. Harper works on finding the gender. A smile soon rising when she finally does.
“Congratulations. Your both having a beautiful baby boy.”
The words happy and healthy along with beautiful, the only words I needed to hear. My eyes quick to find Zac’s. Zac looking to me with endless love. His eyes wet at knowing we’re having a boy.
“Thank you… Doctor.”
“Of course. I’ll give you both time to process the information. So please, don’t feel rushed to leave. Take your time. And like always Alyssia, I’ll see you at your next appointment.”
Dr. Harper then quick to stand before leaving the room. My doctor quick in giving us space as we continued looking to where our baby sat along the monitor. Tears beginning to rise as everything slowly starts to hit. Zac quick to notice as he works on wiping the tears. His voice gentle when speaking.
“What’s wrong baby?”
“Noth… Nothings wrong. I’m just happy. That’s all.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yes daddy, I’m sure.”
Zac a little unsure of my answer but doesn’t push. Zac letting me enjoy the moment a little longer before helping me clean up. Zac swift in grabbing a cloth before wiping away the gel.
Once wiped and clean, do the two of us finally leave the room. Zac still holding my hand as the two of us head towards the receptionist. The lady at the desk super helpful in checking us out before helping me schedule my next appointment.
“Alright Alyssia, your all set. Dr. Harper will see you in about 3 weeks, otherwise your all set. Again, congratulations on your little bundle of joy. You’ll both make great parents.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course. Any time. But remember, should anything happen between now and then or you have any questions, be sure to call us too.”
“I will, thanks.”
With that said, we share one final goodbye with the lady at the desk before turning to leave. Zac gentle and slow when leading me back towards the car.
~ A Few Minutes Later ~
“So… any thoughts on what you’d like to have for dinner tonight, baby?”
Zac and I both entering the apartment. The news about our child still simmering within me that I really wanted to tell somebody other than Zac. Not that Zac wasn’t top priority because he was, I just wanted to tell somebody else.
“Can we invite Annabel and Sam? I really want to tell Annabel the news.”
My eyes pleading when looking to Zac. Zac having promised me prior to the appointment that if things went really well we could celebrate. So what better way to celebrate, then to celebrate with friends.
Zac and I having briefly talked about god-parents on the way home one day, that I decided who better to ask, then Annabel and Sam. Our two best friends. A piece of me knowing that should anything happen to me or Zac, that Annabel and Sam would do whatever they could to ensure our child was safe.
