~ Mid-Day ~
It’s now about lunchtime when the bell finally rings. Now signaling that classes were done and students were able to leave. My belly grumbling at being so hungry. A small giggle rising at how impatient my child was being.
My hands quick to pack up when suddenly I hear my name being called. My heart suddenly racing only to calm down, now realizing it was Annabel. Annabel now standing beside me.
“Girl, hurry up. It’s lunchtime and I’m starving over here.”
Her choice of words at describing how she felt making me laugh. “Seriously? Aren’t you always hungry?”
“Yeah? And? What’s your pointe?”
“Nothing, just thought I ask.”
“Like you really had to ask, of course I’m hungry. I don’t stay curvy by not eating. Now hurry up, before all the good spots are taken.”
“I’m working on it, just wait a minute.”
Annabel now rolling her eyes before pausing. Her eyes scanning the now empty room. “Um.. where’s… you know… Mia?” Annabel aware of our newfound friend, our secret friend.
“She’s blending in. She was told under direct orders by Zac to follow without being seen, so I’m pretty sure she’s somewhere close.”
Just then, as if she knew she was magically summoned does Mia slowly appear. Her body pressed casually against the door of the room. Her eyes watching us carefully. “You two ready for Lunch?”
“O.M.G. YES.”
Annabels flare for dramatics enough to make Mia smile. My phone buzzing which draws my attention. Curious as to who it could be since only a select few people knew it. Those being Zac, Sam, Annabel, My doctor and now, of course, Mia since she was the one in charge of protecting me when Zac couldn’t.
“Whose that?” asks Annabel who also heard the buzz.
“Not sure, let’s find out.”
Quick to see who it was, do I carefully grab my new phone, a new iPhone 17, a pro max. Zac spoiling me again. My old one being a busted up piece of junk that served it’s purpose. My eyes quick to see a message from Dr. Harper’s Office.
“Oh, it’s just Dr. Harper.”
“Oh? What they say?”
“Just reminding me about my 14 week prenatal visit. Zac and I both hoping to know the gender this time so we can plan accordingly when moving forward.”
“That’s amazing girl. I’m so happy for you. Truly. Nobody deserves this more than you.”
“Thanks. Now then, let’s get you fed before you die or worse, collapse from being malnourished.”
Annabel just laughing at the words. The two of us soon leaving the room while Mia follows behind us closely. Mia always aware of our surroundings and who we passed along the halls.
~ Lunchroom ~
“Holy cow batman…. This place is completely packed today. You sure you wanna eat here? We could always go to one of the nearby cafés around campus,” offers Annabel, concern rising at how busy the cafeteria was suddenly.
My own concern rising as I lay a hand against my little food monster. My eyes scanning the room. The ideal of eating at one of the local cafés more appealing then there, not wanting to risk running into Brian or worse Lyra, the schools biggest gossip queen.
“Yeah, let’s go. Before Brian magically see’s me or worse Lyra.”
“Girl, say no more. I’ve got you. Promise.”
A grateful smile quick to rise as Annabel and I both quickly leave the room. The two of us heading for the outside and to where the local café sat. Cafés that both Annabel and I visited frequently when we didn’t want to deal with students.
~ Panama Bliss Café ~
The moment we reach the Panama Bliss Café; is the moment we could truly relax. The place a lot less crowded than school. Annabel and I both able to find a decent size booth before the three of us sit. Our waitress soon coming to offer us menus.
“Hello, my name’s Izzy and I’ll be serving you today. What can I get you all?”
“I’ll have a strawberry banana smoothie please.”
“Perfect, and for you two lovely ladies?”
“I’ll have coffee, black.”
“And I’ll have your mixed berry smoothie.”
“Perfect. I’ll put these right in for you and come back once you’ve had a chance to look over the menus.”
“Awesome, thank you Izzy.”
“Of course.”
Izzy true to her word as she moves to handle the drinks while giving us a few minutes to look over the menu. Everything looking delicious but knew better than to overdo it. Izzy soon back with the drinks. Izzy quick to pass them out before speaking once more.
“Are you all ready to order or do you need some more time?”
“Nope. I think we all know what we want, right?”
“Yep.”
“Perfect. Then what can I get you?”
Izzy now quick in jotting down food orders before moving to place them with the kitchen. My eyes quick in scanning the place. The café slightly different then a few of the others. My mind quick to remember Zac.
Shit. I needed to tell him about our doctor’s appointment or else he couldn’t come with. My fingers quick to send him a message. Nothing too fancy since I was sitting in public. Just a reminder of the upcoming appointment. The one coming up in about 2 weeks.
My tiny butterflies back, the thought of having either a boy or girl a little exciting.
