Chapter 128
Logan's POV.
The car tires scream over the asphalt as I drive into the manor. Hastily, Lester and I alight from the car, slamming the doors shut.
My gaze roams around the manor as the guards and patrolling officers begin to come our way, guns pointing directly at us.
This was their plan all along. The fucking Slayers. Lester rounds the car until his back slams against mine, making us one against our enemies.
The men are uncountable, poised to strike.
Lester's breaths permeate my ears as we both take in the advancing enemies.
"What should we do, alpha?" He questions, rage seething beneath his skin.
They took Rain. They took my Luna.
Darkness crawls the edges of my vision as I imagine what pain she must be suffering.
No, I can't let these men win me. I can't let them take the gift of the goddess to me-- my mate.
Rage spurred to the surface, I growl, "Kill them!"
At that, Lester and I roar and shift Into wolves before the men. Then the carnage begins.
Roaring into the dark sky, we pounce on the men. The ratata of gunshots ring into the night sky.
I dodge every bullet coming my way whilst I aim and attack.
Bones crumble under my fangs, blood spurting and splashing over the cobblestone.
"Ahhhh!!" Lester's wolf snarls lethally, jumping over the pile of dead men beneath him to attack the others.
He whisks into the air, his maw bared. Viciously, Lester's fangs dip into the wrist of the man before him, trying to pull his trigger and shoot.
The grating sound of bones ripping apart flares in my ears as Lester rips out his hand.
While the man bounces around, crying, Lester dives up and sinks his teeth into the man's heart.
A ribbon of red liquid stains the ground and his heart gets detached from his ring of veins and muscles. The fellow falls with a thud on the ground.
A distant angry snarl echoes and as I turn, I see the man rushing towards me with a dagger in his hand.
I hurtle forward to meet him midway and I attack. Paws sinking into his ribs. I drag out his flesh and veins, the gore filtering over the ground.
A blast of bullets echoes, coming like rain from all directions.
I try to dodge but unfortunately, one hits my hind leg. I let out a wounded cry at the blast of pain. Hard breaths carving out of my chest.
Fucking silver and wolfsbane.
An expectant smile engulfs my attacker's face, thinking he has gotten me with that direct shot.
I veer around, Blade erecting on all fours, eyes narrowed. Releasing a thunderous howl, I march toward him. The ground beneath me quakes as I race forward.
Seeing my strength is still very much in place, the man turns on his heels, attempting to run but my outstretched paws grab onto his clothes.
Fiercely, I tug him backward and he lands on his back, sputtering blood as his head connects with the cobblestone.
I shove my legs over his pattering chest, standing over him in all my glory.
His eyes flick close at the lethal sight of me.
"Please...." A warbled cry escapes him. Hearing those words of entreaty only fuels my hunger for his blood.
I know this will be exactly the same words Rain said. Yet no none of those vile men took pity on her.
At the thought of that, I sink my paws into his chest, breaking the barrier of flesh until I reach the barricades of his heart.
With a dangerous huff, I pull the organ away, even as the fucker cries, blood marring my furs.
Discarding the piece of shit, I scan my eyes around, surprised to see more men coming into the manor, guns with silver and wolfsbane bullets pointed toward us.
When a bullet flies into the air, aiming for Lester while he's tearing into the neck of one of the initial men, I leap into the air and snag the bullet with my fangs.
Dust and steel explode in my mouth as I crush the bullet into pieces, turning to face the men.
Obvious fear lurks in their gazes as they watch me, comprehending what just happened.
Lester comes to my side by the time all the squads loaded RPGs are fastened towards us.
I can bet my life the fucking weapon contains silver and wolfsbane grenades.
Lester tenses beside me upon seeing that.
"Alpha, what are we going to do?" He asks hastily through the mind-link.
My murderous gaze is on the men while I respond to Lester through the mind-link.
"Hurry up inside, get Tiago while I create a distraction,"
"Noted!" He quips back and with speed, he starts for the inside of the mansion.
Distant, fearful cries ring in the air, certainly coming from the maids as they set their eyes on Lester while he approaches.
My beta releases a growl that sends the women fleeing and bound into the manor.
As I'm about to gaze back at the line of patrollers with weapons, they squeeze out grenades from the RPGs.
An earth-shattering blast echoes as I'm thrown backward from the impact of it.
Dusts kick up into the air, carving into my vision and plunging Into my heart. Shards of bruises impale my skin, staining my furs with blood.
But that's the most they can do- fucking bruise me.
As the cloud of dust clears and my wolf stands at its full height before the men, their eyes round into saucers.
Murmurs break out amongst them. I use that moment of distraction to attack. This time, I don't relent.
I kill them like a man with no soul. Well, I've none with me now. They took her somewhere- a place unknown to me.
But I shall find her and I shall retrieve my soul- Rain.
As the bloodbath tolls around me, Lester shoves out of the manor with barely conscious Tiago on his wolf's back.
"I...found him knocked out..." Lester mind-links.
"The fucking Slayers..." I bite out through the link.
Lester nods, swallowing as Tiago sputters incoherent words.
"Time to leave," is my quiet growl, and obliging, Lester and I hightail it out of the manor, leaving the carnage behind.
This...is only the beginning.
Bounding through the trees with blinding speed, we head for the mansion.
The very moment we arrive, the healer gets to work, rushing around to treat Tiago.
"Can the wolfsbane be drained out of his systems?" I ask, watching as Tiago's face turns ashen.
Winces of pain escape his closed lips. His body bucks as blood dribbles out from his ears.
"If only he was brought in earlier, alpha. I'm afraid the wolfsbane has only saturated his body." The healer blabbers, squeezing out liquid from his herbs and dripping into Tiago's mouth.
Tension crowds the room like a cloud on a gloomy day. The sense of foreboding arises as the servants in the house hurry around, the humans, amongst them, scared to see our wolf forms.
Lester lounges on a sofa, catching his breath as a grimace decorates his face.
I pace the length of the space, my head bugged with thoughts on where they could've taken Rain too.
Amidst my meandering, I feel a shaky hand grab my leg. Shocked, I look down to see Tiago.
His eyes are empty of emotions. His lips dry and wan.
"Al...pha..." He croaks out. I lean down to his level so I can hear him well.
"Tiago, you're safe now..." I start but his croaky words interrupt me.
"They...took...her..."
Fuck, I know. I fucking know.
I only hold his hand, my heart surging with rage.
"I know what they did..."
"Save her, alpha. They...plan to kill her...soon."
The emotions I'm struggling to rein in moisten my eyes. They plan to kill her. What was I expecting? A caress at Rain's back for being a lycan?
Hell, those motherfuckers will never learn to accept us for who we're. They want us dead so they can rule our world and theirs, but I can't let them.
As Tiago's consciousness eludes him, I let go of his hand and rise.
If there's someone who knows where those men took Rain, it has to be Ivy.
Growling at the occurrence, I leap into action.
I'm going to hunt you down, Ivy. Wherever you're in the world...
I swear to myself as I exit the mansion to begin my hunt for the vampire leader.
TBC.
