Chapter 29
I stood tall beside my father, greeting each country's king with a tight smile. I was dreading needing to see him so soon, but I was also a little excited as well. I silently cursed myself out, wondering why I was so attracted to the man and why I couldn't get him out of my mind. We weren't dating, we didn't have some dramatic break up or awful fight, so why am I like this? Why do I care so much about what had happened? I never bothered myself with love and this being the main reason, I start to fall only for something bad to happen. Most of the time it evolves being rejected again and again, my heart being thrown onto the ground before me. Every attempt to become close with a male and try to form some sort of relationship would only end with a mangled heart. I don't even know why I still try, maybe relationships aren't meant for me, really, I'm meant to be single for the rest of the lonely and sad life.
Jeeze, can you be even more negative about yourself?
"Ah, King Obsidian, how are you feeling?" My father's voice suddenly sounded, bringing me back to reality.
Obsidian barely glanced at me as he answered my father, he quickly returned my bitter greeting before heading towards the meeting. My father gently squeezed my shoulder, giving me a little comfort. Once the last few came in, we quickly closed the front doors and headed to the conference room ourselves. I quickly sat beside Lin, my entire body becoming stiff when Obsidian sat beside me. My heart picked up the pace, pounding against my chest with apprehension. I couldn't focus on what my father was saying he started the meeting, my mind turning into complete mush as his scent seduces my nose. It was as if him being here woke every sense in my body, causing my brain to go haywire with an insane amount of emotions. Taking a deep breath, I forced myself to pay attention to calming myself down, telling myself I needed to listen to what my father and the others were saying. It took me a good ten minutes before I felt in control again, shoving the thought of Obsidian to the back of my mind despite him being right beside me.
"We haven't found who the traitor is unfortunately, we have basically no information to go off of," my father explained. "While I would love to find out who he or she is, we cannot spend much more time on the matter. I'll still be very strict with who is now going to be included in our meetings, those who are not essential will be removed from any lists."
"Very well, have we gained any new information?" someone asked.
My father nodded, "Obsidian and my daughter were attacked by vampire/werewolf hybrids. They're quite amazing creatures, but extremely dangerous. They were created by the hunters, but I'm not sure why they set those two loose. I'm assuming, to test it out to see if they're able to take us down. We aren't sure how many there are or where they're getting the DNA from to create them, but we need to start taking extra precautions."
"Do we know how to kill them?"
"Silver still kills them, but as you know, it's nearly impossible for us to carry around pure silver. We are able to break their necks and kill them that way, Obsidian's lead doctor is doing studies on their bodies."
"Obsidian, have you found out anything new?" another questioned, earning Obsidian's cold glare.
Obsidian leaned back in the chair, shaking his head, "If I did, he would have already told you."
"How are we so sure the traitor isn't one of us?" The man sneered, returning Obsidian's irritated stare.
My father frowned, "I'm guessing you're insinuating that Obsidian is the traitor?"
"He doesn't seem to give a shit if any of us die."
I raised an eyebrow, I couldn't help but let out a soft laugh, immediately pissing the other king off further. His eyes turned a shade darker as his angry eyes landed on me, holding me with his gaze.
"Is something funny, Princess Sylvia?" He sneered.
I smirked, "How the hell would Obsidian be the traitor if he was captured and tortured with me? Also, add in I was in his pack for an entire week helping. If he was the traitor, he would have killed me by now and I'm sure, wouldn't have been badly beaten by the hunters."
"Unless it was part of the plan."
"That would be a ridiculous plan then. Obsidian is an ass, but I highly doubt he would come up with such an obvious and idiotic idea," I retorted. "Quit being ignorant, we don't have time for this nonsense. What we need to do is train our warriors on fighting the hybrids until we find other weaknesses in them. If any of you want to risk working with silver to form weapons we can use, then be my guest. But I highly suggest we train harder and have larger patrols. We need to keep a lookout for anything suspicious. I believe they're using rogues to create these monsters."
The man stared at me in disbelief as I held his glare, refusing to back down to such a dull minded fool. He clenched his jaw but didn't say anything else as he broke eye contact. Smiling in triumph, I nodded at my father to continue.
My dad cleared his throat, "Well, I believe my daughter covered what I was going to say. Anyone have any other ideas on how we can handle these hybrids?"
There was a murmur among us, but no one could come up with anything. While using silver would be a great advantage, especially since the hunters wouldn't expect that, it was dangerous. Even touching silver has it burning our skin and draining our energy, being around so much of it would most likely weaken us. We don't have the time to experiment with it and jeopardize our chances by dwindling the numbers of members in our packs. Once we were all dismissed, I quickly left the room, not wanting to give Obsidian the chance to talk to me after I defended him. While the man pissed me off, I won't allow some idiot to accuse him of being a traitor. He cares for his kingdom and packs just as much as we do, if not more. Whoever is giving information to the hunters is someone who either wants more power or isn't a full werewolf and wants to see us all burn.
