Chapter 54: June’s POV

June’s POV

It’s a simple process if he tries to refuse me. I am just going to make sure that I find a way to report him to the authorities. I already have footage of him threatening me.

“You would leave me no choice, but to let this video out,” I replied to him without hesitation and fear.

He looked at Whitney, then back at me.

That was when I knew that he had suddenly lost the confidence inside of him. He didn’t know what else to say because he was confused. I never thought I would be able to get such a clip that could get him into trouble.

There was something that he didn’t know. He had no idea that I had always been a smart person, and the only reason I was playing it cool with him was that I didn’t want him to feel bad or make him feel bad, especially since I was spending most of my time at work.

“We have rules and regulations that govern this place,” the HR manager said as he walked in, his footsteps clicking against the floor. “Threatening the life of your colleagues is a crime and you will have to sign some documents.”

Before Declan and Whitney could even explain themselves, he brought out his phone and made a phone call. I didn’t know who he was calling, but I knew that it had something to do with what was going on.

The call was brief and the moment he finished, he walked towards us. “The lawyer will be here in a short time, and I am going to make sure I get to the end of this.”

It was supposed to make me feel better, but it didn’t. I began to regret it because I could have stopped the whole argument earlier, and it would not have come to this.

I didn’t want to continue if I didn't, especially with Declan and Whitney, who can be so ruthless at times.

“It doesn’t have to get to this point,” Declan tried to explain, but the HR was ignoring him.

When Whitney tried to explain her own side, he quickly raised his hands and stopped her from even taking a step.

“I have seen the video earlier and I know exactly what is happening here. Mr. Lucien also mentioned a part where he saw you bullying June.” he pointed his hand towards Whitney.

It was there that I knew where everything was coming from. It was actually Lucian, who had reported the case. But I told him not to say anything.

Argh…

There was nothing I could do at that moment. I just had to sit and watch.

A few minutes later, the lawyer walked inside, holding a briefcase on his side.

“I came as quickly as possible,” he said, and walked towards the home of the desk, dropping his briefcase on top.

We could have actually gone to his main office, but I just don’t know why he decided to do everything in the middle of the general office where everybody was.

He brought out some papers and dropped them on the desk. “I drafted this as soon as possible. I hope it’s fine with everyone, especially with the parties involved.”

“They don’t have an option,” Lucien walked inside, his face filled with an aura and the look in his eyes was something I couldn’t even resist. “Let them sign the papers.”

“You have no right to tell me what to do,” Declan immediately challenged him.

“We will see about that,” Lucian replied immediately and found himself a quiet corner.

They couldn’t even fight any longer. They just collected the papers and signed them immediately.

I signed as well, but it was fine.

Whitney tried to leave halfway through, but Declan stopped her.

He needed her to stay. To share the blame.

And for once… she couldn’t run from it. I stood there the whole time, watching.

I was just standing because I wanted to see how it was going to end. Because I wasn’t even breaking, it was a blast for me.

When it was completely done. With a cold expression, Declan immediately handed me the signed documents. I looked carefully into his eyes and noticed that something was missing.

Power. He didn’t have that anymore and Whitney. I hope she gets changed as my supervisor.

But then, I was enjoying every bit of her drama, even though I wasn’t really comfortable. Sometimes it makes me work even harder and gets me stronger than I used to be.

“I believe you have gotten what you wanted,” Declan said in a loud voice

“No,” I responded almost immediately after I had collected the papers from him. “I just got what you took away from me.”

Without hesitation, I quickly turned around and walked towards the door. Each step I took felt like everything was finally stable, but I knew it wasn’t.

It was just the beginning.

I just felt relieved at that moment and it was fine.

Just before I got to the door, I heard my name behind me. “June!”

I stopped immediately, but I did not look back and my hand was already on the handle of the door. I recognized the sound of my voice even without looking back.

Lucien.

I turned slowly. He was standing there, leaning against the wall, arms crossed.

Watching.

He had been there longer than I realized.

Of course, he had.

I had thought that he wasn’t going to talk to me after he confronted Declan and decided to stay in a quiet corner. But I wasn’t shocked either when he called me.

“You really did nice out there.” He snapped and started to walk towards me.

It sounded like he was very happy with what I did. But it was exactly what he wanted, and he was part of the orchestrator. He practically made everything possible, especially with the fact that he had to report to HR.

There was no pity in his voice when he spoke to me earlier.

“I did exactly as you said, and I don’t need to feel pity for anybody,” I responded to him.

“I can see that.”

He finally came closer to me and was just standing in front of me. “Do you need anything?” he asked. “Just let me know and I will make sure I grant your wish.”

It was a simple question and I know that he wasn’t offering to fix things. He was just trying to make me a little bit more comfortable, and he wasn’t trying to step into my life without permission because I had warned him earlier.

I shook my head slowly. “No,” I said. “I’m good.”

And I meant it.

“You are not going to change,” he smiled and took another step closer.

I wanted to move, but I was still stuck with him. I was just looking at his eyes. How about granting him his wish to have dinner with him?

“Meet me in the evening, and I will make dinner for both of us,” I muttered and walked away.
