Chapter 44
**Alpha Romeo’s POV**
“Knock Knock, I brought you a fresh cup of coffee” I look up from the various maps and reports on my desk to see my beautiful Luna standing in the doorway to my office with a steaming mug. As she places the cup on my desk I reach out to her and pull her onto my lap.
Wrapping her up in a tight hug, her back hits my chest and I bury my head in the crook of her neck, finding comfort in her floral scent. Anne reaches over her shoulder and pats my head softly. “Romeo, your beard is tickling me, let me go”
“I need to hold you for a few more minutes my darling” I mumble against her skin. Now more than ever I need her by my side. The months she spent at Red Dawn with our baby were almost torturous but I knew that they were safe and it was helping Roman. Now though after just barely getting them back our child was taken away.
It’s in a wolf’s nature to be possessive and protective of his family, and it’s even more intense when you make that wolf an Alpha. I fear if I let Anne out of my sight I will lose her, just as I lost our baby. Just the thought of how I was unable to protect Roman has my wolf scratching at me to be released so he can destroy all in his path.
“You came to the office early this morning Honey, did you get any new leads?” I can hear the hope in her voice and it kills me to know I don’t have the answer she wants. The morning patrol caught onto a scent that doesn't belong to a Silver Eclipse wolf in the woods near the Beta house. Usually I would just send Ji to investigate it but he has been on edge lately, I think this is bringing up bad memories.
So I went to investigate myself but there was nothing there, whoever intruded on our land was long gone and didn’t leave a trail to follow. After coming up with no new information I have been in my office combing over all the information I already have to see if there is anything I have missed.
Before I can break my Luna’s heart with the information that we are no closer to bringing our son home the door to my office swings open so hard it crashes into the wall behind it, leaving a hole in the plaster where it collided with the handle. The person behind the destruction to my office is my son in law, Adam who has anger rolling off him in waves and black eyes from his wolf taking control.
Yanking him in by the collar of his shirt, Adam throws my Beta to the floor in front of my desk. Jiang remains on his knees where he landed keeping his gaze locked on my rug as Adam stalks up behind him looking like he is ready to kill the man who is like a brother to me. The raging boy pulls Jiangs terrified face up to meet mine with a firm grip on his hair. As angry as Adam might be I cannot allow him so disrespect Jiang like this so I gently move Anne off my lap and stand so I can step in before there is blood shed “Adam, I understand we are all on edge lately, and you will lead this pack soon but you need to respect the packs current leaders so release your Beta”
“I found our mole Alpha” Adam spits, dropping his hold on Jiang and finding a seat by my desk as if we are about to start discussing battle strategies. I feel frozen, I have known Jiang since we were boys, we have been brothers for almost as long as I can remember, there is no possible way that he could be the one feeding information to Dark Claw.
“Is that why Estelle stopped Adam from helping Roman that day? You both knew what they had planned from the very beginning” Anne say’s able to process the situation faster than I can. Then her words hit me, it was always the plan to take Roman and my Beta helped it happen.
“It’s not like that, Anne I swear, Romeo you have to believe me we were only doing it to protect Qiang. Dark Claw has my boy and they were going to kill him if I didn’t help them” Jiang pleads from the floor as I close the distance between us. I grab the front of his shirt and bring him so close I can hear his erratic heartbeat.
“If you had just told us that your son was alive and needed help I would have burnt their pack to the fucking ground, but instead you betray us, betray the child that refers to you as his Uncle Ji. now unless you tell me exactly where to find our boys I will kill you very very slowly” releasing his shirt I push him back and walk over to my mate who is trying to hold back her tears.
Wrapping my arms around her again for a hug I let her touch calm me down before I shift in my office and kill Jiang before I get any information out of him. “Adam Honey, do me a favour and bring Estelle here, us ladies need to have a little chat”
“Of course Luna”
“Please, Stelle doesn't know anything, neither do I, they never told me anything, they just gave me photos of Qi, and would tell me safe places to search so I wouldn't arouse any suspicion but my mate and I don't know anything and she is so fragile. Please just leave her out of this” Jiang rambles from the floor, the scent of his fear filling the room. I want to feel sorry for him and Estelle but if they only asked I would have helped them no matter the cost. Instead they let Roman be taken from us, and who knows if my little prince’s heart is still beating.
