Chapter 334: Sent to a Psychiatric Hospital
Elizabeth stood in the doorway, face drained of color.
She'd been eavesdropping outside.
Hearing that Adrian and Serena had registered their marriage, she couldn't stay calm anymore.
Her face white, she stared hard at Faust. "What did you just say? Adrian and Serena... already registered?"
Faust nodded coolly. "Yes."
Elizabeth suddenly lost it. She rushed over like a madwoman, grabbing Faust's arm and screaming furiously, "You're lying! You're lying to me, right? How could Adrian register with Serena? That bitch Serena—what gives her the right? Is she worthy?"
She screamed and raged, completely breaking down.
Victor was already furious. Thinking that all of today's disasters were because of Elizabeth—
He angrily slapped Elizabeth hard across the face, pointing at her and cursing, "You idiot! How many years have we given you? How much money have we invested in you?
You couldn't win Adrian's heart, and then you dare pull that stupid stunt! The entire Carrington family has been dragged down by you, and you still dare make a scene? How did I raise such an idiot!"
Elizabeth fell to the ground, completely stunned by the blow.
She covered her swollen, painful face, staring at Victor in disbelief. "Dad, you hit me?"
Victor didn't want to look at her again. He called for servants directly. "Send her to a psychiatric hospital. Let her receive proper treatment and calm down."
When he said this, Victor was exceptionally calm. His face showed no trace of fatherly affection toward Elizabeth, only disgust.
Elizabeth was terrified. She clutched the study door desperately, screaming at Victor, "I won't go to a psychiatric hospital! I'm not sick! I won't go!"
The servants dragged her out.
She screamed hysterically.
This crazed appearance was nothing like the glamorous image of the Carrington family's young lady.
Mrs. Carrington rushed over at the sound. Seeing Elizabeth like this, she was frightened.
Though she didn't know what had just happened, thinking of recent events, she knew Victor was at the peak of his rage.
She didn't dare try to persuade him, only her daughter. "Beth, listen to your father. Be good and calm down for a while. I'll find a chance to talk to your father later."
Elizabeth's last shred of hope vanished. She screamed in disbelief, "No! No! Mom, save me! Save me, Mom..."
What answered her was Mrs. Carrington's silence.
To be frank, though the Carrington parents loved their daughter, all that love was built on a foundation of interests.
Especially with the things Elizabeth had done recently—they'd been disappointed repeatedly.
Mrs. Carrington still had some maternal affection. Victor had none left.
Elizabeth was dragged all the way to the car. Her shrill screams echoed throughout the entire villa.
In the study, quiet was restored.
Faust looked at Victor. "Uncle, are you really giving up on Beth?"
"She's still the Carrington family's daughter. The money invested in her can't go to waste. At least she has a pretty face. Keep an eye on the psychiatric hospital recently. Have them train her properly. When she's ready, bring her out and arrange a marriage alliance."
A marriage alliance was Elizabeth's final value.
"Yes!"
Faust agreed.
...
Meanwhile—
After leaving the restaurant, Adrian went straight back to his villa.
The villa gate opened.
Just as Harvey was about to drive in, a car horn sounded nearby.
Harvey looked over. "Mr. Locke, that looks like Ms. Rothwell's car."
Adrian saw it too.
He lowered his window, looking toward Sarah. "Ms. Rothwell, what a coincidence."
Sarah fell silent.
At his doorstep—what coincidence?
She didn't waste words. She simply pulled a tin box from the storage compartment and waved it in front of Adrian. "Serena's things. I'm delivering them."
Only then did Adrian open his door and get out to take it personally.
Sarah's tone was indifferent. "These were left at the Rothwell estate. They look pretty old. I don't know if they're still useful to her. Give them to her."
"Thank you."
Adrian accepted it.
Sarah nodded faintly and told Blake, "Drive."
Adrian returned to his car with the tin box.
As Harvey drove through the gate, he glanced back, very curious about what was in the box.
Then he met Adrian's cool gaze.
Harvey laughed dryly. "Ms. Rothwell is really ice-cold. Right at the door and she didn't even go in to see her own sister."
Adrian ignored him.
After entering the house, Adrian dismissed Harvey and took the tin box upstairs.
Serena was showering in the bathroom.
Adrian sat in the bedroom, looking at the tin box. It really was quite old.
The tin surface had faded. It must be from over ten years ago.
And Sarah had personally delivered it.
This morning, Serena's luggage had been sent by Sarah's people.
A small box, and she delivered it herself?
Adrian suddenly had an intuition—could the contents of this box be related to the secret Serena kept locked in her heart, unwilling to speak of?
Though she'd married him now, he still didn't know why she'd broken off their engagement back then.
Perhaps the answer was in this box.
He really wanted to open it.
But when he was about to, he felt it wasn't right. He couldn't snoop through her things.
He hesitated, then walked to the door and knocked on the bathroom door.
Serena thought he needed to use the bathroom. She turned off the water and said, "I'll be a while longer. If you need the bathroom, use another one."
She hadn't expected him back so soon.
"I'm not in a hurry. Sarah brought something for you. She wants you to see if it's still useful."
"What is it?"
Adrian paused. "How would I know?"
"Just leave it there. I'll look when I come out."
Adrian said nothing.
Serena was about to continue showering.
But she saw his shadow moving back and forth outside the door.
He hadn't left?
What did he want?
The thing was, she didn't know what Sarah had sent either.
Was he thinking she and Sarah were keeping secrets from him?
They were married now. There shouldn't be any barriers between them.
And if Sarah had given the thing to him, she probably wasn't worried about him discovering it.
Serena hesitated, then tentatively said, "How about you look at it for me?"
"Okay."
Adrian responded cheerfully and left.
In the bathroom, Serena watched the shadow disappear from the door and thought she'd guessed right.
She really didn't intend to hide anything from Adrian. Whatever.
She continued showering.
Adrian took the box to the living room and carefully opened the tin box...
