I Got You, Always (Part II)

I Got You, Always (Part II)

"Are you alright? I-I not mad that you told everyone about us being engaged.” She smiled into the video chat, "I'm happy."

"I'm glad, I thought you were going to skin me alive and yeah, I’m alright Doe.” He said, giving her a small smile. "How’re your ideas for the school going?”

Sabine stared at him, sensing something off, "Don’t change the subject Trouble. Let me in.”

He sighed, "That shit that reporter said pissed me off because it hurt and at this point I should be use to it. It just seems like everyone in the world can make mistakes, but me, any mistakes I make are forever held against me.” He placed his head into his hands, "Shit gets to me sometimes. I know it shouldn't, I have thicker skin than most, but it’s a lot of shit tied to my past. A lot of stuff I almost destroyed because I couldn’t stop getting high.” Hearing her silence, he looked up to see her packing. "What are you doing?”

"Coming to you.” She grabbed the phone, "I know you want to do this by yourself, and I SWEAR I’m proud of you….I also can’t help but point out that you’ve been fighting for me this entire time.” Her bottom lip quivered, "I-I want to fight for you too.”

"Doe.” He sighed, "I know you want to help but-” She appeared in front of him with her stuff before he could say another word.

"Shaddup,” She said, pulling him to her, "I’m here now, no take backs.”

Inhaling her, he felt a sense of peace as the pain of the day slowly subsided. "Thank you.” He said lowly, "Sometimes it’s hard for a man to admit when he’s having a hard time.”

She wrapped her arms around him, "I got you, always. Between us is forever a safe space.”

Hearing the commotion, Beemo walked into the room. His eyes brightened seeing Sabine, and his little book body raced to her. After embracing her in a hug, he tried his best to pretend that he wasn’t disappointed that she’d come alone. Sabine walked to the window and opened it and within seconds, Blaise flew inside.

He let out a huff, before glaring at Kai, "Really? A hotel in the heart of the city? You couldn’t pick something a little more covert. A big ass white owl gets a lot of attention.”

Kai shrugged, "Hey, I’ve gotten better, but I’m still egotistical you know this.” Laughing at the fume on the owl’s face, he twisted his lips, "Why didn’t you just poof here with Sabine?”

"Because your ass of a spellbook insists that he’s faster than me.”

Beemo shifted and retched his head back, "Okay, first of all. Hell-to the motherfucking-O to you too, you look absolutely iridescent. Second, them white feathers would be brown from my dust if we raced so hush your mouth.”

Blaise cut his eyes, "First, hello-that was rude of me sorry, I just needed to insult you because you look so good, I got nervous. Second, bring it on then kitty, kitty. Use all nine of them lives trying to keep up with me.”

Kai looked from one to the other, "Eh...are yall flirting or fighting?”

"Both,” Beemo said, his seethe at Blaise growing. Darting to the ten-story open window, he pointed out of it with his paw, "Well Hedwig, you coming?”

"WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU CALL ME?!” Blaise roared before darting towards the window, pushing Beemo from it.

"NO!” Kai shouted and raced to it. Looking out, he saw Beemo on the ground letting out expletives.

"PUSH ME OUT A DAMN WINDOW, BRING YOUR ASS HERE!”

Blaise laughed at Kai's panic, "Magic remember?” Flying from the window, the two took off into the night.

Exhaling, Kai turned to Sabine, "Yall really trying to give me a damn heart attack.”

Sitting on the bed, she let out a laugh before patting the space beside her. He sat and she leaned against him, "I have something for you.”

"Oh?” He said as he arched his brow. "What is it?”

Sabine placed her hands behind her back, and when she brought them forward again, she held up the book. "You remember this?”

Kai shook his head at the photo album, "How could I forget? That book brought me through a lot.” Taking it from her, he flipped through the pages, while lightly reading over the letters. "You are nasty.” He nudged her as he pointed to something she wrote.

"SHUT UP!” She said her face turning red, and she quickly turned the page.

Kai tilted his head at the new addition, "You wrote me a new letter?”

She bit the side of her lip, "Read it out loud okay?”

Kai nodded and turned his attention back to the words on the page, "I know we don’t know each other yet, but I’ve heard from many that you’re amazing. I have to believe that it’s true because mommy gets so excited whenever she talks about how strong, smart, kind, and thoughtful you are and how she knows you’ll make the best da-” a lump formed in his throat, as his face paled, “dad a kid could have. She told me that you’ll protect me the way you protect her, and that you’ll love me so deeply, there will be no doubt in my little mind that you do. She said that you'd show me how to be strong and gentle, and how to fight for others and myself. She even made me promise not to get too grossed out because she kisses you all the time. That it’s only because you pour so much love into her, it exudes from her and teaches her how to love you correctly.”

Kai wiped his eyes, and sniffled as he processed the words, "I don’t know much yet, but what I do know is what mommy and my three aunties told me things about you that others may not know. That underneath everything that others see, you’re really a man who's so quiet, you're louder than anyone. You demand the attention of any room lucky enough to have your presence. You went and retrieved the part of your heart that never knew, until she met you, that she’d somehow ended up at the wrong house. You’re a gentle fire, who burns every bit of pain from the past of others, even while still figuring out how to allow the birth of joy in your own future. Mommy said, my daddy, is a man who taught her the true meaning of how to love herself and others. I can’t wait to meet you. I can’t wait to learn all the lessons, and receive all the love I know you’ll give me.- Your Little Bean.”

And because he knew the stories of what his father had taught his sisters, Kai couldn’t help but break down. Pulling Sabine into his arms, he kissed her head and repeated over and over, “I’m going to be a dad?” unable to believe it himself.

She wiped her tears and shook her head yes, before pulling away and looking at him, "Listen to me, because I NEED you to fully grasp it this time. For every person trying to beat you down, you have an entire family that’s gonna always lift you up... us the most, I promise.”

Clashing his lips against hers, Kai placed his hand on her stomach. And then the man who wished more than anything to move on from the sins of his past, held onto his future and vowed to never look back again.
