Chapter 50: Forever Could Never Be Long Enough (Part I)

The Day of the Wedding

“Yall remember when Demetri old behind, was like-rawr I’m gonna totally destroy her and keep her hostage AND SHE WILL FEAR ME! and Alexus beat him around his own Castle like he was a burglar?” Sterling cackled hard as Demetri glared at him. “You the only person I know who had the stand your ground law enacted on them IN THEIR OWN DOJO! I'm surprise you're still good with the way that lamp aggressively tore into your noggin.”

“SHUT UP STERLING!” He hissed and Sterling put his hands up defensively.

“You know I’m just kidding-by the way, you look like a dream. DRACULA COULD NEVA!” Jerry rubbed his forehead and turned to Jordan.

“Does he ever quit?” Sterling sneered.

“That’s wha-“ He looked under his arm and decided not to chance it. “Never mind.”

“You nervous?” Elijah asked and Demetri shook his head no.

“More like, just like EXTREMELY excited, though I’m not quite sure if that my true feelings or the Kool-Aid.” Jordan laughed.

“Let's go Demetri Ric Flair Vamp” Demetri chuckled and gave himself one more look over before shouting.

“WOOO!”

--------------------------------------

“You ready Lil Bit?” Alexus grinned brightly at Terrence.

“Absolutely” She leaned onto his suited arm. “Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for my family and for Demetri.” Terrence kissed the top of her head.

“That’s what family’s all about right?” She nodded.

” Forever could never be long enough for me. To feel like I’ve had long enough with you…”

Her mother placed her hand on her cheek. “I’m so happy for you.” She whispered before walking down the aisle.

” Forget the world now. We won’t let them see. But there’s one thing left to do.”

Arms locked, Stacy and Jerry walked down, followed by Rachel and Elijah and Jordan and Sterling with Morgan. Sterling whispered into Demetri’s ear. “So you’re totally gonna fucking-“ He looked up. “Excuse me man upstairs, you know my heart.” Demetri snickered. “Yeah like I was saying. You’re definitely gonna cry when you see her. She looks beautiful.” Demetri felt a lump form in his throat. He couldn’t imagine it being possible that his Little One could look any more beautiful than she always did.

” Now that weight has lifted…”

“PLEASE STAND FOR THE ENTRANCE OF THE BRIDE”

Demetri's eyes trained to the doors of the church and he breathed in deep.

” Love has surely shifted my way…”

Alexus and Terrence turned the corner, and stood at the top of the long aisle. Her eyes teared the moment she saw Demetri cover his mouth as his tears fell.

” Maarryyyy me…today and every day.”

“Oh my God…” He murmured as she walked down towards him.

What had he done to become so fortunate to be given such a second chance at life? The little boy who no one wanted, had grown into a man who was surrounded by love. And as he looked at her, he knew she was the reason behind it all. The one who from the first moment he’d seen her, had awakened something in him. The one who’d showed him there was strength in vulnerability, not anger, the one who demanded that he tried. The one who taught him how to prune the tulips, and nurse to health, the rose that grew from the concrete. His little vampire that had his back, without him ever asking. The one who he could finally not hold onto as tightly when they slept, because he knew he’d never let her go again.

” Marrryyy me….if I ever get the nerve to say hello in this café, say you will…mhm…say you will...mhmm”

She was his Alexus. His Little One, his Devil Bat. The one who showed him how to make friends, and revealed he had one all along. The one that made him see that, that friend was more so much more. He was the dad he’d always wanted, and Demetri finally became the son, that he’d deserved. Demetri may not have always known what it meant to love, but he knew his heart was made for her. She’d loved him so fiercely, she made him see that he had to love himself the same. He wiped his eyes, and smiled at her, unable to look away. He’d never in a million years thought he would be so lucky. Because the day he’d made her leave, was the worse day of his life.

” You wear white and I'll wear out the words I love you and you're beautiful...”

And yet as he stood waiting for her to join his side, he now knew, it was something that needed to happen. It was their story, not anyone else’s and it may have been messy. It may have been full of pain, but it was also full of triumph and full of growth. And he would have never known, how complete he could truly be if Alexus hadn’t come and set fire to his shadow of a life. And birthed for him a place of peace, love, and safety, so that a boy who was once in survival mode, could grow into a man, who could reciprocate love.

” Together can never be close enough for me…to feel like I am close enough to you.”

Alexus tried her best not to cry at the sight of Demetri falling apart. But the truth was, she felt exactly the same. At the end of the aisle, waited for her, a man who healed her wounds, as he worked to heal his own. The man who from the moment he’d held her in his arms, sent electricity through her. He taught her to stand on her own two feet, even if at times she had to stand alone. He loved her so much, he’d learned how to ask for help to be better for her and himself.

"Now that the wait is over. And love has finally showed her my way..."

She was as much as his, as he was hers, and she would never forget it again. Because he’d loved her enough to let her go, when she couldn’t decipher the difference between what she wanted and what she needed. No, he wasn’t an Alpha or Beta, he wasn’t apart of a pack, Demetri was the Primus who’d been born with nothing, and yet still figured out how to give her so much. The one who’d seen her pain firsthand, and never shied away. The one who couldn’t grasp grief, but who still worked overtime to console her.

” Marrryyy me….if I ever get the nerve to say hello in this café, say you will…mhm…say you will...mhmm”

He was the one whose eyes reminded her of the first man who ever taught her how to love. He was her Blue Eyes, the one who always had her back, even when she pretended she didn’t need it. Demetri taught her to stop apologizing for being uniquely her, because he was uniquely him. And even when she hadn’t remembered him, her heart could never forget. Demetri reached out his hand, and she took it. As she joined him by his side. No second thoughts, no contemplation of running away. Alexus and Demetri said I do.
