Chapter 78: My dark knight
My entire body lightly trembled, still shocked after all just happened, sitting on the soft green grass, watching how my brother, Luc, Gabriel and the archangel who created me were still weirdly staring at me, frozen in their spots.
“Y-you’re...b-back...” My brother stuttered, blinking a few times, his bloodied hands lightly trembling at his sides.
My eyes darted around, following the horrifying trails of crimson liquid spluttered all over the place, finally noticing the huge gap lining in the ground like a boundary between Luc and us, my heart suddenly starting to pump faster and faster, deep anxiety rising within me.
“W-where’s Azrael?” I anxiously blurted out, expenctantly eyeing each one of them until I suddenly noticed Luc rise from his spot, taking an efortless leap over the endless pit, helping my brother also rise to his feet as well, his tone deadly serious as he uttered,
“Come on. We don’t have much time.”
Still confused, I wobbly rose up to my feet, only to suddenly stumble face first into a hard chest.
That same familiar sandalwood scent instantly invaded my nostrils, making me quickly realize exactly who was now standing right in front of me, my eyes meeting once again those chocolate with a ring of red ones once I looked up.
Warmly smiling down at me, his warm, bulky arms gingerly wrapped around me as he whispered,
“Come on, child. Let’s go save the world.”
And with a single whoosh, we were already darting towards the crimson sky, the cool breeze touching the bare areas of my skin making me involuntarily snuggle deeper in my creator’s warm chest, at the same time feeling that awfully familiar sensation creeping up inside me, remembering that young woman’s figure.
“What was my mother’s full name?” I suddenly found myself asking, those two specific words sounding so foreign in my ears as I said them out loud for the first time since I’ve found out about my true origins, consciously avoiding his gaze as I did so.
“Natalie Pierce.”
The stench of blood, combined with putrid and burning flesh wafted through the air, my eyes attentively following the trail of crimson and bodies as we smoothly glided through the air, my arms wrapping tighter around my father’s neck, struggling to keep the bile rising in my throat, small tears making their way down my cheeks at the gruesome sight.
People...Innocent people...
Burying my face in the crook of his neck, I choked back a small sob, fighting to stay strong and focus on our main task, though on the inside I ws already feeling like torn apart...
The dream...
It was really happening...
“We’re here,” He gently whispered, the soft thud of his boots landing on the hard concrete swiftly pulling me out of my trance-like state, easily placing me on the ground afterwards.
Lightly wobbling, I slowly turned around, my eyes ultimately landing on the four titan-like creatures just a few feet away from us, causing mayhem all over the place.
Horrifying...
That was the only word that could describe them, their monstruous appearance shaking me raw to the core as I shockingly watched them torture, destroy, and ultimately kill.
No...
Before I could realize what was happening, my legs were already carrying me on their accord straight towards them, my entire body suddenly burning with pure, unbridled rage.
“Stop.” The word firmly tumbled out my lips, my voice sounding so powerful, yet so...inhuman, also scaring me to no end, their every action suddenly taking a halt, all four of them slowly turning to face me.
Only once they did, my breath abruptly stopped in my throat, that paralyzing fear creeping up my spine once again as I attentively looked at each one of them.
Four slender, inhumanly tall figures stood before me, their different features perfectly describing what each one of them was created to do.
Rich blonde, long hair reached Conquer’s shoulders, perfectly aligning with his fae-like features, those oddly glowing emerald eyes coldly staring down at me, his extremely large body covered by a thick white robe now smeared with blood, the same liquid dripping down on the heated concrete from his huge sword.
Next came in line War, his amber eyes glowing like two eternal pits of fire, matching his equally red locks, framing a long, almost aristocratic-like face, his armor-clad body standing perfectly still as I examined him.
The third one was none other than Famine, with a deeply wrinkled face and sharp, razor-like teeth that can scare your very soul, his cloudy grey eyes blankly staring into nothingness, just like his entire appearance, reflecting nothing but deep sorrow.
And the last one...was my knight...
My dark angel...
Pitch black, soulless eyes emotionlessly stared right back into mine, unlike those blue ones I used to absolutely adore, pure white hair lightly falling over his forehead, shadowing those deathly pale, slender features, sending cold shivers running down my spine.
“Kneel.” That frightening voice escaped my lips once again, fierce and commanding, surprisingly forcing them all to do my bidding as they instantly dropped to their knees, their faces now being at the same level with mine.
What the hell is happening with me?
My body also seemed to slip out of my mind’s control as I involuntarily took another few steps, getting closer to the first creature and after a single touch on his forehead, he simply vanished into thin air, my own actions also scaring the hell out of me.
Oh god...
Same fate awaited the others two, simply disappearing after one touch, but once I reached him, my hands started to violently tremble, fighting with myself not to send him away too, hot tears already making their way down my cheeks as I stared back into those hollow, soulless pits, my heart constricting inside my chest with pure, raw pain.
“Fight it,” I shakily whispered, not daring to take a single step closer, only to receive no response.
“Please, fight it,” I tried yet again, chocking back a sob, watching how he continuously stared back at me, not moving a single muscle.
Oh no...please...
“Please...I know you’re in there...please Azrael...come back to me...” I begged between quiet sobs, my heart filling with utter despair as I realized nothing was going to change so I lastly fell on my knees, defeated, my head slumping forward, allowing my burning tears to fall to the ground.
Gone...He’s gone...
I started to cry even harder as I let that realization sink even deeper, tightly clutching my hands to my chest, small whimpers escaping my lips.
A sudden small sting on the inside of my left wrist instantly paused my mourning, leaving me utterly surprised and once I lightly stretched my hand to take a look at it, a small gasp escaped my lips as I noticed the faint glow swirling inside the almost faded mark, my eyes instantly darting up to look at him.
And once I did, my whole world seemed to stop for a moment, my breath momentarily leaving my lungs.
There he was.
My beautiful angel.
