Chapter 41: The search warrant
Lilly, Ethan, Aiden, and Jason stepped into the police station, their minds racing with the discovery they had made. They were met by Detective James, who was waiting for them in the lobby.
"Hey, what's going on?" he asked, his expression serious.
Jason sighed, “We may need to sit and talk. It is a long story.”
Once they sat down in the conference room, they all began the story of the explosion at the football game, Lilly seeing the stranger standing in the smoke, then finding out that Tiffany had a twin sister Brittany and finding her hidden out in the warehouse.
"We found something really crazy in the warehouse," Lilly said, her voice trembling with nervousness. "We were at the warehouse on the edge of town, and we found a secret room. It's filled with files and documents about us. She's been tracking our every move."
Detective James's eyes narrowed. "That's not good. Not good at all."
Jason pulled out the folder full of files. "We have evidence of her surveillance; it looks like she is trying to pin Tiffany’s death on us as a murder." Jason paused, “But I did find something worse on the way over here.” The other three looked at him confused. “I found a plan drawn out for her to kill the four of us by burning our house down with us in it.” Lilly gasped at Jason’s discovery; fear etched across her face.
The detective's eyes scanned the folder quickly before handing it back to Jason. "This is solid evidence. We need to get a search warrant for that warehouse."
Lilly nodded vigorously. "Yes, please. We can't let her get away with this."
Detective James pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "I'm going to get the paperwork started right away," he said. "In the meantime, can you tell me more about what you found?"
Lilly and Ethan explained everything, from the hidden room to the files on their personal lives. Detective James listened intently, his expression growing more serious by the minute.
When they finished, he nodded thoughtfully. "I'll get this warrant ready ASAP. In the meantime, I need you four to stay here and give formal statements."
Lilly and the guys exchanged a look before nodding in unison. They knew that this was a big and they needed to take all precautions.
Within the hour, they were seated in an interrogation room at the police station, answering questions and signing statements. Detective James was joined by several other officers, all of whom were determined to get to the bottom of Brittany's schemes.
As they spoke, Lilly couldn't help but think about all the times she must have been stalked and manipulated by Brittany. She felt a surge of anger and fear mixed in her chest.
But she also felt a sense of determination. She was not going to let Brittany get away with this. She was going to make sure that justice was served.
Finally, after what felt like hours, they finished their statements and were dismissed. Detective James patted Lilly on the back. "We're going to get her," he said firmly.
Lilly smiled grimly. She knew that it wouldn't be easy, but she was ready for whatever lay ahead.
Within the hour, the police obtained a search warrant for the warehouse. Lilly, Ethan, and Aiden watched anxiously as the officers set up a perimeter around the building.
"Let's move in," Detective James said, his voice low and commanding.
The team of officers stormed into the warehouse, followed closely by Lilly, Ethan, Jason, and Aiden. They began searching every nook and cranny, looking for any evidence that might link Brittany.
As they searched, they found more evidence of Brittany's surveillance and manipulation. There were hidden cameras and microphones throughout the warehouse, as well as files and documents detailing her plans to kill them and steal the locket back.
"I think we've got enough evidence to put her away for good," Detective James said, a smile spreading across his face.
Just then, one of the officers called out from deeper in the warehouse. "Detective James, we've found something!"
The group rushed over to find an officer holding up a small bag of explosives. "Looks like Brittany was planning to blow something up," he said grimly.
Lilly felt a shiver run down her spine. She had come close to disaster once before when Tiffany had tried to kill her with the locket's power. She knew that she had to be careful if she wanted to stay alive.
As they continued to search the warehouse, they found more and more evidence of Brittany's crimes. It seemed that she had been planning this operation ever since Tiffany died.
But despite the overwhelming evidence against her, Brittany was nowhere to be found. It was as if she had vanished into thin air.
"We'll keep searching," Detective James said grimly. "We'll find her."
Lilly nodded, knowing that it was only a matter of time before they caught up with Brittany once again...
And then, just as they were leaving the warehouse, Ethan suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"What's wrong?" Lilly asked him.
"I forgot something," he said, his eyes fixed on something outside.
Lilly followed his gaze and saw a figure standing across the street - a figure who looked uncannily like Brittany...
Lilly's eyes locked onto the figure across the street, her heart racing with a mix of fear and adrenaline. Ethan and Aiden followed her gaze, their faces equally tense. It was only the three of them outside. The police and Jason were still inside collecting more evidence.
"Who is that?" Ethan whispered.
Lilly didn't answer, her eyes fixed on the figure as it began to walk towards them. The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the street, making it difficult to make out the person's features. Where were the police when you needed them?
But as they drew closer, Lilly's heart skipped a beat and she felt like she needed to flee as fast as she could, but her feet were concrete stuck to the ground. It was Brittany and she held a gun in her hand pointed right at the three of them. One false move and they could be dead.
