Chapter 141: Our Last Game

For the first time in weeks, school felt almost normal.

Almost.

Students were still whispering.

News vans were still parked outside the gates.

Teachers still looked at Lenora and Lenold like they were walking proof that secrets never stayed buried.

But the fear was gone.

And in its place was something lighter.

Hope.

Lenora stood at her locker when she felt familiar hands slide around her waist from behind.

A smile spread across her face before she even turned.

“Lenold.”

He pressed a kiss to her temple.

“Good morning.”

She leaned back into him.

“You know people are staring.”

“Let them.”

His answer was immediate.

Confident.

And somehow that made her smile wider.

When she turned, he was already looking at her like she was the only thing that mattered.

It still stole her breath.

Lilibeth appeared beside them and fanned herself dramatically.

“Please. I’m single and fragile.”

Kylen walked up behind her.

“You’re dramatic.”

“And yet correct,” she said.

Pamela joined them, holding her tablet.

“There’s an announcement.”

Lenora groaned softly.

“Can we have one normal day?”

Pamela gave a small smile.

“Actually, this is good.”

She held up the screen.

Regional Championship Reinstated. Captain Lenold Davenport Cleared to Play.

Lenora looked up at Lenold.

His expression was stunned.

“You’re playing,” she whispered.

He stared at the announcement for a moment, then at her.

“Looks like it.”

Without thinking, Lenora threw her arms around his neck.

He laughed and lifted her off the floor.

The hallway erupted in cheers.

Even students who had spent weeks gossiping were clapping.

Because no matter what had happened, everyone knew one thing.

Lenold deserved this.

That night, the arena was packed.

The championship game had become more than a sporting event.

It was a statement.

A comeback.

A chance for everyone to witness what survival looked like.

Lenora sat in the front row with Pamela, Kylen, and Lilibeth.

Her heart pounded as the team skated onto the ice.

When Lenold emerged last, wearing his captain’s jersey, the crowd roared.

He looked stronger than ever.

Not because he was untouched.

But because he had endured.

As if sensing her eyes on him, he looked toward the stands.

Their gazes met.

He tapped his chest.

Then pointed at her.

The crowd went wild.

Lilibeth clutched her heart.

“I need a boyfriend immediately.”

Kylen snorted.

“Good luck.”

Pamela smiled.

“That was for her.”

Lenora’s eyes burned with emotion.

“I know.”

The game was brutal.

Fast.

Physical.

Every point hard-earned.

By the third period, the score was tied.

The entire arena was on its feet.

Lenora could barely breathe.

Lenold glided across the ice like he had been born there.

Focused.

Fearless.

With less than a minute left, he stole the puck.

The crowd roared.

He raced down the ice.

One defender.

Then another.

Time seemed to stop.

Lenora stood.

“Come on,” she whispered.

Lenold lifted his stick.

Shot.

The puck slammed into the net.

Goal.

The arena exploded.

The final buzzer sounded seconds later.

They had won.

Lenora burst into tears.

Pamela hugged her.

Kylen shouted.

Lilibeth was openly sobbing.

On the ice, Lenold was mobbed by his teammates.

But as soon as he could break free, he did one thing.

He skated straight to the boards where Lenora stood.

He pulled off his helmet, breathing hard, eyes shining.

“This was for you.”

Lenora laughed through tears.

“You did that.”

He shook his head.

“No. We did.”

Then he leaned over the boards and kissed her.

In front of everyone.

Cameras flashed.

The crowd cheered louder.

But Lenora didn’t hear any of it.

All she knew was the boy kissing her like she was home.

Later, after the celebration, they slipped away to the empty locker room.

Lenold had just finished showering, his hair damp, a towel slung around his shoulders.

Lenora stood in front of him, still wearing his team jacket.

He smiled softly.

“You’re quiet.”

She touched his face.

“I’m proud of you.”

His eyes softened.

“You were the reason I made it through.”

He leaned down and kissed her gently.

Then more deeply.

Her hands slid to his chest.

His arms wrapped around her waist.

The kiss turned slower, more intimate.

Filled with all the longing they had been forced to hold back.

When they finally broke apart, their foreheads rested together.

Lenora whispered, “I love you.”

Lenold smiled.

“I love you more.”

She laughed softly.

“Impossible.”

He brushed his thumb over her lower lip.

“Stay with me tonight.”

There was vulnerability in his voice.

A quiet request.

Lenora nodded.

“Always.”

He kissed her again.

Tender.

Certain.

As if he still couldn’t believe she was real.

That night, they lay tangled together in his bed.

Lenora rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat.

Lenold traced circles on her back.

For a long time, neither of them spoke.

Then Lenora whispered, “Do you think it’s really over?”

Lenold was quiet for a moment.

Then he kissed the top of her head.

“Yes.”

She tilted her head up.

“You sound sure.”

He smiled.

“Because for the first time, I’m not afraid.”

Lenora’s heart swelled.

“Me neither.”

He brushed a kiss across her forehead.

“We made it.”

She smiled sleepily.

“Together.”

“Together,” he agreed.

Outside, the world kept turning.

But inside his arms, everything felt exactly as it should.

Safe.

Warm.

Whole.

And as Lenora drifted to sleep, she realized something that made her smile.

The best part of their story wasn’t what they had survived.

It was what they still had ahead of them.
