Chapter 131: Promise
Achilles’ Point of View:
I went back to my apartment as I made an anonymous tip to the police that somehow the rich billionaire had died. It was already over two hours, and Isabelle was probably waiting for me, so I didn’t want to waste any more time trying to clear up the mess at the mansion. My people had already managed the security tapes and the fingerprints.
As soon as I reached my place and went inside, Isabelle ran up to me and hugged me. “Achilles.”
“Hey,” I smiled at her. “Everything’s gonna be fine now.”
She was confused at my words. I didn’t really know how she would react to this. I mean, she knew I was no saint and I had killed hundreds while working as a mafia leader, but right now I had murdered my own father and without any Mafia influence.
But I couldn’t hide it. No more secrets. I had to tell her if I wanted her to trust me.
“I killed my father.” Those words rolled out of my tongue, leaving her stunned.
Her eyes widened. “What?”
“Yes.”
She took a few minutes as she stepped back and then turned to me. A small smile played on her lips. “I love you.”
I chuckled as I pulled her closed, pressing my lips against hers. “I love you more, baby. I love you more.”
Just as we were talking, I was interrupted by my phone. I would’ve ignored it, but it was from Josephine and she hadn’t called us in days. Sharing a look with Isabelle, I picked it up.
“Josephine?” I said as I put the phone on speaker.
“Achilles. Carlos. Carlos is alive. Come to California right now!” She said through the other side of the screen and both our eyes widened.
“What are you talking about, Josie?” Isabelle jumped in and asked.
“I am not crazy, or delusional or anything! I swear. Come to The Research Institution of California as soon as you can.”
I shared a look with Isabelle. Both of us were as confused as ever, but this sounded like a real deal and not a joke that she would pull off. I know how awful it sounded considering everything that had happened from the fact that the hospitals told us about his death to us being at his funeral, I wanted to believe there was a miracle.
“We’ll be there in a few hours,” I said as I ended the call. “God, Isabelle, this life is a fucking rollercoaster.”
She was confused, shocked and out of her wits. I took her hand and then took us to my private airport. I needed to be in California if my best friend was still alive.
The plane landed and we rushed to the research institution she was talking about. I had called Josephine on my way over here and let her know we’re already in California, so she met us in front of the institution—along with Carlos.
We stopped dead in our tracks as we witnessed the biggest surprise we could have ever thought of. We shared looks with each other, and I lacked so many answers and had so many questions.
But none of them mattered. I ran to hug Carlos and squeeze the life out of him as Isabelle followed. As I felt his body hug mine, I realised he wasn’t a ghost after all. Oh fuck, my best friend was alive.
“Oh my fucking—what, how?” I heard Isabelle ask Josephine and then look at Carlos as soon as I let him breathe. He had a calm smile on his face as always.
“Oh to be back from the dead,” He commented and chuckled. “Told you I wouldn't leave you so soon.”
The rest of the day saw us talking and Josephine explaining about the miraculous resurrection of Carlos. I didn't think life could get better after I got Isabelle back and killed everyone who was against us—but I got my best friend back. He did miss quite a life, but he was gonna be with me for the rest of my life now and I wasn’t letting any one of them slip away.
It was nice to see all of them get along well even after everything that happened between us. Things had always tried to pull us all apart but I knew that love would bring us all back together. I had to admit, I didn’t know it would bring back Carlso from the supposed grave, but it did.
Life had offered me a second chance and all I knew was I wasn’t gonna waste it. I had to cherish every moment and trust these three people with my life. To love, I knew now, we had to give a lot of trust and love away. Almost as much as we get back. As scary as that was, it was life and the best way of living.
As we parted away from Carlos and Josephine, Isabelle managed to take us both to an alley and harass me with her touch.
“Oh…” I whispered as I felt her lips against mine and her hands roaming on my body.
“Achilles fucking Roman,” She said as she planted hundreds of kisses on my lips. “You are the one who was the highest bidder, weren’t you?”
“You’d think I would let another man close to you? That was the reason you were getting punished in the first place!” I said as I kissed her back.
“So promise me,” She stopped kissing me and looked into my eyes with a serious gaze. “Promise to never leave me ever again. And to love me. And to trust me.”
“I promise, Isabelle. I promise all of that and more.” I said with a smile curling up at my lips, resonating with the thunder of emotions within.
She returned my smile, her eyes lightening up the dark alley. “And I promise to bring back all the happiness you’ve lost over the years. I told you we were meant to be, Achilles.”
“I guess we were,” I replied as I pulled her into another kiss.
