Chapter 39 She's gone

Chapter 39 She's gone

Hades

Daphne comes bursting through my office door. She is almost pink with anger.

“Stop it!” she yells at me.

I drop my pen and swing around on my chair to face her. Seeing her hair loose and free down her back almost sends me into a frenzy.

“Stop what?” I ask, amused.

“Whatever you are doing! I know you are doing something to me,” she presses on.

“Daph, I don’t know what you are talking about.”

She runs her fingers through her hair, frustrated. “I can’t stop dreaming about you. Something’s weird going on. You are in all my dreams and it feel so real. Oh my god, I’m losing my mind.”

I stand carefully. “Hmm, so you’ve been dreaming about me, huh?” I ask in a low-toned voice.

She backs away from me. Her cheeks are rosy; her eyes are wet. “I can’t do this. We are done. So, whatever you are doing to me, just stop it!”

I smile deviously. “How could I stop you from dreaming about me? You are in control of your own dreams. So…if you’ve been seeing me in your dreams, isn’t that a sign?”

The visit to the Dream Realm paid off. If she didn’t want to see me in real life, I’d have to use any other realm I could find to visit her and the only time I could see her again was when she was sleeping, half-dead, half-open to Hell’s portal.

But of course, she doesn’t know this. To her, she is merely having sex dreams about me.

I itch closer to her, backing her into the corner. “No, no, we can’t do this. I can’t do this.”

Yet, she isn’t resisting. She is arching her ass against the wall, leaning closer to me. “Then, why’d you come here?”

“I came to tell you to stop coming into my dreams.”

“I can’t do that, Daphne,” I pause, tracing a finger along her thighs. She flinches, taking a sharp breath. “Even your body misses me. It can’t resist my touch.”

She closes her eyes like she’s about to make a bad decision. “I can’t, Hades. I’m done with you. I have a boyfriend now.”

That stops me in my tracks, chills, infuriates me. “Who? Eros?” I ask.

Daphne’s brows whips upward in confusion. “Who’s Eros?”

I stop myself from spilling the whole beans right there. She wouldn’t understand. Not even if I explained it to her right now.

“Who are you seeing? That Adonis boy?”

She bobs her head. “He’s really a good boy. He’s nice. I like being with him.”

Like, not love. I almost exhale with relief. There’s still time to get her out from Eros’s control.

“Do you even know him? When did you start a relationship with him?”

Daphne shoves me backward to give herself room to escape the corner I had forced her into. “I am not in a relationship with him. Not yet. I can’t even be in a relationship with anyone because you keep popping into my dreams. You keep ruining everything for me.”

Her voice is high-pitched and full of anger and sexual frustration. I dip my eyes lower to her breasts. Her perky, busty boobs call out to me. all I can think about is touching them, fondling them, making her nipples hard enough.

“I don’t know what you want me to do, Daph!”

“Stop calling me that! Stop being inside my head. just stop it!”

“I think you are frustrated with yourself. I think you know that deep down, you’ll never meet another one like me. That’s why you are so upset, so mad,” I reply.

She swallows hard. “You know, you are very cocky. You think I belong to you.”

“I know you belong to me. You’re mine, Daphne.”

Not Eros, her mother, Dalia or even my brother, Theodore would stop me from making her mine. No matter how long it takes, I will be taking her back to Hell with me.

Daph’s shaking her head at me, almost on the verge of tears. “Why? Why are you doing this to me?”

“Because…” I pause. I wanted to say “Because I love you, Daphne. I’ve loved you my entire life. I’ve loved you for centuries, since the beginning of time itself. I cannot function without you, I cannot live without you, I cannot exist without you. You are the love of my life, the owner of my heart, the bane of my existence!”

I wanted to tell her all this, to fall on my knees and make her mine, but I was afraid she’d reject me just as she had in the past. So, I say: “You know you want me too, Daph.”

She swings her purse at me in disappointment. “You are an arrogant prick. No, you are wrong. I don’t want you. I never wanted you. You came into my life and messed it up. I don’t want anything to do with you. I’m done with you. I am done! Don’t even look my way!”

She turns and flees. Out of the office, down the hall. I wanted to follow her but I figure she needs the space.

Later in the evening, I stop by her dorm room, hoping to speak to her. I appear in her room, hoping to surprise her. But instead, I ended up being surprised.

The room is empty, dark. I turn on the light, glancing around. Her wardrobe is empty. Her bags had been bagged.

She’s nowhere to be found. Gone. Disappeared.

I open the door and step out to the hallway. I stop a girl, her neighbor, who was just walking into the room next to hers.

“Hey, do you know where Daphne is?”

The girl swoons at me first before she replies, tucking her hair behind her ear. “Oh, Daphne’s gone. I think. She packed up her bags and left. She’s taking a break.”

“Gone? Gone where?”

I don’t know. But you know how tough this school can be, especially with the brutal rumors. She just needs a break. So, she’s gone.”

What ---? No, it can’t be. She can’t be gone.
