97 - I'LL TAKE THAT RISK

Kevin.

I wish I could have seen my idiot brother’s face when Eddy shot his girlfriend. Actually, his mistress was because she was still my wife.

“Honey, please don’t get up. You’re still in a delicate state.” I hated being nagged, especially by Susan. She’d always been a nag who thought by throwing herself on my bed she’d have me in her clutches like a puppy. Except her plans didn’t coincide with mine, so I quickly chased her away. “You must be cautious, as you’re still weak. You’ve had a very serious accident and you haven’t fully recovered,” she continued, rousing me from my reverie.

“Leave me! Get lost!” I yelled at her.

“But ....” she tried to apologize in a trembling voice. I honestly had more important things to do than listen to her.

“What don’t you get? I said leave!” I yelled at her again.

“Kevin!” she said and walked closer to me. She tried to stroke my cheek, but I got so annoyed that I hit her across the face with all my strength. She looked at me with wide, questioning eyes. Tears welled up. She put her hand to her cheek, turned and walked away.

It wasn’t my fault she never listened to anything I said. I needed quiet so I could calculate the next steps I wanted to take to make the two bastards pay. Revenge was all I wanted. They didn’t realize I was the boss. If they’d just done what I told them, then everything would have been so much simpler.

“I finally got rid of you, you stupid woman! You thought I’d be your slave just because you saved my life?” I said, after Susan closed the door. “At last I am alone. I’m only surrounded by idiots.”

My brother, a big asshole, dared to fall in love with my woman. He didn’t realize I wanted him out of my world. It seems the lesson he got a few years ago wasn’t enough for him. He still tried to be a smart ass.

She, my beloved wife, the idiot. Instead of being grateful for what I gave her, she threw herself into her brother-in-law’s arms. It wasn’t enough for her. I wanted to make her a grande dame full of expensive jewelry and dressed in the latest fashions.

“What else did she want me to give her? What did that idiot give her? Was he more of a man than me?” I said aloud.

Until the wedding, I didn’t feel like spending my money on her. It wasn’t in my best interest to be trying to win prudes when I had the finest women in my bed. It was better to enjoy myself with her money.

“Poor, poor thing! How naïve! A fool! Dreaming to love, family, children!” I said to myself, laughing sadistically.

Fools.... many fools she had in her head. For me, Emily was a fad, or rather, an ambition. I wanted to prove to my enemies that I could buy any woman I wanted and thanks to her I failed as a fool. That’s why they’re both gonna pay.

“Boss, poor Susan. She’s come ....” Eddy tried to tell me as he walked through my office door.

“You think I’m interested in a woman who’s always whining? Cut the crap,” I replied through gritted teeth.

It was the second time I was disturbed, distracted by my thoughts. I didn’t even hear Eddy come in. I was so angry I could be compared to a volcano ready to erupt. Just wanted some peace and quiet so I could put my thoughts in order. It was clear incompetents surrounded me. Good-for-nothings surrounded me. Okay, they saved my life, but what was I supposed to do? I thanked them. Wasn’t that enough?

The ringing of my cell phone saved me from Eddy’s useless explanations. I looked at the screen to see who had this great audacity. I was supposed to be dead. My eyes widened when I saw it was Carla. I couldn’t believe it. It was her. I motioned for Eddy to come out, and then I hurried back.

“New world, my dear. Miss me?” I asked her.

“Honey, I always miss you. I’m glad you came back from the dead.”

“So you keep up with the news?”

“Always. At first I was afraid the rumors were true, but then I figured you couldn’t leave without letting me know.”

“I can see you feel very important.”

“Of course, darling. Who can kiss you hotter than me? Do you have time for me?”

“Always.

“I’ll be with you in an hour,” he said and hung up.

That day finally made sense. I felt like a teenager going on a first date. And for good reason. Finally, my hot Carla was coming back to me. I only had an hour to give her a proper welcome. But first I had to get rid of Susan.

“Eddy! I know you’re at the door, so I need you to get rid of Susan. Send her on a job. She can get the hardest contract or the most dangerous. I’m not interested but get rid of her. NOW!” I knew she had a habit of eavesdropping, and that made me despair. “One more thing... STOP LISTENING AT MY DOOR! Unless I want to miss a bullet next time.”

That hour went by harder than a year. With every minute that passed, I felt like I was losing another year of my life. I was glad Susan left without a scandal. Frankly, I didn’t feel like explaining anything. It wasn’t my fault she was expired. I couldn’t express anything. It was good, but now it was gone.

As soon as an hour had passed, I went out onto the terrace. I sat down to see when Carla arrived, this without giving away my impatience. No one needed to know that the invincible Kevin had weaknesses.

Carla’s appearance was a rainbow after a thunderstorm. Beautiful and elegant, with a smile that made my hair warmer than sunshine and more precious than diamonds.

“Gorgeous as ever! Your appearance is a delight! To what do I owe your visit?” Frankly, I didn’t just want a visit. I wanted her with me, beside me.

“I thought you could use a little pampering from me. You had a terrible accident. But if I’m in the way, it’s okay.”

“You’re never in the way. You’re always welcome, my dear.”

“I was afraid I’d find you well cared for and there was no room for me.”

“For you, I’ll always make room no matter who cares for me or accompanies me.”

“Did you miss me?” he asked me, smiling seductively.

“Hm! What do you think?” I couldn’t tell her I missed her to death. Nor that I couldn’t wait to have her back in my bed. “To tell you the truth, I’ve been a little busy and haven’t really missed anyone.”

“You’re right. You’d try to visit other worlds. Was there only room around here for you?”

“Pretty much,” I replied, and we both started laughing.

I moved closer to her until our bodies came together. I grabbed her by the waist and squeezed her, pressing her chest to mine. Our hearts were beating together, singing the same song.

“I might never let you go.”

“I’ll take that risk,” she replied.
