Chapter 42
ANGEL SINCLAIR.
When I open my eyes, I feel my head throbbing. Looking around, I see that I'm in a hospital bed. Bryan is sitting in front of me with his head down; my father is next to me and Madison is on the other side.
"Angel?" my father asks, standing up automatically.
Bryan raises his head and walks over to me.
"Dad, why am I here?", I ask, my voice low, "I can barely speak".
"You've had an accident, darling," he says.
I look down at my body and make sure everything is working normally and unharmed.
"I think I can remember a little," I say.
"Angel, I'm sorry," is what comes out of Bryan's mouth.
"Madison, go outside with Bryan. I need some time alone with her," my father says.
"No, let me explain to Angel what happened, first," Bryan asks.
"She already knows what happened, if she hasn't figured it out. Angel already knows that she's in this state because of you, Bryan. She doesn't need to hear your lame excuses because it's not her fault that you're an irresponsible piece of shit!", my father snaps.
Bryan sighs deeply and Madison immediately pulls him out of the hospital room.
"Did Bryan tell you what happened?", I ask.
"He did, but I don't know if he was telling the truth".
"What did he say?".
"Do you really want to talk about it, Angel? I don't think it's appropriate at the moment."
"Yes, I do," I say.
"Bryan told me he was at a party and you went to pick him up, but he didn't want to come back. He said that the two of you got into a fight halfway there, you got inattentive and crashed your car into a lamppost", he says, "Was that really true?".
"Yes, it was", I confirm the story, "That's exactly what happened, but my intention was just to get Bryan out of that rotten party. I didn't want it to be associated with our family, Dad."
"I know, daughter, I know that you always do your best when it comes to looking after your surname. You did the right thing, but for the wrong person. Bryan doesn't deserve all your concern, my princess," my father kisses the top of my head, "You have a giant heart in there."
"Thanks, Dad. I tried my best, but that's what it ended up being," I sigh.
"Don't feel guilty, my love. You're fine and you can leave here today, you were just in a long sleep."
"That's good to hear, I thought I'd spend the rest of the night here," I say, relieved.
"No, don't worry, I'll call the doctor and he'll clear you up, he'll just give you some medication, but it's a minor thing," I nod.
"It's okay, no problem. I just want to go home, because I should be asleep by now."
"You're not going to class tomorrow, not under these conditions."
"There's a bandage on my forehead," I say, touching and feeling it.
"Yes, it bled a bit, so the nurse put it on. But it's okay, you're not too bad."
"Good, then. That's the only way to calm me down a bit."
"I totally disapprove of Bryan's attitude," my father nods, "If he does anything stupid again or anything that puts his life at risk, he'll be out on the street. I don't want someone like him in our house. I thought he'd look after you and do everything he could to keep you safe, but today I saw that he doesn't."
I almost died hearing that. Kick Bryan out of our house? Of course not, I can't let my father do that.
"Don't exaggerate, Dad. Everyone makes mistakes, and after all, Bryan was drunk, he ended up talking a lot of garbage. I'm sure he won't let it happen again," I say.
"And who's to say? We don't know if he'll dare to do it again. I hope Madison has a good talk with him, a serious talk. You can't pretend that nothing happened."
"We'll sort it out together later, okay? But right now, I just want to get out of here," I say, whimpering.
"It's okay, angel, I'm sorry. I'll call the doctor now," he says, heading for the door.
"Okay, Dad," I reply, calmly.
My father leaves the room and I close my eyes, letting my tears fall. What a fuck-up Bryan and I have made by getting involved with each other. What happened today was a warning to us not to get involved anymore. Enough is enough between us.
As soon as the doctor gets here, he examines me, gives my father a prescription and releases me. I go to the car with my father's help. He carefully lays me down in the back seat and drives off. I think Bryan and Madison went home earlier in her car.
When we get home, my father carries me to my bed and I automatically close my eyes because I'm so sleepy.
"Good night, daughter. We'll talk more tomorrow," he says.
"Thank you, Dad. I love you," I say.
"I love you much more, my love," my father kisses my forehead.
My father leaves the room and I start crying again, remembering what happened. Why did everything turn into this? We both started off wrong, of course it wasn't going to turn out well. It was bad, very bad, but it could have been worse. At least I'm home, I don't have any serious injuries and it was just a scare, but it still didn't do me any good. This thing with Bryan is getting more and more complicated, because it seems that we only hurt each other. Nobody deserves to go through that.
Now I can start again. There's Lorenzo, who treats me very well, he could be the right person for me and he could make me forget about Bryan. Bryan doesn't have the maturity to understand some things and he always does whatever he wants, he doesn't think about anyone. He's definitely not the right person for me for various reasons and I'm not going to insist on that. From now on, it will be everyone in their place.
