Chapter 29
ANGEL SINCLAIR.
I'll be ready a few minutes before 8 p.m. for dinner at the McKays'. The dress fits like a glove for this occasion. I put on a little lip gloss in addition to the light make-up and send a photo of the look to Ashley, who approves immediately. It's hard for any of my outfits not to look good. I know fashion and I only leave the house if the outfit is perfect, because I'm such a perfectionist.
Since Bryan and I got home from the movies, we've been going our separate ways. Just as I was about to take a shower, I saw from the balcony that he had driven off. I have no idea where he went, and I don't want to. It's just as well he's not here now so as not to fill me with questions.
I get a message from Liam telling me he's already here in front of my house. I leave the room and go downstairs to meet him. I see that he's changed cars again. I get into his car and smile when I see him smiling at me.
"What a production, Angel! I couldn't imagine anything less from you, could I?" he jokes.
"Oh, I'm even a bit simple," I say, making him laugh.
"My parents are looking forward to seeing you. It's amazing how busy life is. Even though you live so close, you haven't seen each other for ages."
"True. I can't even remember how old I was when I saw your parents," I say.
It's a short way from my house to his parents', but we'd still have to drive. No one deserves to walk, especially me when I'm wearing heels. It's not that big, but it's a heel.
As soon as we enter the house, I notice his parents waiting for us in the living room, Mr. and Mrs. McKay. I feel comfort in their embrace, as they were people who were part of my childhood, since Liam and I were inseparable friends.
We sit down at the table and the housekeeper comes to serve us. She's not the same as before, they must have changed her. Liam was practically brought up by nannies. He's never had much contact with his parents, but I imagine they're getting on better now.
"Are you dating yet, Angel?" Mrs. McKay asks.
"No, I'm quite relaxed about it," I reply.
"Oh, yes. I saw that boy you dated. Is he back in town?".
"Yes, he's back," I say.
"Matthew's back? That's news to me," says Liam.
"Apparently, neither of you are lucky in love," this time Liam's father says, "Liam didn't work out with either of the two boyfriends he had," I laugh.
"It's not that big a deal," Liam says, "The last one almost worked out, but my parents didn't approve."
"No? Why?" I ask.
"The last guy was very arrogant. He gave us a hard time, he didn't like us," says Mr. McKay.
"He was nice to me, but he couldn't stand my parents. He used to say that Mom talked a lot about women," we laughed after Liam said this.
"I didn't say anything much, he was the one who got upset about everything," Mrs. McKay retorted.
"He was a bit of a jerk, that's why it didn't work out. We didn't work out in love, but at least we're intelligent, Angel," Liam says and I laugh.
"Yeah, at least that," I confirm.
"Angel, tell me more about your father. I heard he's getting married," said Mrs. McKay.
"Yes, he is," I try to disguise my disgusted face, "There's no date set yet or anything, but they're already living together. I think the wedding will be next year."
"Who's the girl?" asks Mr. McKay.
"Her name is Madison Carter, she's English and she's only been living here in the United States for a short time. I don't know much about her, but she already has a son older than me," I say.
"And she's living with you too?" Liam asks.
"Yes, she is," I reply.
"I don't know how you're coping living with strangers. From what I know of you, I think you must hate it," he says.
"I have to agree. It's been terrible, a real nightmare!" I say, but end up letting out an unnoticed laugh as I remember Bryan.
I take a sip of the drink in my glass and Liam wipes his mouth with his napkin. I was going to do the same, but I saw the dessert coming. It looks great and I certainly tried it, wiping my mouth only after I'd finished eating everything.
When we'd finished dinner and were talking for a while, Liam decided to take me home. I said goodbye to his parents and thanked them for dinner, doing the same to him before getting out of the car.
As I enter the house, I realize that Bryan is here, because the living room light is on and I left it off before I left. When I get to the hallway to my room, I see that he's not here. Bryan is home, but he's not in his room, and he's left the door open. Something's not right.
I go up to my father's bedroom floor and hear the sound of the shower turning on.
"Bryan?" I call out to him.
"I'm in the bathroom," he replies.
I go into the bedroom, close the door and soon Bryan comes out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist.
"What are you doing here?" I ask.
"The shower in my room had a problem. Your room was closed and this is the only bathroom in the house that I know of apart from my own," he says, "Where were you?" he asks, looking at my clothes.
"Oh, I went out," I reply, not really caring.
My eyes are locked on Bryan's well-toned chest and the next thing I know, he's dragging me to bed.
As soon as I'm in bed, Bryan gets up, locks the bedroom door and rushes over to stand over me.
"Bryan, in our parents' bedroom?" I ask, frowning.
"What's wrong, babe? Relax," he says, sniffing and kissing my neck.
We start kissing and Bryan takes off my dress, along with my panties.
Bryan sucks on one of my breasts and that's when we hear footsteps in the hallway, as well as the sound of the door handle.
"Angel? Bryan? Who's here?", the voice is my father's.
Holy shit! Everything's fucked.
