Chapter 413: My Husband, My Secret Lover

Author POV

The doctor told Stela a lot of other dos and don'ts and Stela listened to him carefully.

However, the more the doctor said, the more darkened Hayden's face became. Finally, Hayden couldn’t help but interrupt the doctor, "Doctor, you just need to tell me the dos and don’ts. I have servants at my home and will ask them to take care of me."

These days, he wanted to keep a distance from Stela and avoided meeting her every day. Besides, he had a secret that he couldn’t let her know. Therefore, he wouldn't let her help clean his body in any case.

After Hayden finished his words, the office fell into an awkward silence and the assistant who was putting away the medical tools paused in surprise. The doctor looked at Hayden and Stela in confusion and wondered, What happened between you two? Aren’t you in a good relationship? Hayden, why did you suddenly show such an attitude after your wife was back?

"Did you quarrel on your way here?" The doctor asked tentatively.

"No," Hayden and Stela answered him at the same time.

The doctor then chuckled and said, "You two are quite in tune. Since you two denied it at the same time, I’m sure that you must have quarreled. I've been through similar cases when I was young. It’s normal for a couple to quarrel."

Alas. If only what happened between us was as simple as quarreling, Stela thought with a bitter smile and shifted her gaze to Hayden.

At the moment, Hayden looked impatient and displeased. However, the doctor didn't notice that. He turned to look at Hayden and continued to try to persuade him, "As a man, you should be tolerant toward your wife. I don’t know why you quarreled with her, but I suggest you let it go."

Hearing this, Hayden lowered his head in silence, not wanting to recall what Stela had done to him before.Seeing him like this, Stela knew he was still blaming her. Feeling helpless, she ignored his indifferent look and continued to ask the doctor about the dos and don'ts. She decided that she would do as many things as she could for Hayden and wouldn’t let him suffer anymore whether he would forgive her or not.

"Doctor, ignore what he said just now. Tell me the dos and don’ts. He can’t move freely now. If I insist on helping him clean his body, he has to listen to me," she said.

"How could you be so unreasonable?"

Hayden blurted out what he had always said when Stela and he bickered in the past. As soon as he finished his words, both Stela and he were stunned and fell into silence.

Looking at them with a meaningful look, the doctor broke the silence and said to Hayden,

"Well, stop bickering and listen to me. Just let your wife help you clean your body. Although you have servants, it’s strange to ask a male servant to do that for you. Don’t you think so?"

Hayden wanted to say that it was not strange at all. But before he spoke, the doctor’s assistant and the nurse who came to deliver the medicine burst into laughter at the same time when they imagined the scene where a male servant wiped Hayden’s naked body with a wet towel. They looked at each other and lowered their heads, trying to hold back their laughter.

At first, Hayden didn't understand why they were laughing and was confused. When he realized what they were thinking, his face darkened. Stela also wanted to laugh, but looking at Hayden’ displeased look, she restrained herself from doing so. With a smile, she said to the doctor, "Doctor, please tell me more matters needing attention. I will remember them all and do as you say."

"Okay," The doctor said. Then he specially wrote down some tips about drug use on the paper and handed it to Stela.

Stela then carefully folded the paper and put it together with the medicine. When she was talking with the doctor, she listened to him with earnest attention for fear of missing anything important and didn’t notice that Hayden was gazing at her.

Hayden hadn’t seen her so intent for a long time. In the past years, whenever he looked at her, there was a hint of gloom on her face.

I’m the source of her unhappiness. There was nothing wrong with her taking revenge on me. I have no right to blame her. After all, compared with the pain I caused her, what I suffered is nothing, he thought. During the half a year in prison, he always thought in this way when he looked at the shining stars in the sky through the small window of the cell.

On the day he was released from prison, Justin asked him, "What are you going to do with your relationship with Miss Walker in the future?"

At that time, Hayden didn’t say anything and just smiled bitterly, thinking, I can do nothing with it. I still love Stela and don’t want to give up on her. But she doesn’t love me anymore.

The two of them had got themselves into an awkward position. They were most familiar with each other but now they were like strangers. Hayden felt like there was a barrier between Stela and him and neither of them could break it. He wanted to be back with Stela, but he didn’t want to admit it. I’m a coward who can’t face my true feelings, he thought and looked away from Stela.

"I've remembered them all," Stela said with a smile, "Thank you, Doctor."

The doctor was glad that she was willing to take his advice and gave her an approving look. "Under your care, your husband will definitely recover soon. I’ve met a ridiculous couple before. They did many things against my advice. I was pissed off!"

Stela couldn't help chuckling and said, "I will follow your advice. You can rest assured. I won't do anything that we shouldn’t do."

"OK. When he recovers, you can do whatever you like," the doctor said.

At this moment, the door of the office was pushed open and the nurse who heard that treatment had been over, brought the three children in. With a smile, she said, "The children said they missed you and wanted to come back to you so I brought them back. They are so cute."

As soon as Aelius saw Stela, he patted his chest and said proudly, "Mom, I didn't let Yvonne and Christina get out of my sight when you were with us."

Knowing Aelius wanted her to praise him, Stela gently patted him on the shoulder and said, "Well done. I knew you are reliable."

"Mrs. King, your daughters are so beautiful. They are angels. I also want a daughter," the nurse said and shook hands with Yvonne and Christina one by one and said,

Hearing this, the doctor said, "If you want to stay with children, I can send you to the pediatric department. There are many children there."

Hearing this, the nurse immediately shook her head and left. Although she liked children, she didn’t want to work around the clock every day. The three children then waved goodbye to her. After the nurse left, they gathered around Hayden and expressed their concerns for him.

"Dad, does it hurt?" Yvonne took out the chocolate from her pocket and handed it to him.

"It doesn’t hurt." Hayden took the chocolate with a smile and caressed her head with a doting smile.

Standing beside him, Christina wanted to touch his legs but didn't do so for fear of hurting him. She puffed her cheeks and blew Hayden’ legs a few times and then said in a sweet voice, "Dad, Mom told me that blowing the injury can relieve the pain. All your pain will disappear soon." After saying that, she took her little hand as a fan and fanned Hayden’ legs.

When Hayden saw her lovely look, the smile on his face broadened.

"Dad is a superhero. He is not afraid of pain and will be fine soon," Aelius said, "Dad, I want to be a superhero like you. Could you teach me how to become a superhero when I grow up?"

With a chuckle, Hayden said patiently, "Aelius, you don't have to be like me. Just be yourself and you will become a superhero."

"That's all?"

"Well... There's one more thing you should do."

"What's it?"

"Don't let the person who likes you down. Most importantly, no matter what happens, you must believe them. Otherwise, you will regret it for the rest of your life."
