Chapter 81
The room I was held in was dark and cold, with the only light filtering through a small, grimy window high on the wall. My wrists were raw from the rough ropes that bound them, and my body ached from the long hours of captivity. Each passing moment felt like an eternity, and the fear gnawed at me relentlessly. I tried to hold onto the hope that Rossi was fine and he would find me, that he would save me once again, but the weight of despair was crushing.
The door creaked open, and I tensed, expecting one of Riccardo’s thugs. Instead, a tall, elegantly dressed woman entered. Her eyes were cold, and her expression was one of cruel amusement. Leticia. Riccardo Gotti’s wife.
“Well, well, well,” she said, her voice dripping with mockery. “Look who we have here again. The damsel is in distress, waiting for her knight in shining armor.”
I glared at her, refusing to show any fear. “Rossi will come for me,” I said defiantly. “And when he does, you’ll all pay for this.”
She laughed with a harsh, bitter sound. “You really believe that, don’t you? Rossi will save you? Let me tell you something, sweetheart. He’s not coming. Not this time. Riccardo has made sure of that.”
I fought to keep my composure, but her words struck a chord of fear deep within me. “You’re lying,” I spat. “He’ll find me. .”
Leticia stepped closer, her eyes narrowing. “You think you know him, but you don’t. Rossi is ruthless. He’s been playing you all along, using you as a pawn in his game against Riccardo. Do you really think he cares about you?”
I clenched my fists, trying to block out her words. “You’re wrong. Rossi loves me. He’s risked everything for me.”
“Love?” Leticia sneered. “Love is a weakness. Something people like us can’t afford. Rossi knows that. He’s always known that. And now, you’re paying the price for his mistakes.”
“You don’t know anything about us. Rossi will come for me, and he’ll end you and your psycho husband. You should do better, Leticia; your petty words won’t get to me. .”
She shook her head, a mocking smile playing on her lips. “You’re delusional, Aurora. You’re not going to escape. This is where your story ends.”
With that, she turned and walked out of the room, leaving me alone with my fear and uncertainty. I tried to hold onto the hope that Rossi would find me, that he would save me, and that he was still alive. But Leticia’s words echoed in my mind, sowing seeds of doubt and despair.
I knew Rossi loved me. I knew he would do everything in his power to find me. But as the hours dragged on, I couldn’t help but wonder if Leticia was right. If this was truly the end, If Rossi couldn’t save me this time,.
The darkness of the room seemed to close in around me, and I felt my strength slipping away. I had to hold on. I had to believe that Rossi would come for me. But the fear was overwhelming, and I was terrified that I would never see him again.
Hours passed, each one dragging on longer than the last. I had lost track of time; the silence of the room was broken only by the occasional distant sound of footsteps or muffled voices. My thoughts were a chaotic jumble of fear and hope, of Rossi’s face and Leticia’s taunting words.
The door creaked open again, and I tensed, expecting more torment. But instead of Leticia or one of Riccardo's men, it was Ernesto who slipped inside, his eyes darting nervously around the room before settling on me. Relief washed over me, mixed with confusion.
“Aurora,” he whispered urgently, hurrying to my side. “Are you alright?”
I nodded weakly, tears springing from my eyes at the sight of a familiar, friendly face. “Ernesto, what are you doing here? If they catch you...”
He shook his head, a determined look on his face. “I had to see you. I couldn’t let you suffer here alone. Listen to me carefully. I don’t have much time. I’m going to do everything in my power to get you out of here.”
“Ernesto,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “They’re watching everything. If they find out you’re helping me, they’ll kill you.”
He placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “I know the risks, but I can’t stand by and do nothing. Riccardo has gone too far. He’s become a monster, and I refuse to be his puppet any longer.”
Tears welled up in my eyes, a mixture of gratitude and fear. “How can you help me? They’re always watching.”
Ernesto glanced over his shoulder, making sure the coast was clear. “I’ve been gathering information, finding out who the weakest links in Riccardo’s operation are. There are a few guards who are only in this for the money. I can bribe them to look the other way, create a distraction, something that will give us a chance.”
“Rossi,” I said, my voice breaking. “He’ll come for me. He always does. But if he tries to come here...”
Ernesto nodded. “I know. We need to be ready for that. I’ll coordinate with him and find a way to make sure you both get out safely. Just hang on a little longer, Aurora. I promise you, we’ll get you out of here.”
Hope sparked in my chest, a fragile flame in the darkness. “Thank you, Ernesto. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
He squeezed my hand, his eyes filled with determination. “We’re family, Aurora. I’ll always protect you. Now, I need to go before they realize I’m here. Stay strong and be ready. When the time comes, you’ll need to move quickly.”
I nodded, watching as he slipped back out of the room, the door closing softly behind him. The silence returned, but this time, it felt different. There was a glimmer of hope, a promise of rescue.
I clung to that hope, to Ernesto’s promise. I would stay strong; I would hold on. Rossi was out there, and Ernesto was on my side. Together, they would find a way to bring me home.
The hours that followed were a test of endurance. I replayed Ernesto’s words in my mind, drawing strength from them. I had to be ready. I had to stay strong. The thought of seeing Rossi again and of being free kept me going.
As the night stretched on, I remained vigilant, every sound and shadow a potential sign of my impending rescue. I couldn’t let fear overwhelm me. I had to be ready. For Rossi. For myself. For the chance to finally end this nightmare.
The hours passed slowly, each minute feeling like an eternity. Ernesto’s visit had filled me with hope but also with gnawing anxiety. I clung to his words, trying to stay strong, but the fear of the unknown was overwhelming. I didn’t know when the rescue would come or what Riccardo and his men might do in the meantime.
Suddenly, I heard voices outside the door. My heart began to race. Were they coming for me? Was this the beginning of my rescue, or something far worse? I strained to hear the muffled conversation, sending waves of dread through me.
I couldn’t make out the words, but the tone was intense and angry. Footsteps approached, then stopped right outside my door. I held my breath, my body tense, ready for whatever came next. The door handle rattled, and I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing myself.
The door creaked open, and I heard the heavy footsteps of multiple people entering the room. My heart pounded in my chest, each beat echoing in my ears. I opened my eyes slowly, trying to make out the figures in the dim light.
Riccardo stood in the doorway, his face twisted into a cruel smile. Behind him were two of his thugs, both of them armed and looking menacing. My stomach churned with fear.
“Enjoying your stay, Aurora?” Riccardo taunted, stepping closer. “I hope you’re comfortable. You’ll be here for a while longer.”
I swallowed hard, trying to muster some courage. “What do you want, Riccardo? Why are you doing this?”
He laughed, a sound that sent chills down my spine. “You know exactly why. Rossi has caused me nothing but trouble, and you’re the perfect leverage to make him suffer. As long as I have you, he’ll do whatever I say.”
The thugs moved closer, their eyes cold and unfeeling. I tried to back away, but there was nowhere to go. “You’re making a mistake,” I said, my voice trembling. “Rossi won’t stop until he finds me. And when he does, you’ll pay for this.”
Riccardo’s smile faded, replaced by a look of pure malice. “We’ll see about that. In the meantime, you’ll stay here and think about how much you’re costing him. If you’re lucky, you might even get to see him one last time before I end this.”
He turned and walked out of the room, leaving me alone with the two thugs. They watched me for a moment before following him out, the door slamming shut behind them. I was alone again, and the silence was more oppressive than ever.
I tried to calm my racing heart, focusing on Ernesto’s promise. I had to hang on. Rossi and Ernesto were out there, and they wouldn’t stop until I was safe. But the fear was overwhelming, and I couldn’t shake the feeling that something terrible was about to happen.
The hours dragged on, each one filled with anxiety and dread. Every sound outside the door made me jump, my mind racing with possibilities. I had to stay strong, but the fear was starting to wear me down. I could only hope that my rescue would come soon, before it was too late and the poison kicked in.
