Chapter 43
Archer POV:
Dawn has been gone a long time, I pace back and forth in the room trying not to worry much. If she doesn’t return in five more minutes I will go and look for her.
“Archer?” Krista calls out simultaneously opening the door and peeking in.
“Yeah come in” I say.
“Where is Dawn?”
“She has gone to talk with Monk Elijah”
Her expression changes to outright hostility “She has got nerves. That dude is crazy”
“I know. That’s why I am worried why she is being so late”
“She will be fine. Well I want to tell you something that I noticed. I think something is funny with Bloom. She was throwing up in the bathroom for a long time”
“Is she sick?” I ask
“Yeah obviously but Jenny thinks it has nothing to do with any normal indigestion or anything. She suspects that Bloom might be pregnant. Now we both are not that close to her so that we can just up front ask such a private question. I think Dawn should have a chat with her and confirm if that is the case”
“Okay I will tell her as soon as she returns” This is certainly not the good time to be pregnant. Krista leaves and as I am about to go search for Dawn, she comes in the door. I immediately wrap her in a hug.
“I was worried. What took you so long?”
“I had a chat with Monk Elijah.” I release her and she holds a book up for me to see. “He gave me this to read”
“What is this about?”
“The history of this place and also the gang’s connection to the cult I guess. I am not sure”
“Do you think you can learn something from this” I take the book from her and flip through the pages. Some of the pages at the beginning of the book are yellow and dusty like they might break from mere touch. The binding has been opened and stitched several times.
“I think you should start reading from the last pages. They are new pages and hold the current information I guess unless you are interested of knowing about the cult.”
“Oh no!! I have absolutely zero interest about the cult. I am only interested about Feng. If I am to face him I must know about him” The nervousness on her face is apparent which she is trying to fight down. I keep the book and sit down to come face to face with her.
“Hey, it’s gonna be alright”
“I know. I am just disturbed about the fact that I am doing all these. Whatever he might be he is my father there is no doubt in that. He may be heartless, but I am not” She reaches her hand to grab the book from the table, but I stop her.
“No, you need rest. It was a tough day, and it will not help if you are tired all the time. Tomorrow we have to practice together remember?”
“Okay” She says, and I kiss her forehead. “Will you help me sleep?” she asks. I don’t answer but pull her down with me embracing her gently and run my fingers in her hair. I know she likes it and I know she is hurting inside. It is not easy at all, and I have to make sure that the horrors we are going to face don’t leave us too battered. There is nothing in this world I want, not the fortune I am really entitled too nor raise a gang and rule the underworld. I just want to give her a life, to let her see the world and to grow old with her loving. She has missed out on so much already and in a way I have too. My whole life I have carried this burden on my shoulder to exact revenge on a person I haven’t even met personally. Never have I thought about the aftermath of this quest if I did survive. I thought I knew my stuff was together until I initiated all this and then started getting doubtful. My only solace is Dawn and although it is not her burden, I have still got her to pick me up if I am down anytime. My sole concern now is to ensure no one gets hurt because I won’t be able to live with that. The fact that Bloom can be pregnant makes me nervous because it is obviously a huge deal. I don’t know if she has told Rob or not. He must know before making any decision regarding her. They might start a family together which is wonderful. I may have a family with Dawn someday if she allows me. I will propose her by the sea and then she have to say yes to me. The thought of the future is so appealing that it makes the present restless, so I keep them locked in my heart and let sleep claim me.
