Chapter 92
My heart raced as we kept staring at each other.
"Your meal, sir," the waiter claimed my attention. He is placing our meal in front of us.
"Finally," Robert said, smiling at the meal.
I looked towards Ernest's direction. He is shaking hands with an older man dressed in a black suit.
I guess he is here for a business meeting. I watched as they took their seats.
Ernest's eyes locked with mine again.
I dropped my gaze.
"Bon appetit, my love." Robert said.
I smiled at him as I picked up my cutlery.
We began eating.
I felt Ernest's eyes on me.
Seriously, he is just every I go. I don't understand why.
My eyes moved to him.
He is explaining whatever to the older man.
He looks very handsome in his suit. Blue suits makes his eyes sparkle.
Kim, seriously?
"You didn't say anything about our wedding plans." Robert claimed my attention.
"What?"
"Our wedding plans, baby." He said.
"Oh. It is uh....it is a good plan." I said.
He smiled. "Really?"
I nodded.
"I am glad you are happy about it." He said.
I smiled a little as my eyes moved to Ernest.
He is looking at me.
"I was thinking," Robert took my attention again.
"Why don't you fight for the custody of one of your kids?"
I furrowed my brows.
He nodded.
"I don't understand."
"I mean, you take one of the kids and he will take the other. That way you won't be going to his house to see them."
I felt weird by what he is suggesting.
"I don't want you anywhere near him." He said, making me look at Ernest.
He is sipping his drink.
"What do you say?" Robert asked.
I looked at him.
He is sipping his drink.
"Robert, I..... I can't separate my kids from each other."
He dropped his gaze.
"They have always been together. And I have always told them that they are one. I can't be the one to separate them."
He nodded. "So, you rather they stay with that bastard and you go to his house frequently to see them?"
"You put it like that and it sounds as if I am going to see him specifically."
"That is what it looks like, Kimberly." He said, making me uneasy by his stare.
I dropped my gaze. "I am sorry, but I can't separate my kids."
"It okay. Whatever you want." He said.
I looked at him.
He is focused on his food.
My eyes moved to Ernest.
He is nodding at whatever the old man is telling him.
"I guess I have to get used to having him around you." Robert said, looking at me.
"I uh....i need to use the restroom." I said, getting on my feet before he could say anything.
I headed towards the restroom. I entered the one meant for ladies.
I walked towards the mirror and rested my hands on the counter, letting out a sigh.
I looked at myself in the mirror.
"What is wrong with you, Kim? What?"
I stared at myself for a while. I am actually wearing a brown dress with stones on it. I am also wearing makeup.
I grabbed a tissue and wiped my lipstick a little. It looks too much.
The door opened, revealing Ernest.
My heart picked up as I turned around.
"Hey," he said, walking towards me.
"What are you doing in here?" I asked.
He didn't respond but stood in front of me, towering me.
"Haven't you stopped this habit of following me and looking for an alone moment with me?" I asked, feeling pressured at his presence.
He didn't respond but kept staring at me.
My heart raced at his stares.
Next, he slowly dropped down on his two knees, surprising me to the least.
"Kimberly," he called, looking at me.
My heart increased its pace.
"I am sorry for all I have did to you." He said.
I furrowed my brows.
"Starting from five years ago when I kicked you out of my house and my life. I am sorry for all the humiliations and maltreatment at my company. I am sorry for flaunting Darlyn in your face. I am sorry for pushing you out of my company like that. I am sorry for the bad words I threw at you." He said with emotions on his face.
Tears approached my eyes.
"I am sorry for all you have been through while raising our kids. I am sorry for being your worst nightmare, baby."
Tears rolled down my eyes but I looked away and wiped them off.
"I was a fool. I am still a fool. I threw away a very precious gift the universe blessed me with. I was a bastard. A jerk. A manic. An asshole. I am all the horrible names you can think of."
I folded my arms, feeling my clenching heart.
"I don't deserve your forgiveness. But I am begging for it. I am begging that you find a place in your heart to forgive me. I am just human."
More tears flowed.
"I am just a man who allowed foolishness take the best of me. I allowed the wealthy I made get to my head. I am willing to give everything up for you."
I looked at him.
He is looking at me. "I mean it, baby. I am will to go back to that trucker you once loved. I will go back to that simple man. Just.....just forgive me, baby, please. Forgive this fool. I love you."
My heart kept racing.
"I love you so much, baby. Please." He said, resting his head on my waist.
More tears approached my eyes.
He wrapped his hands around me.
"I am sorry, baby. I am so sorry. Please forgive me, I beg you." He said, holding me tightly.
I felt goosebumps all over me.
A clapping sound claimed our attention.
It was Robert.
He is clapping his hands and walking towards us.
"Wow. Very touching." Robert said.
Ernest heaved a sigh as he unwrapped me.
"That was a very good speech. I am proud of you." Robert said as Ernest got on his feet.
"You really need a medal for that one. I almost fell for it." Robert said as he looked at me.
"And she was falling for it. Look, she has tears in her eyes." Robert said, chuckling.
I dropped my gaze.
"Don't believe this maniac, sweetie. Don't forget how he humiliated you all the time." Robert said.
"Shut the fuck up, Robert. Stay out of this." Ernest ordered.
Robert chuckled. "No. You stay away from my fiance, dumb fuck!"
Ernest didn't say a word.
"I don't want you anywhere near her. It is annoying enough that you both are co-parenting. I don't want to see you alone with my wife ever again!" Robert warned.
"She is not your wife." Ernest snarled.
"Well, we are getting married very soon. This time, you won't be able to kidnap her again, you fucking maniac." Robert said.
Ernest didn't say a word.
"I should get you arrested for kidnapping her but she stopped me." Robert said and I shared a look with Ernest.
Robert dragged me towards him and placed me behind him.
"You had your chance with her and you ruined it. She is mine now. Go back home to your kids." Robert said.
Ernest clenched his jaw at Robert. His eyes moved to me.
I looked away from him.
"Let's go, baby," Robert said, taking my hand.
"Kimberly," Ernest called, making my heart clench.
"Fuck you," Robert snapped as he took me away.
My heart tightened. I picked up my bag and he took me out of the restaurant.
I heard Bernie calling after me but Robert didn't give me the chance as we entered his car and drove away.
"Stupid manic." Robert spat.
I stared at my purse as everything Ernest said sang in my head.
"He thinks he can brainwash you after all he did to you." Robert said, chuckling.
I felt tears coming.
"Talking about giving up his wealth for you. Yeah right. What a scum. He is not going to do that, trust me. He is so full of his wealthy self. He is an egoistic bastard." He said.
I looked at the windows as tears rolled out my eyes.
"He is a fucking scum and an asshole." Robert said.
I agree.
And it hurts that my heart wants him.
I am so foolish.
So foolish.
TWO DAYS LATER........
"Welcome, ma'am." Martha greeted me after she opened the door.
I smiled at her as I walked.
"You never listen, Martha. My name is Kimberly." I said to her.
She chuckled.
I looked around. The house is silent.
"Where is everyone?"
"Oh, they are in the boss' room." She said, making my heart pick up.
I nodded. "Okay,"
"Isabel and I are making lunch." Martha said, walking away.
"Alright." I said as I looked at the stairs.
Sighing, I headed for the stairs.
It's been two days since the incident at the restaurant. I still can't stop thinking about it. Every single word sang in my head repeatedly.
I can't help but feel that he meant every word.
But Robert is right. Ernest is an egoistic man. He doesn't mean all he said.
The problem is, I can't stop thinking about the way he looked at me while saying those things. The way he dropped down on his knees and wrapped his hands around me. I wasn't expecting that at all.
Hell, I can't get him out of my head.
You might think that I came here to see him but no. I came to see my kids. I have missed them.
Two days is the longest I have ever been away from them.
I really can't do with my kids. I had to explain to Robert before leaving his house.
He made me assure him that I will be back today.
I shook my head, heaving a sigh.
This is going to be hard.
I got to Ernest door. I reached to knock but the door opened instantly, revealing Ernest in his black tank top and ash-colored sweatpants.
My heart raced.
"Oh," he said as his lips formed a smile.
I was dumbfounded, staring at his breathtaking appearance. My legs felt weak by his enchanting blue eyes.
"I wasn't expecting you." He said.
"I uh....I am here to see the kids."
"Sure," he said, turning to the kids who are busy watching a movie.
"Come in," he said, moving aside and I walked in.
"Kids, mum is here." Ernest said, claiming their attention.
"Mum!" They squealed happily and ran towards me.
My heart melted as I leaned down and hugged them.
"We missed you, mummy." Emma said.
"Yes, we did. So much!" Ryan said, making me chuckle as I caressed their cheek.
"I missed you both too. I brought chips." I sang.
"Yay!" They squealed happily as I took out the chips from my bag and handed it over to them.
I smiled at them as I stood up straight. I sighted some kind of kids' movie displaying on the screen.
"What are you both watching?"
"Home Alone!" They said in unison.
"Hmm. Sounds fun."
"Yes, mummy. Come and watch it with us." They said, taking my hands and walked towards the bed.
"I uh, I am going to get something. I will be right back." Ernest said, making me look in his direction. He is heading out.
I sat down with my kids as the movie went on.
"So, how have you both been?" I asked, caressing Emma's hair.
"Fine." Ryan said.
"How is Elodie?" Emma asked.
"Fine too. She missed you guys." I said.
"We will go and visit her one day." Emma said, eating her chips. They are looking very nice in their new clothes.
Ernest is really looking after them.
Well, thanks to Martha and Isabel.
Indy must have gone back to her place.
Half way into the movie, I am taken aback by what the kid in the movie called Kevin, is doing to the antagonists.
My kids kept laughing at it but I find it....bad for them. My kids might emulate it.
Ryan most especially.
Geez.
They are not supposed to be watching this.
The door opened, revealing Ernest.
My heart picked up as always.
"Kids, lunch is ready." He said.
"Yes!" The kids squealed and ran out of the room, leaving just Ernest and I.
I walked towards him.
He stared at me.
I felt uneasy.
"Hey," he said.
"The movie is bad for the kids." I said, motioning at the movie.
He furrowed his brows. "You mean Home Alone?"
"Yes. Whatever. Ryan could emulate everything the kids did in the movie. Why would you let them see such a movie?"
He let out a chuckle.
I furrowed my brows. "Are you laughing at me?"
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to laugh but you are being paranoid over nothing. The movie is a Christmas movie for kids. It is not bad."
"Of course. You know better." I said, rolling my eyes and looked away.
"You look beautiful as always." He said, making me look at him.
He is staring at me.
My heart raced.
"Your lips has grown more tempting than it used to." He said, staring at my lips.
"I will go check up on the kids." I said, walking past him but he held my hand, making me look at him.
He held me closer and crashed his lips on mine.
My legs weakened.
