Chapter 19: Chapter Nineteen - The Regrets
Everly
The second I open my eyes, I groan as the light hits me. My head is pounding. I remember everything from last night. I glance over to see Orson still sound asleep next to me and naked. God, what was I thinking? I shouldn’t trust my judgment when I am drunk and horny. It shouldn’t have happened. It was a stupid mistake, but damn, it was good sex. It was hot and passionate. He knows how to fuck and pleasure a woman, but no matter how good it is, it is still a mistake.
I search for my cell for the time. It is eight in the morning. We have a couple of hours before we need to head to the office here for Orson to fix whatever the issue is. I would rather not be going at all. Who thought it was a good idea to drink as much last night when we knew what was scheduled for today? I didn’t mean to fall asleep in here last night, but I was too exhausted to move. My body still aches, and I swear I have friction burns. I slowly climb out of bed, looking for something to cover my naked body. I find one of his tees and pull it over my head, sneaking out of his room to mine. I need a shower, but first things first, coffee. I find a clean pair of panties and put them on under the tee. The hangover will pass. They don’t usually last long.
I start a fresh pot of coffee and fill a glass with water until it is ready. I'm struggling to walk properly; my legs feel like jelly. A lot of sex will do that to you. I stare out of the window as I wait for the coffee.
“Good morning, sunshine.”
The sound of Orson’s chirpy voice goes right through. I groan and mumble a good morning back to him. He comes up behind me, placing his hand on my hip. I fling myself around to face him and push him away.
“Don’t touch me. I told you it was a one night thing.” I remind.
He shrugs and laughs. “It was worth a try. You can’t say you didn’t have fun and think about doing it again.”
“I did have fun, a lot of fun, but I meant when I said it wouldn’t be a frequent thing. So, get the idea of it happening again out of your head.” I state firmly.
If he thinks he can seduce me, he is delusional. I don’t tend to make the same mistake twice. I roll my eyes, turn away from him and pour some coffee for each of us.
“Do you want to grab breakfast before we head over?” he asks as we sit down for our coffee.
“I'll need to eat something, or I'll end up sick,” I reply, taking a sip.
“Okay, we can shower, get ready and find somewhere for breakfast on the way.” He suggests.
“Sounds good.”
I need something in my stomach. I am always famished the morning after drinking. I take my coffee, get to my feet and go to my room to shower. It's best that I put some distance between us because I'm not in the mood for his remarks and attitude this morning. I am tempted to climb into bed and tell him to go to hell, and I am not coming with him.
I sit on the edge of the bed, finishing my coffee before preparing for my shower. We are going to be there for most of the day. I dread it.
It is after seven when we arrive back at our suite. I am exhausted, and Orson is cranky. He spent most of his afternoon lecturing people for their incompetence. I thought he only treated me like crap. It turns out he treats everyone the same. He is such an asshole.
I go straight to my room without saying another word to him. I plan on staying here for the rest of the night. I will order room service if I am hungry. I strip out of my clothes and into my pjs, slipping into bed. I snuggle under the covers. I have been eager to do this all day. I sigh in relief, but my moment of peace is interrupted when my room door bursts open, and Orson walks straight in.
“What do you want?” I snap.
“Why are you so cranky?”
“Because I am tired and have been dealing with your bullshit all day.”
“I was doing my job. You are going to have to get used to it, especially if our lie is going to work. You can’t make it obvious you hate me.”
God, I forgot about that for a moment! It's another stupid thing to add to the list.
“I will deal with it when it comes, but until then, I want peace from you. Why did you come in here?”
“I wanted to see if you wanted to go down and grab some dinner. We haven’t had anything since breakfast.”
I shake my head. “I can’t be bothered. I will order room service.”
He sighs, seeming disappointed. “Okay. I will do the same then.”
He leaves my room. Is he upset I rejected his dinner invitation? If he is, I don’t understand why. He doesn’t like spending his time with me in the same way I don’t like spending mine with him. I refuse to feel bad. Instead, I get comfortable and decide to take a nap. If I am sleeping, I don’t need to think about anything. I want to enjoy my next few days of freedom before I sign my life and soul over to the devil. Maybe it is an overreaction, but it isn’t far from the truth. It is going to feel like hell.
I groan, pulling the covers over my face. I close my eyes and clear my thoughts of everything and anything. All I want is sleep, nothing else. With any luck, I will sleep until the morning.
