Chapter 107: The Two Generals
"Mom, Dad, it's time to wake up; it's almost nine o'clock!"
As they thought they had closed their eyes, Ruby's voice cried out from beyond the door early the next morning, following a sleepless night.
"Liam, get up!" Amelia, startled awake, quickly sat up and then swung her legs off the bed.
However, the moment her feet touched the floor, she collapsed into a seated position as her legs gave way.
"Amelia, what's wrong?" Liam woke and asked with concern, seeing her condition.
"What do you think!" Amelia retorted playfully, "You've worn me out."
"It's because you're so irresistible," Liam said with a grin. "It seems, later on, it was you who..."
The previous evening had indeed been wild, continuing until the early hours of the morning.
At first, Amelia was a bit reserved, with Liam taking the initiative, but later, Amelia became a passionate one. "Don't say another word!" Amelia's cheeks flushed, "Or I might just say no next time!"
With a cheeky smirk, Liam teased, "Then, I won't say another word, or we might end up with nothing fun to do tonight,"
"Tonight again? No way, I need at least a month to recover," Amelia exclaimed with feigned shock, prompting a hearty laugh from Liam.
After more playful banter, they dressed and stepped out of the room, greeting Matthew and his wife.
"Mom, Dad, you slept till now?" Ruby came running over.
"Mom and Dad were just so tired from moving; that's why we slept in," Liam explained with a chuckle as he lifted Ruby into his arms.
"Did you not sleep well?" Avery asked with a knowing smile.
Amelia gave her a mock glare.
"Liam, Amelia, come have breakfast," Kimberly said, her eyes twinkling knowingly as she looked at them.
"Thanks, Mom!" Liam said with a smile as he set Ruby down.
Soon after they finished breakfast, Liam and Amelia took Ruby to a neighborhood playground.
"Daddy, I want to swing! Will you come to play with me?" Ruby exclaimed with delight as they arrived at the playground.
"Sure thing!" Liam replied with a smile, leading Ruby over to the swings.
"Higher, Daddy, higher!" Ruby cried out excitedly after she got on.
"Alright, make sure you hold on tight!" Liam chuckled.
"Ruby, hold on tight, and be safe," Amelia called out from the side.
Amelia watched, a warm hue of happiness on her face, as father and daughter enjoyed their time together. These tender moments had filled her dreams for years. She was a woman content with life's simple pleasures, happy for the family to be together, regardless of whether times were lean.
Her dream had finally come true!
Still, Liam had given her much more than just this!
Happiness had come so unexpectedly that it felt like a dream.
"Mommy, let's play on the slide. Will you play with me?" Ruby yelled after a while on the swings.
"Of course, let's go together!" Amelia said with a smile, walking toward the slide with her.
After nearly two hours of fun filled excitement at the park, Ruby would have continued if not for the sweat on her brow and Amelia was worried that she may catch a cold.
As they approached their villa, Liam's brows furrowed slightly.
"What's wrong, honey?" Amelia noticed his expression.
"It's nothing!" Liam replied with a casual smile. "Honey, you go ahead with Ruby; I'll be right up."
"Is something the matter?" Amelia pressed.
"Just need to grab some smokes," Liam said, dismissing the concern with another smile.
"Okay, but hurry up; it's almost dinner time," Amelia responded.
"I’ll be quick!" Liam nodded.
Amelia then led Ruby by the hand into their yard.
Once they entered the villa's foyer, Liam turned and walked toward the community's main gate, a cold glint flickering in his eyes.
"Show yourself; I know you're there!" Liam called out after walking about a hundred meters.
"You certainly live up to your name, Marshal Thompson," an elder voice said, admiration tinged with surprise. "Even wounded, your sensory perception is impressive."
Two figures emerged from the shadows, both over sixty, with plain features and dressed simply, unremarkable at first glance.
"Two generals!" Liam addressed them, cooly. "I'm flattered you think so highly of me."
"There's probably no one in the world who would dare to look down on the King of the West!" one of the silver-haired elders replied with a faint smile.
"This place is no good. Let's move!" Liam spoke up again.
With a swift motion, he shot out like a shadow, covering hundreds of meters in the blink of an eye.
His adversaries weren't here for pleasantries. This residential area was not the place for a confrontation.
A clash of titans, ones like generals or above, could easily reduce a mansion to rubble with just the aftershocks.
The two elderly men exchanged a glance and moved in pursuit.
About fifteen minutes later, Liam stood at the entrance of an abandoned factory miles away, no sign of agitation on him.
Seconds ticked by, and soon, the two men emerged tens of meters away, their breaths slightly labored.
"If I'm not mistaken, you've come from DC, haven't you?" Liam addressed them calmly.
"You cannot hide anything from Marshal Thompson," the white-haired elder responded after catching his breath.
"So, they're that eager to know if I'm injured? And, if so, how badly?" Liam said with a light smile.
He had a hunch about their origins the moment they showed up.
They bore him ill will but had no intent to kill, obviously here to probe him.
This kind of maneuver could only be orchestrated by folks from DC.
"Marshal Thompson, your well-being is of concern to many, isn't it?" the elder quipped with a smile.
"Aren't you afraid you won't make it back to DC if you step into CUG city?" Liam prodded again.
"Losing two generals at once would surely be a cause for grief, wouldn't it?"
"You're dreaming!" the other elder retorted sternly.
"I admit you're strong, but even if you weren't injured, taking down both of us wouldn't be easy!"
"Besides, with your current injuries, it's even doubtful if you could fight us to a draw."
"You're an idiot!" A voice laced with contempt suddenly cut through the air.
It was then that two blurred figures dashed forward. It was Robert and Mike, both radiating intense fighting spirit.
