Chapter 100: The Nelson Family Heir
Thud!
Ashford slumped to the floor, his body trembling, drenched in a cold sweat, his face a mask of horror.
He couldn't believe it—Liam Thompson had just killed Abigail!
"I was wrong, truly wrong! Please, spare my life, I beg you," he stammered, pleading as he frantically bowed his head over and over.
Now he had no doubt that Liam Thompson would take his life just as easily!
"You're the big shot of the Nelsons?" Liam Thompson casually took a seat on the sofa. “You’ve got thirty minutes to get your people to bail you out.”
After speaking, he pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a drag.
Upon hearing this, a glimmer of hope flashed in Ashford’s eyes, and he quickly pulled out his phone to make the call.
Meanwhile, before Amelia had even stepped into this office...
In an estate located in the east side of the city, Beaumont, head of the Nelson family in CUG City, was waiting in a grand hall, a private property owned by the Parker family’s Shane.
Beaumont’s purpose was clear: he came to seek favor from Shane, trying to leverage his energy to propel the Nelson family to the top echelon of CUG City.
Following the fall of the Reed, Parker, and Brown families, several second-tier clans had become active, stirring for their rare chance to ascend.
And all of CUG City knew that, at present, the two most influential figures were Bruce of the Hawa Group, and Master Eighth.
Thus, the ambitious clans were scrambling, using all their wits to convey alliance proposals to these two power players.
The Nelsons, being top contenders among the city's second-tier families and only one step behind the big three, were also the most promising candidate to rise as CUG City's foremost powerhouse.
“Mr. Beaumont,” Eagle greeted, arriving moments later, “so sorry to keep you waiting; please come in!”
With a slight bow, Beaumont replied, “Thank you, Eagle.”
Two minutes on, they were sitting in a drawing room.
“My apologies for the wait; hope you can forgive my oversight,” Shane, seated in a position of authority, welcomed Beaumont.
"Mr. Beaumont, you flatter me too much!" Beaumont bowed in response, "It's actually me who's come to disturb you, Mr. Shane!"
Despite his status as head of the Beaumont family, he knew better than to act too familiar in front of Shane.
He was deeply aware that Shane was far beyond just the underground kingpin of the Parker family in CUG City. Shane had ties that couldn't simply be matched by anyone from the Beaumont family.
"Ha, Mr. Beaumont, you're too kind," Shane gestured towards the couch. "Please, take a seat!"
"Thank you, Mr. Shane!" Beaumont settled down and from his pocket, he produced a check, placing it on the coffee table: "Just a small token of my respect, I hope you'll accept it!"
"What's the meaning of this, Mr. Beaumont?" Shane glanced at the check with its nine zeroes, narrowing his eyes slightly.
"Mr. Shane, I've long wished to forge ties with you," Beaumont took a deep breath before continuing.
"I was just worried you wouldn't care for an alliance with the likes of me, hence my delay in visiting. Please, take no offense!"
"Mr. Beaumont, you give me too much credit," Shane replied, taking a sip from his cup. "I'm just a simple man, I couldn't possibly accept such a generous offering!"
He knew in his heart that such money was dangerous to take. Ever since the downfall of the three major families, he had been warned to tread cautiously in these trying times.
"Mr. Shane, I'll cut to the chase," Beaumont paused before speaking again.
"You're probably more aware than I am, Mr. Shane, that CUG City is teeming with opportunities right now. I'm looking to form an alliance with you, to seize these opportunities together."
"Of course, how we split the profits is up to you!"
"Mr. Beaumont," Shane said, setting his cup down, "you think too highly of me. I'm not interested in that particular piece of the pie. You might want to seek a partnership elsewhere."
"Mr. Shane," Beaumont was momentarily taken aback.
Ring-a-ling!
He didn't get to finish his sentence before his cell phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, it was from his son. With a slight frown, he rejected the call.
Just as he was about to set the phone down, it rang again.
"Excuse me, Mr. Shane, I need to take this," Beaumont said, his brow furrowing once more.
"Go ahead, Mr. Beaumont, take your time!" Shane, lighting a cigar nonchalantly, said.
"What's up?" Beaumont asked brusquely after answering.
"Dad, someone's trying to kill me," the panicked voice of Ashford came through the phone. "If you don't get to the office in half an hour, you'll never see me again."
"Huh?!" Beaumont paused, bewildered. "What's going on?"
Whatever Ashford explained on the phone, two minutes later, an irate Beaumont said, "Tell him to wait, I'll be there ASAP!"
After hanging up, he turned to Shane.
"I'm terribly sorry, but my son's run into some trouble. I need to leave, but I'll make sure to visit you another time."
"In CUG city, who would dare cross the Beaumonts?" Shane remarked casually.
"Some hothead, thinks he can threaten my son over a girl. Thinks he can walk all over the Beaumonts!" Beaumont stood up in a huff.
"Oh?" Shane paused, his curiosity piqued. "Who is he?"
"I'm not sure yet!" Beaumont shook his head. "Seems like some guy linked to the Harris family's eldest daughter."
Clang!
Shane’s wrist flicked, and his cup fell to the floor. "You sure?"
"Do you know him?" Seeing Shane's reaction, Beaumont was somewhat surprised.
"Mr. Beaumont, you better hope your dear son hasn’t caused too much damage," Shane said, getting to his feet and heading towards the door.
"Where are you going?" Beaumont asked, baffled once more.
"If you don't hurry, it won’t just be your son at risk – the whole Beaumont clan could be in jeopardy!" Shane declared gravely.
A pea-sized bead of sweat rolled down Beaumont's forehead.
A deep sense of unease surged through Beaumont, his right eyelid twitching uncontrollably.
In less than half an hour, Shane, Eagle, and Beaumont made their way into Ashford's office. But the sight that greeted them—the guards sprawled on the floor and Abigail, who was beyond any help—sent Beaumont into an uncontrollable shiver. This was far worse than he had anticipated!
"Dad, what took you so long? If you were any later, you might not have seen your son alive!" The presence of his father emboldened Ashford.
He was jolted by Liam Thompson's skills, yet he was no weakling himself. He was confident that he could take down Liam Thompson. But when he saw his father come alone, he was stunned, "Dad, why didn't you bring backup?"
Before he could finish, Beaumont took a few steps forward and kicked him to the ground. The blow was fierce; Ashford curled up, retching uncontrollably.
Without a moment's hesitation, Beaumont knelt before Liam Thompson, who sat calmly on the couch, his body trembling violently.
"Mr. Thompson, I'm s-sorry, I've failed to discipline my son, please, forgive us," Beaumont begged.
