Chapter 80: Show Her How Much You Love Her
Antonio
15 minutes earlier
Whoever made this shield must have been extremely capable. Just keeping the rip open not only consumed a substantial amount of my magic, but also all my upper arm strength. The shield constantly fought back with its desire to heal the rip. If I search my parents’ books I might be able to find something similar…
“It’s Antony, right?” The alpha pup asked.
I shook my head. “Antonio.”
“Oh, sorry. My bad.”
I nodded but kept silent. It took him a second, but he finally got to the reason why he started this conversation.
“Does she ever mention me when we’re around?” He asked.
“We talk about her time with you openly. I’ve heard a few things, but nothing inappropriate.”
“Oh.” His mouth stretched into a smile. “She talked about me.”
“There is something you want to say.”
He sighed. “It’s nothing that you need to be bothered with.”
“If you let it out, isn’t it easier than holding it in? Whatever you have to say will not be worse than anything I have heard from my clients.”
A breeze passed by, tossing our hair to and fro. Glen brushed it out of his face.
“There is nothing stopping Cindy from rejecting me,” Glen said. “Since the moment we became best friends, she never showed any signs of seeing me as more than that. Not a single hint. What I want to know, to be frank, is how did you get her to like you?”
I found myself chuckling. He rolled his eyes. “I’m being serious.”
“I know,” I replied. “I didn’t. She is completely capable of expressing her interest when the moment arises. That’s how we met. However, if you want to ignite her love, then let it be known. From what I’ve noticed, Cindy isn’t the type who likes when people play games. But pretend to be what you think she needs.”
Glen stood still as if he had been hit with realization. He pinched his chin, eyes pointed downwards.
“That makes sense,” he muttered. “The thing is, will that be enough?”
“There is no way for sure to make her fall in love with you,” I told him. “But there are a hundred ways you can express your love for her.”
Glen tucked his hands into his pockets, looking far away into the sparse forest. “I've never looked at stuff from that perspective before. Growing up in a Beta's house we were always told to do things in moderation. There will be moments in the future where we will have to put someone else's needs over our own. Not look out for our best interest.”
“You don't have to do that now.”
He shook his head with a chuckle. “I think I know why Cindy likes you. You're a bad influence.”
“I prefer the term ‘enthusiastic enabler’,” I said with a straight face.
Suddenly, Glen turned around and squinted his eyes. He shrugged, expression shifting as if he were trying to relay a message. I glanced in the direction he looked.
Cindy was at the window, mouthing something. Whatever Glen witnessed made him tense.
His face hardened and he tapped on my shoulder. “There are some men coming. There's something off about them.”
I couldn't turn my head all the way around, so I used my mind's eye.
I closed my eyes. The black out around me, appearing in my mind as colors with different shapes. I locked on to the only shapes that were moving.
They were humanoid purple figures, white outlines showed that they were touched by the moon. Shifters. Wolf shifters.
“Hurry! Go inside and get them out of there.”
“Is it..?”
“It's exactly what you think it is. I'll keep the rip open but I might have to close it if you don't hurry.”
He didn’t hesitate a second longer. Glen ran towards the house. After he disappeared inside, I already knew it was too late. They were getting close enough to spot me. With a sigh, I relinquished control and closed the rip, trapping them inside.
Then, I prepared.
The men were chatting happily, one of them munching on a chicken wing, until they spotted me. They sprinted towards the gate. I kept my expression neutral despite the glasses hiding half of my face.
“Hey you!” One of them shouted. “Back away from that door or you're gonna answer to me.”
I slowly lifted my head, acting relieved.
“Oh good, you're here. He never told me that I would have to wait this long to see you.”
“Cut the shit. This is private property.”
“I know, I'm here for you. Well technically, I'm here to deliver something to Roger Bryce.”
I reached inside my jacket and summoned a sealed envelope from my pocket. Presenting it to them, I said, “This is for him. He knows what it is. I wouldn't recommend opening it unless you enjoy being cursed for generations.”
He was about to take it but withdrew his hand when I mentioned the part about being cursed. He looked me up, scowling at my all black attire.
“I haven't seen you around these parts.” He scratched the corner of his beard. “What did you say your name was again?”
“You've never seen me but you might have been my boss. I'm just the messenger. He informed me that this was supposed to be delivered to the councilman right away so if you don't mind-”
Some phone’s ringtone interrupted the conversation. I stopped in my tracks. I looked over my shoulder. Allister, Cindy, Reiss and Glen were all there trying to sneak out a side window. Glen was desperately trying to silence his phone.
“Fck,” I muttered under my breath.
I forced my palms into the faces of each guard. “Ontluiken, verwijderen!”
Both their eyes rolled to the back of their heads. They dropped to the ground like lifeless puppets.
I lowered myself on one knee and grabbed the closest one’s neck. My forefinger and my middle finger made contact with the unconscious man’s forehead. “Verwijderen!”
Green energy manifested at the point where our skin made contact. Once it disappeared, I moved on to the next person and repeated the spell.
“Clȳsan!”
With the final spell, my work was done. Their eyes had returned to their previous position. With a wave of my hand, their eyes were shut.
