Chapter 136: new beginning
Cara’s pov
One week later.
The war was over. Derek and his cohorts have been defeated. And following his death His remaining warriors had fled seeing that their commander was gone.
I was told that we chased them through the great woods, making sure that we weakened their forces, even as they fled deep inside the great woods. That was as good as dead, and because of that, we had stopped pursuing them.
We were back to the east. Our home is currently in Brian's former pack. Everywhere was a beehive of activities as the pack was being rebuilt. From my position, I could see Garreth. His loyalty and dedication to his duty are worthy of commendation. He is directing some pack members on what to do.
Also, there is Emily and Emma, with their mates. They have survived the war. They are in control of their people and together helping to rebuild the mafian wolf pack.
“Enjoying the view” I turned, at the sound of the voice. It was Alpha alexander.
His body was covered in earth from all the work.
“There is not much to enjoy here” I replied softly, looking at the still incomplete pack that was still a shell of its former glory.
“We won the war, and you especially are the reason for that. You led us to victory. at least that is a good thing”
I sighed. Speechless on what to say. We won the war but at what cost. Many people lost their lives in this war, Debby, an innocent soul, had also lost her life. My parents had also lost their lives in the genesis of it all.
“Just know that we are beside you, and we have your back” Taking my hands, Alpha Alexander comforted me.
It felt kind of strangely comforting. Not the weird type, but a feeling of not being alone washed over me. Maybe he is right, I am not alone.
After he left,I continued to stare at the people working down below. I didn’t notice him coming behind me until I felt his hands snake through my waist.
“Miss me, much” he asked, his deep voice sending tingling down my spine.
I ached my neck closer to him. Breathing in his manly and heavenly scent. It just smells good. A perfect remedy for my troubling heart.
Ever since I almost died, Brian had changed completely. He is now all clingy and touchy, like as if something different had happened to him while I was gone.
Speaking of something different. I touched my neck, I was tender from where Brian had bit me to complete the mating bond when I was down. In so doing, by feeding me his blood, I was able to heal from the magical injury that Derek inflicted on me.
“Don't think too much, you did well , I am proud of you as my mate”. I could see the pride on his face. It was overflowing like a river.
I nodded, leaning into his touch, which was both comforting and intoxicating at the same time. I had thought I had lost him. That he had died when he faced all the alphas by himself during the time the mafian wolf pack was attacked. It had felt like my world was falling apart. But thankfully, he is here beside me, whole and healthy.
Brian kisses distracted me from my swirling thought. Before I knew it, it turned to full-blown make-out.
His strong hands held me still, unwilling to leave me. I tilted my head, deepening the kiss. His mouth was hot and intoxicating, making me want for some more. I couldn’t get enough of him.
I needed more.
“Luna, the commander and the envoys are seated for the past one hour” a servant voice interrupted our moment.
Brian had a guilty face suddenly. “I…I forgot to deliver the message, I think” he said, scratching his head in embarrassment.
Tha grand tent was filled to the brim with dignitaries and envoy.all of them were the heads of all the werewolf packs that are located in the whole of Ellorin. Both east and west.
The air was thick with tension. But alll of it was nothing. It didn't matter, and no one dared to say otherwise. Most of them had a look of adoration and fanaticism on their faces, like they couldn't wait to kneel to clean my foot.
All the factions in Ellorin had gathered for this great conference. Even those who didn't accept before seeing that the western army had been defeated had no choice but to come running with their tail in between their legs. Now they were those that all had nervous looks and couldn't sit comfortably even on the comfortable chairs that were made available.
“All stand to welcome the grand commanders”
The loud voice of Garreth sounded around the tent as everybody stood up to welcome Brian and I into the conference room. They continued to stand until we sat down on the designed elevated stage that is set up for us, the grand commanders. This was a gathering of all the powerful people in Ellorin, but they all stood for us.
The purpose of the conference is to discuss how to manage Ellorin now that the head of the strongest pack in the west, Derek , is dead.
Actually, the main deal is to have all the power structures to come into obedience and swear allegiance to me and Brian. Judging from their nervous and uncomfortable expressions, they already know that either they swear allegiance to us or face the consequences.
I stood up slowly from my majestic seat, my eyes peering all around the seated guest.
“Let the 1st ever conference to be held in Ellorin begin”
Raising my hands, I declared the conference open.
Five months later
The gentle breeze brushed against my skin as I stood on the balcony, my hands resting on the railing. The sparkling lake stretched out before me, reflecting the hues of the setting sun. It was as if the universe had painted this moment just for us, a symbol of the peace we had fought so hard to achieve.
Brian stood beside me, his hand lightly brushing against mine, his gaze fixed on the horizon. Despite his stoic exterior, I could see the pride in his eyes, the relief that had settled into his shoulders.
It had been five months since the war ended, five months of rebuilding, healing, and redefining what Ellorin would become. The construction of the Mafians’ pack lands was finally complete, a massive testament to Brian’s vision and dedication. It wasn’t just a pack, it was a home, a sanctuary where wolves from all over could find a place to belong, no matter if you are a rogue or not.
“This view never gets old,” Brian said, his voice breaking the silence.
I smiled, my hand instinctively moving to rest on my belly. “No, it doesn’t,” I murmured. “It feels… surreal, doesn’t it? To think of where we started and where we are now.”
Brian turned to me, his eyes softening as they settled on my growing bump. “We’ve come a long way,” he said, his voice filled with quiet wonder. He reached out, placing a protective hand over mine. “And now, we’re building something even greater.”
I looked up at him, my heart swelling with love. “Our family,” I whispered.
His lips curved into a rare smile, one that was meant only for me. “Our family,” he echoed.
The first conference had ended months ago, bringing together leaders from across Ellorin. They had sworn their fealty to us, recognizing Mafians wolf pack as the cornerstone of this new era. For the first time in generations, the West no longer held the uncontested power. Brian had chosen to remain loyal to the pack he built with his own hands, the pack that had become his legacy.
The Cupbearers, too, had found their freedom. No longer hunted or feared, they were protected under the new laws we had established.
“Do you think it will last?” I asked the question that often lingered in my mind.
Brian’s arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me close. “It will,” he said firmly. “Because we’ll make sure it does.”
I leaned my head against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. It was a sound that grounded me, a reminder of how far we had come and the life we were building together.
The war was over. The scars it left behind would take time to fade, but for the first time, Ellorin had hope.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the lake in shades of gold and crimson, I felt a deep sense of contentment.
“I never thought I’d have this,” I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper. “A home. A family. Peace.”
Brian pressed a kiss to the top of my head. “You deserve it, Cara. All of it. And I’ll spend the rest of my life making sure you have it.”
Tears pricked my eyes as I looked up at him, my mate, my partner, my everything. “I love you,” I said, the words carrying all the gratitude and joy I felt.
“And I love you,” he replied, his voice steady and unwavering.
As we stood there, overlooking the peaceful lake and the bustling pack below, I felt a sense of closure. The battles we fought, the sacrifices we made, the love we found, it had all led us here.
The future was uncertain, but for the first time, it didn’t scare me.
With Brian by my side and our child growing within me, I knew we could face whatever came next. Together.
And as the stars began to dot the night sky, I allowed myself to dream of the life ahead, a life filled with love, peace, and endless possibilities.
The stars seem to sing.
“This was just the beginning.”
