Chapter 193: The Voice That Isn't Her

“Prophecies are not written in ink. They are carved in betrayal.”

AMARENTHE’S POV

The void had no shape.

No edge.

No time.

Only presence.

When I was taken, it didn’t feel like being pulled.

It felt like being remembered by something ancient — something that had been waiting for me to fall asleep so it could speak in my voice.

I didn’t dream in the void.

I echoed.

I echoed him.

Calyrehn didn’t have a form.

But he had a voice.

And he wore it like a crown.

He whispered to me in syllables that bled.

And his message was always the same:

“Say nothing. Let them guess. Let them fear what they can’t name.”

So when I returned…

I said nothing.

Because I knew the moment I did.

He would speak through me.

KAI’S POV

She hadn’t said a word since she came back.

She hadn’t cried.

Hadn’t flinched.

She just sat in the hall where the Moon altar once stood, drawing circles with her fingertip across the ash-covered floor.

Sia—no, Aurenna—stood by the wall, arms crossed, watching.

Kiara knelt beside Amarenthe, whispering soft questions.

But the girl stayed silent.

Eyes wide.

Not empty — aware.

Too aware.

I looked at Sia.

“What do we do?”

She didn’t answer.

Instead, she asked Kiara to fetch the old moon scrolls — the ones Kai’s father had forbidden them to read.

That was the first sign.

That she already knew.

AURENNA’S POV

I knew the scrolls existed.

What I hadn’t known was why they were hidden.

Until I unrolled the first one.

It wasn’t a prophecy.

It was a pact.

Signed in my father’s name.

Sealed in Kai’s father’s blood.

And written in a language so old only the dead should have been able to read it.

But I understood every word.

Because they were written for me.

“Calyrehn was a contingency,” I said aloud.

Kai looked up, tense. “What does that mean?”

“It means… he was created to guard my bloodline. To silence any awakening. To erase the ones who remembered.”

I held up the scroll.

And pointed to the last line.

“Should the child remember, the god will rise from within her seed.”

My hand dropped.

“He’s not coming from outside.”

I looked at Amarenthe.

“He’s already here.”

KIARA’S POV

I’ve never feared a child until that moment.

Amarenthe didn’t move.

But her lips parted.

And someone else’s voice spoke.

Male.

Ancient.

“You were warned, Aurenna. You broke the pact. And now the last moon will drown.”

Then silence.

Her mouth closed.

And she blinked like nothing had happened.

KAI’S POV

It took everything in me not to reach for my blade.

But I couldn’t hurt her.

Even if she was being used.

Even if she was already host.

Because she was still my daughter.

And because I remembered now.

It came back to me in shards.

My father’s last words before he died.

“The door must never open. The name must never be spoken. Not Aurenna’s. Not his.”

But I had spoken it.

And the door… I’d forgotten there even was one.

Until the ground beneath the old throne cracked.

And a spiral staircase revealed itself.

Below the Ruins

The chamber was older than the pack house.

Older than the bloodlines.

The walls weren’t stone — they were bone.

Carved, stitched, reinforced.

And at the far end of the chamber…

A door of obsidian.

With a single name etched in silver fire.

AURENNA.

Beneath it, a second line in Kai’s father’s handwriting:

“If this name is remembered, all gods fall. Including her.”
