Chapter 189: Split Between Stars
“What the gods name prophecy, the heart names betrayal.”
SIA’S POV
The thorn-forged blade hummed, hovering between us — its tip aimed not at Kai, but at me.
The goddess’s voice coiled like smoke around my ears.
“One of you must die for her to rise.”
I didn’t ask who.
I already knew.
I looked at Kai.
His grip on my hand didn’t loosen.
But his silence said everything.
The ground beneath us rippled with something ancient. Power older than choice. Older than time. A contract written in blood before we were even born.
“You were never meant to love each other,” the goddess whispered. “You were vessels. Flesh. Pathways.”
“We are more than what you made us,” I snapped.
She smiled.
And I hated how much it looked like mine.
KAI’S POV
I had faced monsters.
Witches.
Rogues.
My own father’s corpse.
But nothing had prepared me for the look in Sia’s eyes right now.
Torn between defiance and grief. Between fury and surrender.
She thought she was going to die for this.
And for the first time in my life…
I didn’t know if stopping her would save us — or doom everything.
The goddess stepped forward, her presence bending the air.
“You want her safe,” she said. “Then choose. Let her awaken. Let one of you fall.”
I pulled Sia behind me.
But the moment I did.
The blade moved to me.
Sia screamed.
The goddess laughed.
“You still think love changes fate,” she whispered.
AMARENTHE’S POV
It was too loud.
Too bright.
I wasn’t meant to be awake yet.
But their voices pulled me up.
The blade.
The threat.
The truth of my name.
Amarenthe.
Not Solara.
Not daughter.
Flame. Fracture. Firstborn of a forgotten moon.
I saw them.
My mother and father.
Screaming at the sky, standing between a goddess and a death neither of them deserved.
And I—
I had to choose.
I stepped through the veil of the Divide’s heart.
The realm trembled.
And the goddess turned to me.
“You remember,” she said, tilting her head.
“Yes,” I said.
My voice was not a child’s anymore.
Not fully a god’s, either.
But something in between.
“I remember everything.”
SIA’S POV
When she appeared.
My knees buckled.
Not because I didn’t know her.
But because I did.
It was Solara’s face.
But her eyes…
They belonged to something not born of this earth.
“Solara,” I whispered.
She looked at me gently.
“I’ll always be your daughter,” she said. “Even if I’m something more.”
The goddess hissed.
“You defy your own creation?”
“I choose my own story,” Amarenthe replied. “And I won’t rise over their corpses.”
She raised her hand.
And the blade shattered midair.
The sound tore across the Divide like thunder.
The goddess screamed.
But Amarenthe only stared.
“This ends now,” she said.
KAI’S POV
It happened in an instant.
The goddess lunged.
Amarenthe did not move.
But the air around her did.
It clenched.
And for the first time.
The goddess bled.
A ribbon of black, thick and shimmering, spilled from her side.
She staggered.
Eyes wide.
“You—”
“I was never yours,” Amarenthe said.
Then turned to us.
“I bought us time,” she whispered. “But the war isn’t over.”
I stepped forward.
“What happens now?”
Amarenthe looked past me.
Her voice was suddenly distant.
Soft.
“Now… I go where no light touches. And I shut the gate behind me.”
Sia sobbed.
“No.”
“I’m not dying,” Amarenthe promised. “But I am becoming.”
She kissed our foreheads.
The ground opened.
And she stepped into the void.
Where stars were born from ash.
And the twin goddesses' war would finally be decided.
