Chapter 12

CHAPTER TWELVE

VALTOR’S POV

“I hadn't an idea what you're talking about Valtor.” Lady Brooke muttered avoiding eye contact.

She showed me no emotion and I could get nothing off her scent, she was excellent in hiding it.

“I think otherwise Lady Brooke, you see, it came to my knowledge that one of your..lackeys has spread word of I and Miss Larkspur being mates?”

“That's atrocious Valtor,” she slowly chuckled, placing her arms behind her back. “You should know by now how this Academy is with their gossip, all sorts of funny things going around.”

“Even one this specific?” I stopped her and she eyed me.

“So what exactly are you getting on,child?” She said with a cold demeanor and annoyance in her eyes. “That I who has a million better things to do would send one of my lackeys to spread a rumor on a girl I hardly know?”

I didn't utter a word. She was right, it didn't make any sense but the facts were still there and my Delta never lied.

“My apologies Lady Brooke.”

“Besides, that girl belongs to the Sanctum whether your mate or not…we're saving her for a greater cause, so what would be the point of any of the accusations you just made?”

“I overstepped, do accept my apologies.”

“Hmm,” she uttered before turning and striding into the academy. I had my suspicions and Lady Brooke had a lot more than she was letting off but one thing still stood. Something was against Indigo and I just didn't know what yet.

I had to protect her.

I had completed my daily tasks, when an Alpha had no classes we could focus on pack matters. My pack's caretakers insisted I stayed back but the comfort of the Academy was synonymous to me.

The full moon was coming.

I could feel it, I was keeping my arousal to a minimum by taking some sedatives but for the fact I could still feel it was more than alarming.

I had to find Indigo and ensure our union under the moon. I bumped into Laqir on the way and it was notable he wasn't in a good mood. That could've been the least of my concerns but I got her scent off him.

“Where is she?” I stopped him, holding him by the arm.

“Don't bother yourself,” he grunted, breaking from my hold. “She's made her choice.”

“What do you mean?” I asked perplexed and he slid his hands in his pockets turning away to leave. “She chose Gage to be her mate.” He said and left.

I felt my heart sink.

What did that punk have that I didn't? I scoffed, anger was an understatement, I had to find her.

As I approached her hostel I already got a whiff of her, she was everywhere, she had to know how to mask her scent.

Her back was forced towards me, mixed with her sweet scent, I smelt smite and anger and wondered who she was talking to…

Winter.

The girl with the faintest color of blonde hair that almost looked white, skin pale. I knew her mother well, from years ago, a necromancer who played with ice magic then passed it on to her daughter.

And apparently this girl before us loved me.

She was also bad at masking her scent.

“Pro–Professeur Valtor!” Winter called out with a light blush to her cheeks.

Indigo turned back already pissed. “Don't get in the way,” she said. I ignored her and turned to Winter.

“Professor Valtor, I did no such thing I swear.” She broke, close to the brink of tears.

“I know, leave for now let me handle this.”

With a look that held nothing back she turned and trotted away.

“Hey!” Indigo shouted to get my attention and I looked towards her, “what the heck was that for? I was handling it.”

“That's what you called handling it? If you didn't know your powers are closely associated with your emotions, if I came any later you could have hurt her.”

She stopped with a worried face looking back at the direction Winter ran off from. “You don't want to hurt her do you?”

“I'm no good at making friends.” She confessed sadly, her gaze to the floor.

“That's not true.”

“Then why would she do that to me?” She looked up at me, eyes glistening with tears. “I've tried so hard to fit in but nothing ever works,” her voice cracked up. I drew her into a hug, clasping her small body in my large arms.

“And that's why I want to protect you Indigo, you and only you. I want to be on your side, I want to be your friend. Can't you let me do that for you?”

“You're lying…you've been nothing but mean to me so far.”

“And I apologize.”

“I've already chosen Gage to be my mate, he'll protect me.”

I faced her, “you really believe Gage alone can protect you?”

“What do you mean by that?” She sniffed, cleaning back her tears.

I looked around, “we can't talk here.”

She closed the door behind us, removing her hoody that covered her luscious hair. “What do you want to talk about?” She had gotten back her composure and it seemed she wanted to get right down to business.

“Winter was not the one who spread that rumor.”

“What?” She exclaimed with surprise, “then who did?”

“At first I thought it was lady Brooke..”

“Lady Brooke?”

“Yes, but it might not have been her, but whoever this is will not stop at making your time here very very hard. And the fact you still haven't mastered your abilities I can't say you'll be able to protect yourself for every thing that may come.”

Her body tensed up and she wanted to panic but I I took her hand in mind. “You don't have to worry, as I said, I will do everything in my power to protect you.”

“Why me?” This time, she broke out into full blown tears.

“There's a saying that goes, ‘the Goddess gives her toughest battles to her strongest soldiers’.”

“But I'm not strong.”

“You will be. I'll make sure of that.” I brushed some strands of her hair behind her ear and cupped her face. She was marvelous.

Full deep red hair, luscious lashes, plump pink lips and the smallest face.

She oddly reminded me of someone.

“Your haircolor…who did you get it from?”

“Neither my father nor mother…my sister doesn't have it either.”

Wasn't that peculiar?

“Valtor, maybe you should go?”

I took a breath in, I wasn't here to do anything more than letting her know, the sedatives were working their part well.

“The full moon is in a few days.”
