Chapter 170
Chapter 170
Sylvia's POV
I shook my head at both of them, and made to walk out of the room.
“Come back here, young lady,” the spike simultaneously and I halted in my steps.
“I don't remember dismissing you just yet, so where exactly do you think you're going to?” She knitted her brows together and I scoffed.
“I don't remember asking for your permission either,”
Thwack!!!! A palm connected to my face, before I could say a word, another one did.
It was Jennifer, “you seem to have forgotten your place Sylvia, that was a subtle reminder, you don't speak unless spoken to,”
I held my cheek, my eyes stinging with tears. And to think of a few months ago I actually thought I was done with this life, I didn't expect to be back here so soon.
“Let me get one thing straight,” I let go of the cheek, and glared daggers at them.
“Am I supposed to just stand here, and watch you two argue about my future like I'm not here at all, I just found out that my father is dead, and I'm supposed to wait to wait for your permission to mourn him as well, come off it,”
“I'll do what you want me to do, but this is the last time you'll ever raise your hand on me, I'm no longer the kid you sent into hiding Jennifer,” I clenched my jaws tightly.
“Splendid,” Queen Usurla burst out, while clapping her hands, “That was so wonderful, and emotional, you brought tears to my eyes,” she made a show of dabbing her eyes with her hand.
Before I could say Jack, she had sped to me, and her hands were on my neck, locked in the strongest grip ever.
I was losing oxygen, and I was sure my face was losing colour, as I tried to push her away from my throat.
“Tsk, seems like you weren't taught etiquette; when your elders are having a conversation, you dare not interrupt,” she tightened her grip, and lifted me off the ground, like I was some kind of rag or something.
“You'll do whatever it is you're asked to do, whenever you're asked to do it, however you are asked to do it,” she spoke slowly, placing emphasis on her words.
She released me, and I landed on my knees, with blood trickling down my nostrils, as I gasped out for breath, still rubbing the throat she had just released. Her nails dug deep into my skin, drawing a thin line of blood from it.
“I make the rules here, do you understand?” She crouched beside me, and gripped my chin forcefully.
“Go,” she nudged at the door, “mourn your deadbeat father, but after that, you'll come back here, and you'll act like the good girl you're supposed to be,”
She threw my head away, and I lowered my gaze.
I scrambled to my feet, and ran away from the room immediately, and headed straight to the cemetery, not minding how tired I was, I needed to say one last goodbye to him. He had been a nice father once upon a time and I chose to focus on the positive, rather than the negative.
I walked to the cemetery with a heavy heart, and no particular location in mind. I couldn't even tell where he was buried,so I would have to go round the cemetery.
I walked around, until I finally got to a freshly dug grave that bore his name on the tombstone. I knelt down before the tombstone, but couldn't say a word.
My heart was just too heavy for me to speak, tears pooled up in my eyes, and with time flowed down my cheeks freely as I hugged the tombstone.
“I'm sorry dad,” I muttered, even though deep down, I wasn't quite sure what I was apologizing for.
If anyone owed anybody an explanation, it was him. But I couldn't help but feel like I played an active role in his death.
As if to prove that the universe was against me as well, it began raining, and heavily as well, I couldn't move, so I just stayed there as my tears mixed up with the rain, till I couldn't feel the rain drops falling on me again. It wasn't possible that the rain had stopped falling only in my spot.
I looked up to find an umbrella over me.
“Here,” the person handed it over to me, while he held his.
Kent.
“Are you planning on dying?” He asked so casually, like he wasn't talking about a grave matter.
“What do you mean by that?” I arched my brows in confusion.
“Why are you at a grave site under the rain if you have no plans of dying?”
I stared at him blankly, my eyes sore from all the crying I had done..
“That's my dad,” I nudged at the tombstone, and he mouthed an “oh,”
“Yeah,” I sighed sadly.
“That still doesn't explain why you're in the rain,” he added calmly, “you could get the flu,”
“Why are you so worried about me?”
“Trust me, I'm not,” he smirked widely, “I'm only trying to make sure you're still alive to carry out the job for which you were brought here,”
I rolled my eyes, and scoffed, as I listened to him.
Guess I had to get used to it. No one valued me for the person I am, they only saw me for the Value I had to give.
This was more or less modern day slavery, but who could I run to?
I couldn't go to Nyx, Jennifer would find it really easy to sell a lie to him quickly, if there was one thing I admired in her, it was the ability to think on our feet in any situation.
She was a master at manipulating people, and she had maximum control over her emotions.
It was really hard to catch her in her own game. It made me wonder if I could ever be free from her grip.
