chapter fourty seven

Tammy's POV

I spent the whole day locked in my room, avoiding Adam. He came knocking and pleading several times, even tried reasoning, but I wouldn't budge. He needs to understand that I am not an object.

I've been on my phone all day, watching some videos and reading books. I even called Grandma Shannon and we had a long conversation.

The reminder that I have someone close to being family, filled me with warmth. Her voice sparked a longing for home, but the only thing that's keeping me back is my mission.

I still haven't discovered anything about the book, or who Arabella, really is. I wish I could get some sort of clue, as to where I can begin my search from.

My stomach makes a growling noise, reminding me that I haven't had anything to eat since morning. I'd been hungry for a while, but every time I wanted to go out to get something, Adam came back to my door.

It was as if he could sense when I was hungry.

I wouldn't be surprised if he could though. I don't know the extent of the powers these werewolves possess.

I finally give in to my hunger, deciding to get something to eat- even if it means I have to encounter Adam on the way.

I stand, my limbs stiff from inactivity, and open the door. My feet collide with something hard, a clanging sound following.

I recoil, a gasp exiting my mouth when I identify the object.

A tray of food.

Bacon and toast. The scent alone makes my mouth water. It's not much, but with the emptiness of my stomach, it looks like a feast.

I wonder who left it here. Doesn't matter, I just know I love the person right now.

I greedily pick up the tray and take it back into my room, using my leg to kick the door shut. I don't bother to use the key this time, too occupied by my hunger.

I down everything in a few minutes, followed by the lukewarm hot chocolate. After everything's settled, I let out a huge burp, and laugh at myself for the sound.

At the same time, a knock sounds at the door and then it swings open. Adam saunters into the room. I almost groan at his interruption of my private time, but I quickly suppress it after seeing the box in his hands.

Pizza! Oh my gosh. He brought me pizza.

"I went to the city for some business, and I thought of getting this for you. I know it's been a while since you had any."

His gaze sweeps over the empty plates on the bed, and a small smile appears on his lips. "I see you're done with this already." He drops the box on the bed and picks up the empty tray. "I was going to swap the food, thinking it might have gotten cold. I didn't expect you to get to it first, you didn't touch any of the food I brought this morning."

My heart does a weird little flipping thing at his thoughtfulness. All this while I'd been starving, he was dropping off food for me. I wish I had opened the door earlier, or listened to him, at least.

"Thank you," I manage, pulling the box closer.

"You're welcome," he replies. "Did you like the lunch I made?"

He made that? Is he trying to buy my forgiveness or something? Because it's definitely working.

"I'm not that great in the kitchen. I hope it wasn't too bad?"

"It tasted okay, I guess," I reply with a shrug, not wanting to give him an ego boost. Although, it tasted amazing.

He chuckles nervously. "Let's just hope you don't get food poisoning."

I laugh. "Trying to poison me isn't a great apology tactic, Adam."

Adam's smile falters. Too soon for such jokes, apparently.

"Tammy-"

"I'm kidding," I cut him off. "I know you didn't do it for that reason, right?"

He nods. "Can we talk? I don't want you to think badly of me, Tammy."

"We'll talk later, I promise. Not now."

Adam sighs but agrees.

I expect him to leave the room, but to my surprise, he takes a sit on the edge of the bed.

I feel his eyes on me, as I open the pizza box and pull out a slice. I turn to him, my brows lifted. "What?"

He shakes his head. "It's nothing."

"Okay." I bite into the pizza slice, closing my eyes as the cheesy, crispy goodness settles in my mouth. "Fuck. This is so good," I moan.

I hear Adam clear his throat beside me, and I open my eyes, turning to face him. His pupils are dilated, and his stare carries so much intensity, it sends shivers running down my spine.

The silence stretches between us, heavy with tension. The room seems to grow hotter, as his stare burns desire in me. Unable to carry the weight of his stare any longer, I swallow the bite in my mouth and set down the pizza slice.

"What is it?" My voice comes out lighter than intended, betraying the desire burning in me.

"I want a slice of your pizza," he says, his voice hoarse.

Of all the things I expected him to say, that didn't even come close. It feels as if I have been turned down.

Still, I offer him a slice, stretching out my hand. "Here."

Instead of taking it off my hand, he lowers his head slowly to the pizza. His eyes remain fixed on mine, as he takes a bite. His actions cause desire, hot and wet, to boil in me.

He swallows the bite in his mouth and then eats the remaining one from my hand, his gaze never leaving mine. I will myself to look away, but I'm unable to.

Once it's finished I retract my hand, but he grips me, bringing my fingers to his mouth and sucking the sauce off them.

A jolt of electricity shoots up my spine as his warm, wet lips wrap around my finger, his tongue teasing.

I close my eyes, tipping my head back, as I relish in the pleasure. I feel his teeth graze the skin of my finger. "Adam," his name slips out of my mouth, a light, feathery gasp.

Suddenly, his movements stop and he pulls away, causing my eyes to snap open.

I stare at him, my heart pounding, wondering what he's going to do next.
