Chapter 74: One Shots-2

"What? What is it?" I started to panic and tried to get up but was overcome with dizziness. "No, no keep lying down! Honey when did you last have your period?" Uh oh. I had bought every possible pregnancy test in the drug store and all of them were positive. That could only mean one thing and that realization knocked the breath out of me. My entire body shook with nerves as I paced the length of my bedroom, watching the door every five seconds to see if Zach would walk in. Pregnant. It was still completely unbelievable, seeing how unplanned this baby was. It had only been about two years since...the accident, and Zach and I had agreed that we wouldn't have kids until I was finished with college but what now? I was just a sophomore, struggling with courses and trying to maintain a decent GPA whilst doing my best to run a house. To say that this news was overwhelming would be an understatement, I was utterly flabbergasted. But that didn't mean that I wasn't happy, of course I was. I wanted this, I wanted to have a family with the guy I loved, and well, even if it happened earlier than planned it still was the best thing to have happened to us. I didn't know how Zach would feel about it but what I did know was that I would tell him the moment he walked through the doors to the house. I had made a huge mistake the previous time by keeping the news from him and this time no such thing would happen. Come hell or high water, Zach would find out about this baby. I nearly jumped out of my skin when I heard the front door being unlocked and the sound of footsteps echoing in the hallway. I sank on the bed, afraid that my trembling legs would give way. Taking deep breaths, I practiced the speech I'd mentally prepared and readied myself for it. As the door creaked open, I brushed my sweaty palms on the comforter and swallowed deeply. "Ari? Is that you?" He sounded tired and worn out as he switched on the lights and focused his eyes on where I was sat on the bed, still in my clothes from college. "Hey." I tried to smile and got up to greet him, wrapping my arms around his waist and hugging him. His arms automatically came around me and he lifted me up slightly so that I stood on my tiptoes. "Hey beautiful, I missed you." He kissed my forehead and I relaxed in his embrace. "Missed you too," I murmured against his shirt. This moment was just too perfect to let go of, I wished we could just stay in it forever but I had some huge news to break. "I really don't want to go to London tomorrow," he sighed as he pulled me impossibly closer, just as I liked it. "I don't want you to go either," I replied softly, dying to add the part where I said 'because I'm pregnant again'. I felt his lips twitch against my skin and I knew he was smiling. He pulled back and smoothed my hair, running his fingers through the knots that I hadn't bothered to brush. "This is going to be the last business trip I take for a long time. Once this is over, it'll be just you and me." He grinned, looking so adorably boyish that it made my heart melt. Okay this it, Ari, tell him, just tell him! "Zach... I-I don't, I don't think you should go tomorrow." His forehead wrinkled with worry as I began twiddling my thumbs. He placed his hand beneath my chin and tilted my face upwards to meet his gaze. "What's wrong?" His hypnotizing grey-blue eyes pierced into mine, demanding answers. "Umm you can't leave, well you can if you want to. I won't stop you because obviously work is important too but I was thinking maybe you could stay because well it'll be better that way and I thought maybe you'd want to be here but again it's totally up to you..." I rambled on and on until Zach pressed his lips to mine, cutting me off. "Better?" he asked as he pulled away after the short kiss. I nodded, that kiss had taken a lot of the nerves away but now my heart was fluttering for an entirely different reason. "So now will you tell me what's bothering you?" Okay. Here goes nothing. "I'm pregnant, Zach," I whispered so softly that I was sure he hadn't heard me but the dazed expression on his face told me otherwise. "What?" he gasped as his grip on me loosened and he backed off a little bit. "I'm pregnant or at least that's what the tests say. I just took them today and they all came out positive." He still looked blown away as he tried to wrap his head around the news. I decided to give him his space seeing as how big the news was and how unprepared we were for it. "But-but how? We use protection and we've always been careful." "I don't know, I guess something must have happened or we didn't pay attention but it's really happening Zach." I looked to him, hoping to find some support in him but he looked so shaken up that it began to scare me. "Zach?" "Just-just give me a second here." He placed his hands on the wall for support and bent his knees. My stomach tightened with knots as I watched his every action, just waiting for the outburst that was going to follow. But when he looked up at me I was surprised to see that his eyes were glistening with moisture and that his face was lit up with a gigantic smile. "I'm going to be a dad?" he beamed and I felt my throat constrict with emotion. How could I have ever doubted him? How could I have ever thought that Zach wouldn't want this child? I loved him and knew him like the back of my hand so how could I have so easily misjudged him? Mentally scolding myself I rushed over to him and jumped on him, wrapping my legs tightly around his waist and burying my face in the crook of his neck. "Yes, you're going to be a dad, Zach!" He hugged me to him and both of us clung onto each other greedily. When we finally pulled back, I found myself sniffing too. Wiping away the tears with the back of my hand, I playfully shoved him in the chest. "You made me cry!" He kissed my cheeks and finally my lips with a long passionate kiss. Touching his forehead to mine, he grinned at me. "And you've just made me the happiest guy on the planet, baby."
