Chapter 47 She is slowly breaking down every wall I ever built.
After I talked to the Beta, the next few days felt a little different. My routines were the same. But the Beta kept showing up out of nowhere to help me with stuff. I was not complaining. Even though his presence was a lot sometimes, I actually started to relax around him. To trust him more.

He showed up during my training and asked to train me himself. I was grateful for that. He is really good at fighting and a great teacher. In just a few days I learned how to dodge an attack. How to start one. A bunch of other useful things for protecting myself. Not that Zara is a bad teacher. But Finn trained me based on what I could and could not do.

He also taught me some pack traditions and rules I did not know about. He made sure I really understood everything and remembered it.

If he had not already told me what his intentions were, I would think he liked me. But that conversation was just between us. His actions and him being around me all the time started rumors. And my very protective brother noticed.

Ethan did not come to ask me about it this time. He went straight to the Beta.

Finn told me that Ethan was all over him a few hours ago. Demanding to know why he was suddenly so interested in me. Finn said he just glared at Ethan and walked away. We both just laughed about it. For once, I was glad to have someone to talk to. Someone I could talk about my mate with.

My mate. It felt so good to say that word. I just wish he was actually mine.

Today we were sitting in a small diner in a town far from our territory. The Beta came with me to find a dress for Alpha Cyrus's party.

After I found one, I dragged him to the first restaurant I saw because my stomach had been growling for thirty minutes. I looked over the menu carefully since I had never been here before. The Beta said he had come here a bunch of times and already knew what he wanted.

Right on time, a tall blonde waitress walked out from the kitchen and came over to us. She smiled at the Beta like she wanted to eat him alive. I had to hold back a laugh. Then she looked at me. Her eyes went up and down my body like she was judging me. "So what do we have here?" She did not look happy to see me.

"The usual for me," the Beta said.

She turned back to him and smiled again. "Of course. That is already handled." Then she looked at me and her face dropped into a frown. "And you?"

"Hmm... give me a minute." I already knew what I wanted. I just wanted to make her wait because she was annoying me. Let her hate me more.

"Are you not Leona?" She asked. Her eyebrows went up.

"You know me? Wow." I was actually surprised. She was not from our pack. So her knowing my name meant something.

"Who would not know you? Everyone talks about the Black Shadow Pack Alpha's playthings." She said it like it was nothing. Like it was just normal conversation.

My nose flared. But the Beta spoke before I could.

"Hey! Watch your mouth!" His voice had anger in it.

"What? I did not say anything wrong. Just the truth." She flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder.

"Hey! I am not his plaything!" I snapped at her. My hands curled into fists. Anger was boiling up inside me.

"I know how the Alpha works," she spat out. Her voice was mean.

"Enough!" Beta Finn slapped his palm on the table. People in the diner started looking at us. But the waitress did not stop.

"I have been there. So if you think you are something special, let me tell you something. You are not. He is going to throw you away once he is done with you. You will never be his princess, darling. So stop dreaming." She leaned closer, putting her palms on the table. I could feel her breath on my face.

"Yeah, you are fucking right. I am not his princess." I raised my fist and punched her right in the jaw with everything I had. "I am his fucking queen!"

She stumbled backward and fell on her butt. I do not think she saw that coming.

"So back off. Because he is mine." I hissed at her.

She screamed when I stood up. She probably thought I would hit her again. But I just grabbed my jacket and walked out. The Beta followed behind me. He looked amused.

"Let us go home. I am not hungry anymore." I told him after I got in his car.

Arel

I have been sitting in my office for four hours. Pissed at everyone. My Beta left me today to go with Leona to the city. And they are not back yet.

Everyone in the pack is talking about how close they have become. Not that I did not notice. I did. Every single time he was not with me, he was with her. I tried to give him so many tasks that he would be too busy. But he always found a way to be with her.

I can not wrap my head around it. No matter how many times he tells me nothing is going on behind my back, I can not stop being jealous.

Jealousy. I am not used to it. But it has been eating me alive lately.

Especially during training. He started getting physical with her. The way he touches her when he is showing her what to do... it looks all wrong. I should be the one doing that. But what pisses me off the most is that I do not have the guts to stop them and take over.

Because of that, Rogue has been giving me headaches. All that anger and growling inside my head. Nothing helps.

I crumpled the paper in my hand and tried to throw it in the trash can three meters away. I missed. Again. For the hundredth time today.

A low growl came out of me just as the office door swung open. My Beta stepped in with a smug look on his face. I turned my chair toward him and waited.

"Alpha." He nodded and then dropped his body onto the couch in the corner.

"Tired already?" I raised my eyebrow at him.

"Apparently. Leona has so much energy. I can not keep up with her."

His words did not sound right to me. My hand curled into a fist just from thinking about them. The image of Leona wrapped up in his arms kept flashing in my mind. I could not control my eyes changing. Rogue wanted to come out and rip my Beta's head off. I felt the same way.

My Beta must have noticed the look in my eyes because his hands went up like he was surrendering. He stood up and walked toward me slowly.

"Whatever you are thinking, man, it was not like that." He explained, keeping his hands up. "It was something else. She punched someone in the face."

"What?" I scowled at him. My fist was still clenched.

"I know she is feisty and impulsive. But I never thought she would actually hurt someone. She hit Crystal. The waitress at Sara's diner." He watched my face, waiting to see how I would react.

"You are confusing me. Why would she hit her?" My forehead wrinkled.

"Because you slept with Crystal once. And she came over and started messing with Leona. She was taunting her. Saying you might be into Leona right now, but you will throw her away when you are done." He shook his head and gave me a disappointed look.

I rubbed my hands over my face. I had no idea if I wanted to kill Crystal or myself for this.

"But that was not all. She said, 'if you think you are his princess, then you are wrong, darling.'" He tried to talk like a girl, which would have been funny if I was not so mad.

"That is when your little mate had enough. She punched Crystal right in the jaw and said, 'yeah, I am not his princess, I am his fucking queen!'" He laughed at his own story. "And then she told her to back off because, well, she said Arel is mine." He added like it was no big deal. But I saw the amusement in his eyes.

"If you had seen Crystal's face after, man, it was worth it. Leona is so small compared to her and she nailed that punch..."

I stopped listening after that. I got lost in my own head.

A smile slowly spread across my face. My hands relaxed. Leona has been giving me so many mixed feelings lately. But one thing is for sure. She is slowly breaking down every wall I ever built.
