Chapter 141

Adrian's POV

A few days passed and I was getting better. I noticed it in the way I did not wear out easily. It felt good to be this good again. Now, I could take on more men and not feel tired.

Few days back, Christian had literally handed me over to Martin for retraining. I called it this term because to me, that was what it was.

Christian had laughed his butt off when I told him I could barely pack a punch anymore.

To outsiders though, it looked like I still had it in me, but I knew myself and I knew that I had declined in my techniques and control.

I took my sessions seriously and did not fail to attend a class.

Martin did not take it easy on me either and I loved that. He had no fear and did his job so professionally and accurately.

Christian had so far done a nice job with these men.

Here, there were no more threats. But, I knew, I needed to find Mia.

Even with our resources, it was taking days. That could mean three things; she had gotten smarter or whoever she was protected by new the workings of this world or she was kidnapped.

I hoped it was the first two rather than the last.

With the last was uncertainty and more destruction.

I had seen Bethany and she had seen me too.

It looked like the fluttering feelings were still there.

“Boss Adrian. It has been a while.” She had said. She had more guts in her now, and I could not fathom if that was a good thing or not.

Hopefully, it was the latter.

“Mia doesn't seem to be coming back anytime soon.” She said, smiling a little.

I had no idea if she was genuinely asking or not. The expression on her face was difficult to read.

I only nodded and moved on to my next activity. I did not have time for chitchat.

I took out my laptop when I got to the lounge to try to find Mia's exact location.

But what if she was okay and I led whoever was on my back right to her? I would never forgive myself for that, seeing as that would be my greatest sin against her. And so, I closed the laptop, hoping and even saying a prayer that she is safe. She had to be, for herself and our child and my sanity. She had to be.

All of these thoughts roamed through my head and my eyes watered at the thought of losing her once again.

It was time to put an end to this threat, to this oppression.

I went to my study, trying to put two and two together.

Andrew had come to talk to me, saying there were people who wanted me gone and needed me to come fight some sort of battle.

I was here now, and somehow, there was no battle.

Well, if they wanted one, I was going to give it to them. I was going to bring it to their doorsteps so that they could feel the heat. The heat of everything that I had felt.

So, I called in Christian and we went over everything together.

The letters. The movements. The threats. The phone calls. The reports.

I checked the accounts too. We had enough money to go against them and we also had enough to beat them if they came in two.

They wanted a fight. They were going to get it!

“How about our men? Are they ready to go?” I asked, raising up my head to look at him.

“They are as ready as they can ever be, boss. Ready to take whosoever on.”

“Alright then. Here we go. I want most of the men and by tomorrow morning, plans should be drawn up for their stations and duties.”

“Yes sir. It is so good to have you back sir.” I only smiled. It was not decided yet that I want to be back, but I was not going to try and correct the notion.

We talked more on the plan and solidified it.

The next morning, all men were prepared. We double-checked to make sure we were well armed and we went ahead to set up our ambush.

The road was a clear path. Not too many people passed through it. We were going to make our move on it and take them all on.

We took with us sandwiches too for strength. I always made sure to feed my men on any mission we embarked on.

Christian had put out a memo, telling who needed to know that we were ready for them.

We arrived at our spot and proceeded to take out place.

We had our hit men on stand.

I was beyond listening range and was not going to try to hear them out anymore. They had disrupted my peace enough.

They came in, to the ambushed circle without knowing. Andrew's men. I knew they were his because I recognised them.

They were other groups too. And I lit them all up.

They deserved it and I did not care how they got out of the situation.

I only wanted to see them in pain and I was fully satisfied.

But then, they had a back up plan.

Andrew in his smartness sent only a select few who were there to test the waters.

More came in and they attacked some of my men.

My men though, being strong stood against them and fought back.

Then, I encountered Andrew. “Yo! You are pissing me off man!” He screamed at me.

“You fucking started this Andrew! When you would not leave my family and I alone!” I screamed back.

“All of this, is your fault. What I do with my life in here and out of here is fucking none of your business. But somehow, you manage to fix yourself in situations that does not concern you. You deserve this and a lot more and I am here to dish it out to you.”

He seemed furious and rushed at me with a punch he was packing. I predicted correctly and dodged it in time and landed him a blow on his right cheek.

He staggered back from the pain, and proceeded to come at me again. This time, he succeeded.

He was strong. That was for sure and I could feel my flesh rippling behind the force of his arm.

The fight went on and I was almost getting beat up. He was over me clawing at me face when I heard the gunshots, I paused in shock, not knowing who had been hit.

He looked down at his stomach, and I looked down too. There was a lot of blood and it was not mine.
