Chapter 144: I am in trouble

Maddox’s P.O.V.

“There’s no message from Mrs. Lockwood.”

What?

It’s been a week since Alpha Harrison’s death, and I didn’t get any update from Lockwood nanny, although it was a part of her duties to send me a complete report through email.

At first, Moira kept me updated as Beta James stayed at the Palace to ensure their safety. Public events like funerals were the favorite timing of enemies to strike because of emotional vulnerability, I couldn’t risk Marcel’s and Kitten’s security at all.

Honestly speaking, I was missing that little wolf, he had become a part of my life just because of his cuteness. I simply wanted them to come back home, this unnecessary separation was getting on my nerves.

Alpha Harrison’s sudden demise had stirred trouble in different parts of the Kingdom, werewolves, and even vampires were worried about the change in alliances.

The disturbance, concealed meetings, and exchange of information among spies indicated that my Kingdom was on the verge of a war after two decades of peace. I walked out of my office’s room to the balcony and took a deep breath, thinking,

“I can smell blood in the air!”

The threatening silence before a storm was the same as any battle I fought before. It wasn’t rocket science to understand that the Werewolves would retaliate with more killing.

Well, I had no issues with sending their Alphas to hell. But my turbulent personal life had weakened my resolution, my lycan was in constant pain.

“Ash has disconnected our link. We are rejected by our Erasthai!”

Zeth cried all day and night, banging his head against the wall of broken link. He even ignored my justifications.

“Prince Edith can hear our conversation through our link. That’s why Kitten has taken this precautionary measure.”

But Zeth shot back at me,

“Then she should block us instead of cutting off the ties.

I am telling you Maddox, if my Erasthai leaves me, I will commit suicide. Then you can play with your throne and power.”

My lycan didn’t leave any stone unturned to paint me as a villain, he cursed me for my inability to win my Kitten’s heart again.

Here I was, stuck in the inner battle with my lycan, and on the other hand, real life’s crisis hit me out of nowhere, turning my deepest dreads into reality.

Beta James came to my office and reported it to me.

“Prince Edith has sent the war invitation, Your Majesty.”

Oh, really?

That Bastard Prince adhered to the old rules and sent me a letter of war, it was shocking.

There must be a hidden agenda behind this move. So, I read that letter.

“Greetings, King Maddox.”

My head blew away to read that war invitation in my Kitten’s handwriting, she wrote it to me as an heir of Alpha Harrison.

“This is the last opportunity for you to surrender and accept your crime of murdering the late Alpha Harrison.

Otherwise, the werewolf race will kill their way to the Lycan’s Castle, and execute you publicly for this crime.

As your death is inevitable, it’s your chance to save countless lives. Perhaps heaven will forgive you for your sins.”

My body grew impossibly still, too overwhelmed to move or react. Kitten’s letter compromised the working of my excellent brain. I lost the ability to think straight.

Without listening to my point of view, Kitten came up with a conclusion that I was the killer, offering me to surrender for my non-existent crime. How could she do this to me?

I fell back, rocked by the sheer force of unexpected revelation, struggling to process this shock.

“Maddox, what’s wrong?” Beta James noticed my pale face and swiftly grabbed that letter. His face grew ashen as he screeched.

“What?

This is unacceptable, Maddox. Get up and talk to Her Highness. She is wrongly accusing you.”

I stared at him in a catatonic stupor for the moment my brain picked up its services again, and commanded coldly.

“It’s time to prepare for a battle, Beta James.”

…

“Why don’t you surrender as Kitten says?”

Zeth was growling nonstop, making my life hell. My head was about to explode due to unbearable noise as he shouted at the top of his lungs.

“Let’s go and beg for Kitten’s forgiveness. She will definitely listen to us.”

“Yes!”

I button my shirt, preparing for the final face off.

“And then she will do what her promise mate says.”

As I spoke bitterly, Zeth scolded me.

“Don’t speak bad for our Kitten. She in an angel. She loves us.”

Yeah!

And what a coincidence!

I was Lucifer Morningstar, straight from hell!

Kitten’s letter made it clear that we were past the stages of clarifications and apologies now, she had burnt all the ships to sail again!

Well, it wasn’t entirely her fault as I had also ignored the basic rules of mating, leaving that Bastard Prince alive was the most wrong act. I should have challenged him to a one-on-one fight, winning my Erasthai back fair and square.

Obviously, nature had set some rules for some reason, going against them cost me my relationship with my Erasthai.

I visited the borders and supervised the preparations personally, Hayden had already informed me about the location of the werewolf army.

Our friends were also taking part in the war, although I had asked them to go and help Kitten as she must be feeling lonely in her first war. But they wanted to be here and rescue her from the Bastard Prince through war.

As I instructed my army not to harm Kitten, Zeth made faces at my concern, he spat out.

“If you really care about our Erasthai, then leave the throne and be her servant for the rest of your life. We have already ruled over the world for so long.

The only thing I need now is a warm home with my Erasthai.”

Home?

Yes, that was what I wanted!

The main purpose of this war was to end the troubles for good, bringing Kitten back home. Every so often, we should use strict methods to teach your rivals a lesson.

That Bastard Prince had underestimated my powers, cunningly using my Erasthai against me. That bastard was nothing, but a shame to the Werewolves, and I was all set to reveal his true colors.

As it wasn’t mentioned in the letter that whether it would be a traditional fight or a general bloodshed, I led my army to face those werewolves.

Hopefully, Kitten was leading her army like me!

My heart did a somersault in my chest as I waited desperately to catch a glimpse of my beautiful Erasthai, looking at her pictures wasn’t enough for my yearning for her.

But to my dismay, Alpha Xavier and Alpha Bahamas were at front lead, pouring a bucket of cold water over my excitement. I bared my claws and stepped forward, inviting that Bastard Prince, who was hiding behind strong Alphas like a coward.

“Come out, Prince Edith, and fight with me. I am proposing a battle of fists as rivals in mating.”

My open challenge was responded to by Alpha Bahamas, he said,

“Our Prince isn’t free to contaminate his hands with your dirty blood.

Besides, we are enough to send you to hell, Alpha Maddox. You are dead!”

This sudden jump from ‘Your Majesty’ to ‘Alpha Maddox’ was impressive, fairly amusing. I couldn’t wait to see his headless corpse, so I ordered my army to charge.

“Attack!”

Commanding my warriors at the north border, I allotted East, West, and South borders to Beta James, Hayden, and my dad respectively. It was better than trusting my warriors for this significant responsibility.

Then I set Zeth free, promising him in return for a good killing.

“We are doing it for our Kitten, Zeth. If werewolves lose today, everything will be the same as the past.”

“On it!”

As a lycan, Zeth was thrilled to tear those wolves apart. Soon, the grim reapers started their duties of escorting souls as my claws moved with the lightning speed, ripping those wolves’ heads away.

The first one to die was Alpha Bahamas, the puny Alpha, who had dared to raise his voice in front of me.

“Good riddance!”

Zeth commented as our lycan warriors ambushed the werewolves, cutting them like vegetables with their claws. I was looking for my Kitten or Bastard Prince to put an end to this fruitless killing, it was getting boring.

Yep, killing was a good sport, beneficial for the brain and health of a lycan. But it wasn’t the time for entertainment, I only needed my Erasthai!

However, the deaths of front-line warriors brought the second group of werewolves for the battle, followed by a sudden change in the situation.

For some unknown reasons, these ordinary-looking wolves were faster with their deadly claws. I couldn’t believe my eyes when a wolf cut off my lycan’s head with one blow.

Gosh!

Bracing myself for a new strategy, I thoroughly observed and analyzed their formation while getting rid of the soldiers around me. It was difficult to track their movements due their pace and strength. I barked orders to be more alert and avoid their jaws, but in vain!

Those elite soldiers were expeditiously wiping out my warriors at the border.

Damn it!

The severity of the situation sank in as my heart trembled, flipping my insides. I felt myself trapped in the ocean of some unknown species of supernatural creatures as it occurred to me.

“God!

I am in trouble!”
