Chapter 134: Official introductions
Shyla’s P.O.V.
“Dad!”
I was lost in my thoughts, but Ash responded quickly, she recognized that man as our father. Alpha Harrison, the leader of the werewolf race was there to welcome me, his strong wolf’s call rippled through my bones.
He growled softly. “Come here, my pup. Your dad is waiting for you.”
As I was holding Marcel, I could easily understand the yearning of a parent. It was like a constant nagging pain in your chest which could only be relieved after seeing your child’s face. And in my case, we were separated for years, so the longing was beyond a person’s endurance level.
I hesitated a bit before walking towards that majestic figure who was standing tall in his Alpha glory. It was hard for me to believe that I was his daughter, as I didn’t inherit any of his signature qualities like good looks or dominating aura. Despite losing his throne, he was still an authoritative figure, the most prominent person in the lobby. Even if you chained him in the slave market, anyone would tell in a single glance that he wasn’t a slave.
Shit!
What was I even thinking about breeder camp?
Mrs. Lockwood held Marcel for me, so I could hug my father, but the random thoughts roaming in my head ruined this moment. It wasn’t like I was an ingrate; I was happy to see family, but my heart was devoid of my emotion. I was finding it hard to form an instant connection with my father.
Perhaps it was because of his long absence, where I assumed that my father was one of the male breeders who raped my mom daily. Or I never thought that one day, I would get a chance to see my dad who was unaware of my presence because of my mate.
On the other hand, Ash was on cloud nine as our Alpha father’s wolf was grooming her lovingly, snuggling her close to his heart. He was repeating these sentences.
“My pup!
My heir is here! The Moon Goddess has blessed me.”
Well, it was indeed the Moon Goddess’s blessing to give us a chance to meet, my dad was overjoyed as if he had won a lottery. I tried to feel his warmth and search for the filial piety in my heart, but it was almost impossible for me to accept this reality at once.
My mind drifted back towards the culprit of my disturbed emotional state, I sighed.
“Why didn’t you tell me this before, Maddox?
Look, now it’s difficult for me to reciprocate a doting man’s affection.”
My dad’s voice was laced with fatherly love as he caressed my back and spoke proudly.
“My princess has returned home. There will be ten-day celebrations in the pack.
I will distribute money and gifts among the poor people. You all are my guests for this event.”
I forced a pleasant smile and stood by his side while hearing this announcement, he converted the celebration into a grand festival for my welcome. Then he turned towards Marcel and stretched his hands.
“Oh, my Goddess!
Shyla, is he your son? Am I a grandpa now?”
His Alpha nose scented Marcel’s perfume and guessed his relationship with me. Prince Edith spoke immediately.
“Actually, I didn’t tell you this great news because of your heart problem, uncle. Your health could be affected by a series of shocks.”
Well, he was alright!
The surprise of having his daughter after years of losing everything was more than enough for a commoner to have a mini heart attack. And for a heart patient, it could be fatal to hear such news.
Prince Edith’s method worked perfectly, my dad was fine as he met us today. He picked up Marcel and kissed his forehead.
“That’s an Alpha wolf just like you, Shyla. My grandson has inherited our bloodline!”
My dad’s statement calmed me a bit, it was relaxing that my son wouldn’t be like his dad. A man like Alpha Raymond wasn’t a good husband and a father, so I didn’t want my Marcel to be a failure in any field of his life.
After formal introductions, I was escorted to a black Range Rover in a lane of identical cars. It dawned on me that the security staff had used several cars to avoid an attack.
The tainted glasses for protection, groups of guards, and all the precautionary measures were signs that the Werewolves were still living under the shadows of the war. They were expecting a bloodshed at any moment right now.
As my dad sat with me and Marcel in the car, I pretended to look outside to enjoy the scenery. He told me about the pack.
“We have the responsibility of fifty thousand werewolves, Shyla. Serving your pack as an Alpha is the duty you are chosen for.
You must put your pack first …”
He then showed me the welcome banners and the best wishes quotes on the way, all pack mates had painted the red town with glee. The happy men, women, and kids bowed to pay respect everywhere as if they were already waiting beside the road.
This enthusiasm and dedication of the people touched my heart!
We reached the magnificent building of the Palace, its white and gray color scheme gave it a cozy home look. It didn’t look like a King’s Palace, but a modern house equipped with the latest facilities. That was the first difference I noticed between the Lycans and the Werewolves.
Maddox had built a mini war camp, the guards, and the cameras with the outdated style structure really gave me the nineteenth century’s vibe at first.
But wait!
Why was I still thinking about that self-centered King?
That selfish man didn’t think once about me before deceiving me, and I wasn’t even paying attention at my father’s Palace because of him.
Ugh!
Stupid Shyla!
I smiled and thanked the army servants who pledged their loyalty to their Alpha King and greeted me happily, looking around for a room in this huge Palace.
After the melodrama in my life, I was hell tired, and Prince Edith didn’t let me sleep in the fight with his commentary. So, I just wanted a bed to crash and find solace in it.
However, it was my wishful thinking!
My hopes were officially discarded by my dad as he said,
“Come this way, Shyla!
Council members and Alphas are here for an official meeting.”
Fuck!
I didn’t even know the ‘O’ of the official matters of the Werewolves. And here my dad had gathered all the noticeable Alphas for a meeting. I wished the ground would swallow me up instead of facing those cunning politicians.
But it didn’t happen!
I was dragged to the conference Hall, where a room full of stern-faced Alphas observed me keenly as my dad introduced me.
“Gentlemen, meet my daughter, Shyla Harrison. She is my heir and a pure-blooded Fenrir Alpha.”
The piercing cold gazes of Alphas pierced my soul, it felt awkward to be the center of attraction. After all, I wasn’t a specimen for curious school kids where they were examining me for educational purposes.
Although I had decided to stay silent to keep up with the Alphas, Ash couldn’t sit still. She growled loudly.
“What are you looking at? Haven’t you seen a Fenrir wolf before?”
Her growl did the trick as all the Alphas knelt on the floor at once, baring their necks in submission. My dad’s booming laughter followed their greetings as he spoke.
“You have your mother’s temper, Shyla. I am happy to know that you are her shadow.”
I was all ears to know more about my mother, the woman who had taught me to stay strong at a young age. But he swiftly changed the topic and asked Alphas to rise.
“Your wolves have recognized their Alpha King, it’s sufficient proof that the Moon Goddess hasn’t abandoned us.
She has shown us hope in our tough time, approving our efforts to reclaim our throne.”
Prince Edith nodded and continued with dad’s statement.
“Princess Shyla was saddened to hear about her race’s sufferings.
That’s why she instantly left that cruel monster’s Castle and came here to be with us.
You must thank her for sacrificing her mate-bond with the Lycan King Maddox Miller and surrender before the Werewolves’ laws. She has decided to respect the tradition of promise mates to strengthen the rules of the Werewolves.
Am I right, Princess Shyla?”
All eyes were fixed on me, anticipating my positive response to validate Prince Edith’s claim. I got panicked and thought inwardly,
“Goddess, what should I do now?”
