Chapter 166: In the Eclipse Realm, Kael Discovers a Secret Sanctuary
With the broken parts of the Moonstone Blade strewn about him like the shattered pieces of a dream, Kael stood at the entrance to the Eclipse Realm. His inky shape was a continual reminder of the terrible power that now resided inside him, and the shadow that had accompanied him since the blade's reforging pulsed menacingly behind him. The air around him was heavy with the black energy he could almost taste on his tongue, and his pulse was racing. However, there was more, something more.
The bleak desolation he had anticipated was not the world in front of him. No, here was a secret haven in the center of the Eclipse Realm, a place that time itself had forgotten. In front of him, the countryside was illuminated by the strange, silvery light that only the Eclipse could provide. In contrast to the desolate areas he had envisioned, the terrain was lush and colorful. With their leaves glimmering with an unearthly radiance, giant trees with twisted, glowing roots spiraled toward the sky. An old temple's outline emerged in the distance, its shattered spires rising like mute guardians into the sky.
Kael's chest tightened with breath. He has already visited the Eclipse Realm and saw its twisted beauty and horrors. However, this location. This was not like the others. It felt like a memory, a place long lost to the ravages of time and war. It seemed like something the world was never intended to see again.
His voice almost heard above the wind whispering through the trees, he said, "The sanctuary."
He didn't intend to discover this location. Kael had been yearning for answers after the fight with the renegade hunters and the debilitating rush of darkness from the reforged Moonstone Blade. The force coursing through him, through them all, was too deadly to be disregarded. They would all be lost if he couldn't figure out how to manage it.
The beckoning of something ancient, something far older than any of them, had led him to follow the murmurs in the darkness. The possibility of unknown mysteries seemed to resonate in the very air around him.
As he moved ahead, Kael had a tingling sensation of electricity on his skin, as if the ground itself was alive and observing him. He could hear the distant trickle of water and the gentle rustle of leaves. He briefly pondered if he was entering a trap or whether the sanctuary was really an illusion created by the warped power of the Eclipse Realm. But there was no denying the pull, the feeling that something important, something strong, was waiting for him inside.
He arrived at the foot of the temple's stairs, which were made of old stone that had been neglected for generations but was still sturdy and seemed to have been waiting for him. After taking a deep breath, Kael started to climb, the forest's long, black shadows surrounding him as if they were moths around a fire.
He felt a sharp coldness as he ascended, a sensation that appeared to originate in the stones themselves. He hesitated, his gut telling him to go back. But he couldn’t. Not right now. Not with the solutions so close together.
Kael discovered a huge archway at the top of the stairs, its stone frame adorned with odd inscriptions and patterns that gave off a faint light when he touched it. The runes seemed alive, as if they were reacting to him. Breathing steadily, Kael entered the sanctuary's center via the arch.
Ancient magic permeated the air within. The enormous stone pedestal in the middle of the room caught Kael's attention, despite the space's size and shadowy ceiling. A huge, crystal-like object with an unearthly radiance pulsing across its surface settled upon it. The item shimmered in the faint light, a flawless spherical surrounded in delicate silver tendrils, its center filled with whirling mist. Its energy was calming and frightening at the same time.
Kael walked warily toward it, all of his nerves tense. This was the same energy that had beckoned to him in his Eclipse form, and he had felt it before, deep inside himself. But this was different. This wasn’t a force born of darkness or devastation. This was a more ancient, pure thing.
His fingers shook as they touched the cool crystal surface as he extended his hand. As soon as his skin touched, a wave of memories swept through him, images of old powers, vanished civilizations, and conflicts from long ago. He witnessed the powers that had attempted to control the Eclipse Blade, which had been reforged in a bygone era.
However, something darker, something far more sinister started to emerge within the images. The crystal started to buzz, flashing like a dying star as its energy became unstable. Instinctively, Kael withdrew his hand, but it was too late.
As the crystal pulsed with a dazzling light, the room shook and the earth underneath him shook fiercely. The force that had once beckoned to Kael started to awaken, and he stumbled back, his heart thumping in his chest. The sanctuary's walls crackled with unadulterated magic as if it were responding to the energy rush.
Abruptly, a deep, resonant voice, as if emanating from the Earth's core, echoed from the room's shadows.
"Kael, you shouldn't have come here."
Kael turned around, his hand immediately going for the hilt of his sword. A figure dressed in dark robes stood in the far corner of the room, lit only by the crystal's flickering light. The air surrounding them sparked with an unearthly force that Kael had sensed deep inside himself, even if the figure's face was hidden.
"Who are you?" Kael demanded, his voice firm despite the maelstrom of emotions boiling within him. "What is this location?"
The figure moved ahead with careful, fluid motions. The crystal's light created odd shadows on their face as they got closer to the pedestal. Their hand hovered just over the artifact's surface as they extended their reach.
The figure's voice seemed like a faraway echo as they said, "I am the guardian of this place." "And this is the core of the Eclipse Realm," they said, pointing to the crystal. The last piece of the original Eclipse Beast
Kael's blood froze. The original Eclipse Beast, the entity that had created the split between the realms and been the origin of all the darkness in the world. Though he had heard rumors about it, he had never taken it seriously.
The figure's voice became more emphatic as they went on, "The Eclipse Beast never truly died." It was confined solely. attached to this gemstone. But with the reforging of the Moonstone Blade, the balance has altered. Once again, the Beast's might has started to emerge. And it puts everything at danger.
Kael's thoughts were racing. He was struck with the awareness that everything he had wanted to prevent and everything he had dreaded was now happening. Nothing they have ever experienced could compare to the Eclipse Beast's might. And it was free now.
"You must depart," the apparition urged, their voice becoming urgent. "Prior to it being too late."
The crystal shattered with an ear-piercing shriek, releasing a stream of energy that sent Kael tumbling to the ground as the earth under him broke wide before he could react.
The sanctuary shook as a huge shadow emerged from the room's depths, its shape imposing and hideous, the darkness within whirling with the Eclipse Beast's unadulterated might.
With his body hurting and his senses overpowered by the approaching storm, Kael stumbled to his feet.
The stranger retreated into the darkness, whispering, "It's too late." "The Beast is at liberty."
With that, the chamber descended into anarchy, the sanctuary's last ruins collapsing as the Eclipse Realm's actual horror became apparent.
