Chapter 37
Micah POV
Apparently, kissing in front of your friends and those who you went to high school with is not enough to convince people anymore that you are in a relationship with your best friend.
Granted, it was me and Alyssa’s fault for always coming up with crazy schemes and being too close outside. It was annoying enough to Jake wanted Alyssa but it was nothing compare to the girls who me and Alyssa went to school with as they all, all of a sudden wanted to hang out with me. Alyssa was not a happy camper at the attention which they paid to me.
“You know that you look cute when you pout.” I teased Alyssa to get her mind off the fact that we were invited to go for a party tomorrow and in Jake's home, nevertheless.
“You know, you ought not to annoy me especially since I am in a bad mood.” Alyssa retorted as I sighed.
I let go of the trash bag in my hand as we were in the process of cleaning the lawn where the party was held. My free hands took hold of Alyssa’s own as she was busy using the stick in her hands to stab the hell out of an empty can of coke.
“Look at me.” I said to her with my tone soft and quiet while I waited for her to run out of steam, I never had to wait for too long.
With a heavy breathe she looked at me and she released the stick in her hands and let it fall to the ground. “Why are you upset?”
“Come one Micah, I am sure you already know that, cancer did not make you dumber.” Alyssa said as I smiled.
“You are right, I do know the reason why you are upset but my question is mainly, why are you upset when you know that their words never mattered before, why will it matter now?”
“Excuse me.” Alyssa blinked at me like she could not understand the reason why I was not seeing the reason for her anger. “I know that you have never had a steady girlfriend before but they literally did not take our relationship serious. There you were, kissing me for all of them to see and they still tucked their hair behind their ears while talking to you. Apparently, they see you and me together as the reason why you have gotten over the person who you wrote that letter for and now you are fair game. Also recovering from Cancer added brownie points because I swear I heard Tiffany sigh dreamily at you more than once and she was never interested in you before.”
And as Alyssa continue to rant, I stood with half a smile on my face, which was a wrong expression to have as she turned her glare on me when she saw the smile.
“Not funny.” She gritted out.
“It is funny, you never acted this jealous of Jake fans when you were with him.” I tell her, resisting the urge to kiss my new girlfriend, I pretty much would be asking for a serious kick in the ribs or something if I tried that now.
“And you are stating the past because…” Alyssa trailed off, expecting me to complete it and as usual, I complete.
“Because it proves how much you love me more than him and that is doing good things for my ego.” I replied.
Alyssa rolled her eyes at me. “It was not like you needed help with the ego before, it was already big enough, anyway. I would not put it pass them to try something at the party tomorrow.”
“Let them, it would be nice for me to disgrace someone, it has been a while.” I returned as Alyssa sighed then stepped into my arms fully and allowed me to hug her as tension dripped away from her shoulders.
“I keep thinking that you will leave me for someone else…”
“Don’t even count on it.” I snorted in reply. “I am not going anywhere, not even if you beat me off you with a stick.”
I could feel her smile from her face widening even if the said face was buried in my chest.
“I am happy that you are mine.” She whispered, her tone lower than usual.
“Guess what?” my voice matched hers, both in volume and in seriousness. She needs to understand that she is it for me.
I do not understand this girl, when she thought the letter was for someone else, she did not doubt the feeling I had for the person on the receiving end but when she had realized that it was for her, she has been going back and forth, needing reassurance from me that she is it. Not that I was complaining though, I would never get tired of saying it.
“You are it for me.”
Her head lifted from my shirt as she peered into my face, whatever she saw in my face. Which must have been the total adoration for her, because that was what my face has been displaying for some time now. It was enough to convince her I love her because she leaned up for a kiss and I obliged her.
The world shut down when our lips meshed together and I would not have cared if a meteor landed in the lawn where we were because all that mattered to me in my world was her and I wanted it to remain so.
When we separated to reluctantly to drag air into our starving lungs, it was to hear the obnoxious clapping of hands, I didn’t need to look to know it was Celine and Mike.
“Such a wonderful performance.” Mike started.
“Heartfelt even.” Celine added. “So emotional.” She pretended to wipe a teardrop from the corner of her eyes.
“Definitely worthy of an Oscar.” Mike continued.
Alyssa sighed as she rested her head back on my chest. “Can we give them up?’ She asked.
“For free even.” I added.
“Your faces were full of emotions but can you repeat what you two said to each other before the kissing started?” Celine asked.
“I don’t want to even know that, I just want them to promise that whenever they are here, they should not hog the couch in one of their kissing fest.” Mike shrugged as I narrowed my eyes at him.
“I will so hurt you.” I promised in a lethal tone and the boy must have sense of preservation because he recognized my dark look and screamed like the last born he was.
“Mommy!!!”
