Chapter 35
Micah POV
I can't believe that chemo was over within four months. I honestly thought it would take at least a year to get all the cancer out of my head but apparently, the cancer although I have been feeling those migraines for months, the cancer was still young and not too aggressive so they were able to fight it and most of it went with the surgery and although the chemo was not too bad, there were still days where I had no appetite and I kept vomiting everything that I forced myself to eat and sometimes I was so tired that I could hardly raise myself from the bed. Then my hair had to go. Alyssa was with me every step of the way even when I shouted at her and told her to leave me alone in my frequent burst of anger, she refused and stayed as close to me as possible. When I was too tired to do anything, she did everything for me including reading to my ears so that all I had to do was listen and when I lost my hair she told me that I looked very handsome without hair and then she threatened unless I want a bald girlfriend I shouldn't moan too much about the hair loss or she would scrape hers off so that we would carry matching haircuts like we did when younger. Sometimes she would be with boyish style and other times I would be with girlish hairstyle. Those days were fun for us but not so much for our parents. Now four months later, with little hair back and Alyssa by my side, I know that I have left the past behind and now moving on to new territories although I am scared about some things, for example, would we have chemistry or is our friendship which had celebrated its eleven years anniversary going to make that impossible for us. Would Alyssa still want me even after the many things I made her go through when she was by my side in the hospital, would I always be this insecure and....
Somebody just hit me on my head. “Ouch" I complained as I glared at Alyssa. “What is that for?”
“That is for you over thinking whatever it is that you are over thinking. What did I tell you about over thinking? “Alyssa said with her complete focus in the magazine before her as we wait for my parents to pick us up.
“That I should never do it since it always lead to me making bad decisions.” I grumbled.
“You remembered, now what were you over thinking. “She asked me still with the magazine in her front.
Gosh, since the chemo was mid-way I noticed that Alyssa mother instinct has come out and she has been using it on me. Right now I can't help but feel like a little boy being reprimanded by his mother for putting his hand in the cookie jar.
“I can't hear you.” Alyssa said as she speared me a look then continued with her browsing of the magazine.
“I am scared that you might not want me again based on the fact that you took care of me during chemo even when I was acting mean. I am not sure if because of our long friendship. We will still have chemistry left for a relationship, I am scared that you may see me now as a brother since you have been acting like my caregiver for a while now. And I don't know how to ask you out, and I need it to be original and perfect. I know right now all I am saying may seem like it is unimportant but it is to me. “I rambled like a scared little boy afraid about the future which I am, it doesn't matter if I am eighteen or not. I am still little when it comes to relationships.
I can't believe that I used to laugh at those guys in rom coms when they act like blabbering idiots, saying that no feeling will ever make me like that and that I would be confident when I confess to the girl I want and whatnot. Now I am even a bigger idiot than them, at least they were acting like it so there is an excuse for them but there is none for me because this isn't acting.
Her face went soft as she put down the magazine and turned to look at me. “Micah, I understood that it was the sickness talking and not you, that doesn't mean that I won't pay you back for it, I will but I understand. I don’t see you like my brother, I already see you as my best friend and although you might think that it means the same thing. It doesn't, I mean if you were my brother I would never have any feelings for you but since you are my best friend feelings can enter the equation even when it seems tacky... “She said with a shrug and I cracked a smile at that.
“You just asked me out although it must not always be the guy who ask the girl out but since you just did, my answer is yes. I would love to be your girlfriend. Micah Vegas, genius extraordinaire is acting nervous, there is nothing more real and original than that. As for the chemistry, let's find out. “She said as she leaves her lips with mine and for a few seconds, I was in heaven. I have kissed girls before but she is the only one I want to continue kissing for the rest of my life. She just proved that there is chemistry. I love her and I love the way we just clicked together, like two halves to a whole.
I had to drag my lips away from hers when we went out of air but to maintain contact with her, I joined my forehead with hers " I am don't think that PDA is allowed in the hospitals" she laughed at that.
“It is a good thing that we love breaking rules right. “She said with a smile that light up her eyes. The kind I always see her give to her exes but never directed in my direction. Now it is mine I will try my best to ensure that it will remain mine forever.
“I don't love breaking the rules.” I told her and her smile turned indulgent. “I just love you.” I told her
“I love you too. “She replied softly like she doesn't want to raise her voice to break the moment.
“Cute and all. But let's start going. “My father said from behind me. I quickly turned. “Dad, how long have you been standing there.”
“Since you were acting like a lovesick boy. Your brother will have a field day with this. “He said with a laughter as red stained Al cheeks.
“He can laugh all he wants. As long as I get the girl, he can tease me for as long as he likes. “I declared while Alyssa hugged me.
“Careful son, personality change requires therapy, don't change too much or your mother will take you to one “dad said with complete seriousness and I realized that he was right. Anything that happens to me now, my mother will keep a close watch on me. If I so much as sneeze, I am sure she will drag me to the hospital.
I thought that Alyssa was mothering me, now I will know the meaning of that word.
God save me.
